Carmen Maria Montiel is a candidate for the 18th Congressional District that includes heritage Freedman’s Town/Fourth Ward in Houston, Texas Mon tiel says she’s in the race to win for the people because there has not been any good representation since the present opposing candidate took office in 1995

When asking younger voters about voting, most said they no longer partake in voting because of no representation of the people and the overwhelming criminal activity ongoing in elected office “They push voting but not our community issues,” said one young woman But Montiel is from a family of hard times and wants to see improvement for all the people in her district

Accountability is absent in the Moorish American communities in Houston, Texas Take any elected office locally, state and federal and there is no corrective action in resolving disparities of all sorts burdening these areas How interesting that all those elected officials/employees push the same deadbeat agenda of vot ing as if it is the answer all to the blatant community, economic and social devel opment issues Unfortunately, Moors merely allow those who are in office to harm them, stay in office, and in some instances, be elected to another office Town hall meetings seldom occur but when they do, they are insulting and treat voters in at tendance as if they are children by having them complete a card instead of giving the live mic to pose their concerns There are some voters who feel skipping over a deadbeat politician’s name on the ballot and not voting at all, but that blank vote favors the incumbent and keeps him/her in office Make your vote count and fire those elected employees who have failed you

POL AD PAID FOR BY ALEX MEALER FOR JUDGE

I looked to my grandfathers for mentor ship while growing up From an early age, I was inspired by their stories of service and leadership in the defense of our freedom My maternal grandfather was the first in his family to graduate high school and through his career of service in the U S Navy, also became the first in his family to graduate college My paternal grandfather was forced to flee Spain
The protection of our freedoms has been a theme throughout my life, one that my entire family has shared They’re too important to sit idly by hoping that someone else will protect them and that’s especially true in Harris County, where our way of life has been under attack I’m running for Harris County Judge to restore our way of life
as a political refugee He ultimately gained his U S citizenship through service in the U S Army
Following in my family’s tradition, I decided to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point following the 9/11 Attacks Upon graduation, I served in the Army bomb squad Through my ex perience leading soldiers in combat, I demon strated the skills necessary to lead during times of crisis and that has prepared me to lead the county

After witnessing first hand how too many judges were closed minded and prejudiced towards some defen dants and attorneys, but afforded others with whom they were socially or financially in line with better opportunities and common courtesies, as well as "the benefit of the doubt," Judge Jones ran for office and won in November of 2018; making him the first minority to preside over the

As Americans, we so often take for granted the blan ket of freedom our Constitution and nation’s military pro vides But we can always be reminded when we look to our nation s veterans to share stories of the sacrifices they ve endured and made to defend our freedom
I hope the millions of Americans celebrating July 4th this weekend will reflect on and honor the sacrifices our mili tary men and women have made so that we have something to celebrate on July 4th; and I hope they express pride to be living in the most free and prosperous country on Earth a country which protects our endowed freedoms and liberties from those who would do it harm
