"Mr. Anders is one of the best teachers in this school. He is not only a great teacher, he is also a great friend to all of us."

"Mr. Anders has to be one of the all-around best teachers I have ever had. He helps the students grasp the whole concept of what he is teaching. And when the work is done, he talks sports and shoots the breeze with the class like it is no big deal."

"I love Mr. Anders, he's a really great teacher. He always cares for his students and has a great sense of humor, too. I just hope I'll have teachers like him in college."

This tradition, started many years ago, symbolizes the true meaning of the holiday season: selfless giving, honoring those closest to us, and celebrating the birth of the Christ Child.

Band Fest '06 started out on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd when Cadets Bunce , Danall , Jarkewicz J., Jarkewicz T., Krueger, Lassiter, Place and Ms. Lute set off on a minibus driven by Maj. Vaughn, to Waterloo Train Startion to catch the train that would take us to Vermont. After the Thirteen hour train ride we anivedin adinkytowri in upstate New York, where here was absolutely nothing to do for the five hour layover that we had there After that was done, we boarded the train that would take us to Rutland, Vennont and the rental cars that Mrs.

Held at Norwich University in Vermont

Jarkewicz and Mr. Kohlmeier would drive up to Montpelier and Norwich University.

The next day was the auditions that would decide what "seats" we would be. We spent many long hours learning bow to play The Gallant Sevent, Bravo!, A Trumpeters Lullaby, The Phantom of the Opera and America the Beautiful. On Saturday we went and watched as James Jarkewicz competed in the Drum Major Competition, before practicing one more time before the night was over Sunday, wetookagrouppicture , individual school pictures, and preformed the conceit During our freetime, we hung out with some of the kids form the other schools. Sunday night we ate at a nice pizza place and went to see the Pink Panther.

The Old Guard represents a long standing tradition at Howe Military School. In the pring of each school year, cadets and staff who have been a part of the Howe family for 4 years are selected as member of the "Old Guard." First Annual Awards for Student Progress

Aurarius is derived from the Greek word "aurum" which means go ld. Aurarius means "golden effort" or "pinnacle of effort."

The purpose of this award is to reward the students who have given 100% effort in thier classes in both academics and behavior, even though their efforts may not result in an A+. This award is given by the teachers at Howe Military School. By nominating students and giving the award we are saying that we appreciate and value a students' attempt to achieve and succeed.

At the end of each grading period, teach-

ers may nominate one student who they feel has given 100% effort, are tryng thier best, and are well beha ved which are all tools for success in school. The student must be on PAR and cannot be failing any classes.

Eve1y student nominated consistently raised thier grades, turned in homework on time, and displayed good behavior. Congrats to all cadets who were nominated for this award during the year!

Chandler Hendren received the Aurarius Award for the second grading period of the fall semester. Chandler is a first year Howe cadet and a senior!

78

Greg Sillmon received the award for the first six weeks of the second semester Greg began at Howe in January. This award got him off to a good start for the spring semester.

Lewis Jones recieved the award for his academic progress in the first grading period of the year. Mr. Grady presents him with a certificate and a sweet treat!

This year's play, The Mystery of Montley s Manor was as big success With the help of director Mrs. Grossman and her two assistants, Ms. Lute and Mrs. Douglass we were able to make this play great! The stage crew: James J arkewicz, Brooklynn McGuire, Vesta Hall, Jessica Redmer and Brandon Madden and a lot help from the Lower School boys made our play come together

The plot , based on a billionaire's sudden passing, made all those close to him show

thier true colors when they compete for the inheritance. With a mixture of humor and a moral lesson to be learned in the end, this play was a hit!

The long practices every night two weeks prior to cwtain call proved to have been worth it. There were some obstacles to overcome , such as the understudy having to step in the night of the perfonnance, but by the end ofthe night we proved our time and effort created a success!
