After study and research into the site, the interstate highway 15 was found to help create a divide between its two side. On the west side the area is in disrepair, near to industrial sites, and has little in place for pedestrian safety with trains and cars. While on the east it is in good repair, has easy accessibility to public transportation, and many more opportunities of activities. These condition only further separate the communities. As such the project works to provide means of interaction, so that all mental illusions about one another can be broken, to have a safe and healthy place to visit on the daily, and to have a versatile building and site that can adjust to the needs of future generations. Along with these goals the plan also follows AIA design principles, is net positive, and uses local materials.

Some Utah codes will need to change to accomplish theses, for example their position towards compost toilets and little code on rammed earth construction.

Entering the site, people find many places to enjoy. Anything from playgrounds, weekend farmers markets, and community or educational gardens. The community garden, is central to the idea of the project, giving opportunities of selfreliance and interaction. All produce gained from members or other gardens on site, picked by volunteers, are either shared with those in need or sold to help maintain the location. The building further supports these ideals. In the center corridor, visitors and members can find directions to the site and surrounding locations, accessibility to transportation, and community history. On the southwest, there are classrooms, a community cannery, and versatile spaces. The northeast side contains social service center, equipped with beds and showers, a volunteer center, and a day care. Each space is designed to create a closed loop for the community. Giving them a mentally and physically healthy environment that improves the quality of life for children and adults.

The Cecilia Water Filtration Retreat works to solve issues surrounding water in Mexican Hat Utah area. A deep map of the area was developed and showed that erosion was occurring from both natural and unnatural elements. The unnatural change is due to human interference, specifically western society. Native American have had some impact, but very little in comparison. The San Juan River runs between Navajo land and United States lands, Mexican Hat being on the north side or American side, it has become a strong example of what has happened. Because of Human impact today and in the last 200 years, it has become filled with sediments, oils, uranium runoff, waste, and much more. It has also become solely owned by Americans, leaving natives adjacent with no access. Seeing the need for clean water and rights to change, the mixture of a surface water filtration plant and an academic retreat, geared towards students of primary and secondary schools, was formed

Coming from the parking lot you descend to the entry, that has a 15 ceiling, where at the office a worker will lead visitors up to the living areas or down to the water filtration plant. In this area of transition, people will pass a rain collection system that uses thin metal cords to help collected water descend form the roof down to collection pools below. By going up, students find living areas and bedrooms for their stay that, works to connect them to the outside through views framed by windows or smooth transitions between the inside and out. Going down, they discover an open room with the piping and pumps on the ceiling and the data computer, tanks, and classrooms on the ground.

This makes it so the systems can always be seen and understood. The whole building is to educate future generations and provide clean water to the local native town Hatchite, hoping the change the word for the better.

LIAM NATURE EDUCATION CHARTER ACADEMIC | SPRING 2021 | PROFESSOR MIRI LOCKER Location | 6831 S. Big Cottonwood Canyon Rd, Salt Lake City, UT Project | Nature education center Software Used | Hand sketching, Photoshop, Illustrator, & Rhino Materials | Steel, local rocks, & concrete The Liam Nature Education Center is built for everyone to find a new world to explore and learn. The building accomplishes this with views, angles, and vegetation found on the site.

Together they draw in, transition, connect, guide, and envelope the user with nature on and around the area. To help emphasize this, the building uses primary and secondary stereotomic walls. The two primary one’s direct users through the structure while at the same time separating and attaching the site to and from the world around it.

The secondary walls frame the desired views, the sky, Cotton Wood Canyon, and the river. The horizontal pieces on the edifice help further connect to the site by giving the feeling of extension out from inside. The floor primarily accomplishes this by continuing outside as one piece helping to for figurative and literal bridges between public and private, nature and structural. These connections create a collaborative and adventurous public and private education that’s teaching thrives with the young and old.

JOHNSON HOME PROFESSIONAL | SPRING 2017 Project | Residential home Software Used | AutoCAD Materials | Wood frame construction Involvement | Lead designer & drafter Location | Syracuse, UT The Johnson home was the first solo design worked on, and it gave insight into the importance of intentional design to best suit clients and site environment. The original home on site was family-owned for generations and had plans for an addition but due to the foundation issues a completely new structure was needed. Even so, the layout of the building was used as the main floor plan guide, shaping a long

Rectangular structure with a circulation path down the centre connection everything together. The families southern history tied into the building by capturing southern hospitality and allowing for large gatherings, which brought out an open layout, large brick porch, and a plethora of windows to create a welcoming feeling.

RE/MAX FITOUT PROFESSIONAL | SPRING 2021 Project | Commercial Office fit out Software Used | AutoCAD & Revit Materials | Metal stud construction Involvement | Lead designer & drafter Location | Farmington , UT The Re/Max job provided an opportunity to learn about many of the rules a regulation required for commercial work. During its design, a program of providing space for both visitors and works was give. The front area of the store, being the main entrance for all, became the largest focus.

Its centered itself on the customers connection to visit, while retaining the privacy of workers in the rear of the office. This was done by giving glimpses deeper in the structure but never revealing what was completely there.

FARM HOUSE PROFESSIONAL | FALL 2020 Project | Residential home Software Used | AutoCAD & Revit Materials | Wood frame construction Involvement | Lead designer & drafter Location | Layton, UT The farm house provides a space for residence to relax and rest. It works with the basic layout of a past project and applies the needs of the clients.

Being of retirement age, their main focus was create privacy and provided family opportunities. This was done by separating family and personal spaces.

All bedrooms maintained a hall space in front of them to keep a sense of privacy, causing for large gathering space to not interfere with desired comfort. The exterior style was chosen by the clients due to the feeling of home it provided them.
