Judge Sheri Y. Dean, Presiding Judge for the 309th Family District Court is Asking for Your Vote

According to her website, Judge Dean has been married to her high school sweetheart, Lance, for 43 years and has three wonderful sons and two lovely daughter-in-laws who have given her five adorable grandchildren.

Determination

Judge Dean earned her Business Administration Degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. Following college, she worked many years with the family business until, at the age of 34, she decided to follow her dream to become an attorney. With her children, ages 8, 7 and 4 years old, Judge Dean took the leap and left her home in Tyler, Texas to begin law school in Houston.

While working and taking care of her family, Judge Dean graduated in two and a half years from South Texas College of Law. After graduating she began her own law firm and practiced family law in all nine family law courts in Harris County for 18 years.

Judge Dean was appointed by the Governor of Texas in 2010 to serve as the Judge for the

309th Family Court. Shorty after her appointment, she was then elected and continues to serves as your Judge of the 309th Family Court. Judge Dean wants to continue the work she has started. Since she began her tenure, Judge Dean has worked full time to clear backlogged cases, while making sure that litigants get their day in court and are heard.

Judge Dean is known as a tough, but fair judge, who waits to decide a case once she has heard all the facts and circumstances, before making timely decisions based on the law and Constitution. She also is a member of the Jury Committee that streamlined the process to save thousands of dollars for Harris County citizens.

Today, Judge Dean is well known in Harris County for her hard work and active participation in the community. Judge Dean’s record and participation reflects her loyalty, commitment and respect as a Judge and community leader. She has expanded her efforts as an elected official and public servant to reach out into the community on several projects, encouraging children and families to seek education and unity, increasing opportunities for families.

Judge Dean has worked to be a part of the solution for others in need. After her appointment, she was then elected and continues to serve as your Judge of the 309th Family Court. Nope, you won’t see this type of story headlining your local news. People working together across party lines for a common good is almost becoming a thing of the past. Or is it? Could it be that there are good things happening all around us; but they are just not being reported? Could it be that there are “GOOD SAMARITANS” going about the business of doing their good deeds whether the bright-lights of the news media are shining upon their acts of kindness or not?

GOOD SAMARITANS IN ACTION

We at Houston Business Connections Newspaper© would love to cover more stories about people working together for the common good of us all. Like them, and their political activities or not, Phillip Paul Bryant and his brother Prince Bryant should be commended for a job well done recently at their “9th Annual Backpacks to the 5th Ward” giveaway. “My daughter and I (along with several fellow Republican colleagues and other candidates) spent most of the day at the Island of Hope Church of God in Christ at the 9th Annual Backpacks to the 5th Ward,” says Judge John Schmude, the presiding judge of the 247th Family District Court in Harris County, Texas. “It was an honor to be given the opportunity to speak to the parents and the kids,” says Judge Schmude. “I want to personally thank Phillip Paul Bryant for organizing this outstanding event and for giving us an opportunity to serve those who are in need in our community.”

JUDGE SCHMUDE IS RIGHT

I concur with Judge Schmude, as we put politics aside for a moment, Phillip Paul Bryant, and his brother Prince Bryant are indeed worthy of recognition for the good deed they've just performed. And to this end, I consider both these guys, along with all the fine folks who made this event a success “GOOD SAMARITANS�. And, I would also like to take this moment to implore every warm-blooded American to come to the realization that there are good, honorable, Godfearing people on both sides of the aisle.

WHAT IS A GOOD SAMARITAN?

Are you wondering what it means to be a good Samaritan? If so, here's the best definition I could find. In case you're wondering, I found "The Parable of the Good Samaritan" in the book of

Luke, Chapter 10, in verses 25 through 37 in the New International Version of the Bible.

LUKE 25: On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

LUKE 26: “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

LUKE 27: He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]” LUKE 28: “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

LUKE 29: But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

LUKE 30: In reply, Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

LUKE 36: “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

LUKE 37: The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

case you don’t know, Republicans hold every statewide elected office and majorities in the state senate, state house and on the state board of education. And they also hold majorities in 107 Texas counties that contain nearly two-thirds of the state’s population.

But on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, the day when Democratic hopefuls and Republican hopefuls are set to face off, nothing should be taken for granted.

EARLY VOTING PERIOD:

The early voting period will begin on Monday, October 22, 2018, and end on Friday, November 2, 2018 in the State of Texas.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR VOTING RIGHTS?

As a registered voter in Texas, you have the right to: A ballot with written instructions on how to cast a ballot.

Ask the polling place official for instructions on how to cast a ballot (but not suggestions on how to vote).

Cast your vote in secret and free from intimidation.

Receive up to two more ballots if you make a mistake while marking the ballot.

Bring an interpreter to assist you as you qualify to vote if you do not understand the English language.

Help to cast your ballot if you cannot write, see the ballot, or understand the language in which it is written.

Report a possible voting rights abuse to the Secretary of State (1.800.252.8683) or to your local election official.

Cast a provisional ballot if your name does not appear on the list of registered voters.

(1) Cast a provisional ballot (a) if you do not possess one of the seven (7) acceptable forms of photo identification, which, if you are under 70, is not expired for more than four years, and you can reasonably obtain one of these forms of identification or (b) if you possess, but did not bring to the polling place, one of the seven forms of acceptable photo identification, which, if you are under 70, is not expired for more than four years, or (c) if you do not possess one of the seven forms of acceptable photo identification, which, if you are under 70, is not expired for more than four years, you could otherwise not reasonably obtain one, but you did not bring a supporting form of identification to the polling place, and (2) the right to present one of the acceptable forms of photo identification, which, if you are under 70, is not expired for more than four years, or, if you do not possess and cannot reasonably obtain an acceptable form of photo identification, the right to execute a reasonable impediment declaration and present one of the supporting forms of identification, to the county voter registrar’s office, within six (6) calendar days after election day, or, if applicable, qualify for a temporary (natural disaster or religious objection to being photographed) or permanent (disability) exemption, within six (6) calendar days of election day, at the county voter registrar’s office.

Vote once at any early voting location during the early voting period within the territory conducting the election.

File an administrative complaint with the Secretary of State concerning violations of federal and state voting procedures.
