SMALL GROUP WILDLIFE TOURS South Africa > Botswana > Namibia > Zimbabwe > Zambia > Malawi > Mozambique > Eswatini

Dear Traveller Welcome to Sunway Safaris. Thank you for considering Sunway for your travels to Africa. We started Sunway in 1994, the same year in which South Africa held its first democratic elections. Since the doors to Southern Africa were re-opened we’ve grown, through experience and passion, to be one of the leading small group adventure travel companies in Southern Africa. Today we run more than 300 safaris each year, on 30 different routes, in 10 countries. We have a fleet of custom built safari trucks and 4x4s, offices in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, and are a dynamic, growing company with over 100 employees, all as enthusiastic and passionate about Africa as we are. We operate small group, set departure date tours, for the adventurous and young at heart, specialising in wildlife safaris throughout Southern Africa, with a focus on national parks and natural wilderness areas. We strive to offer outstanding travel experiences, adventure, incredible wildlife, scenic beauty and cultural interaction. Our itineraries have been perfected over 29 years of touring Southern Africa. We want you to experience Africa, be active and involved, secure in the knowledge that you’re travelling with the experts, in an environmentally responsible way. We include several easy to moderate walks, mokoro and canoe trails, boat excursions, dhow sailing, game drives, swimming and snorkelling and other activities throughout the various tours. Sunway provides you with a unique experience whether you are a first time traveller or veteran explorer. The Sunway team looks forward to welcoming you to Africa and making your holiday one that you will talk about for years to come. Co-founders Bruce Taylor and Shaun Waring-Jones

We understand that there are several options available to you when choosing your African safari. We also know that you want to make the most informed decision about your safari, what you get, what’s included and what you see and experience. So these are just a few of the Sunway qualities and facts: Small groups – by travelling with a maximum of 12 people, you are able to witness Africa and have first hand contact with this amazing continent and its people without being a negative influence. This has been a key factor in our continued success. Our trips appeal to a wide demographic of traveller. Our clients range in age from 25 to 65+ with the average being 45. The range of travellers gives a variety of perspectives which adds to the experience of each safari. 2 Sunway tour guides – group leaders are the key to any safari. On a Sunway safari you will travel with 2 qualified and registered field guides (Field Guides Association of SA). Two guides as crew, not a guide and a driver, means interesting trips with maximum knowledge and information. Our guides have a passion for Africa, her people and her wildlife, and they love nothing more than sharing their knowledge with you. Guaranteed departures – departure dates on each itinerary shown as bold are guaranteed departure dates. All other departures operate with a minimum of 4 clients. All inclusive price – when we travel ourselves, we always feel that if we’re in a country we should find and see the best it has to offer. So when planning the Sunway routes we ensure that each trip provides the best inclusions and experiences. For example, if you go to Botswana – you have to visit the national parks in an open 4WD – it is the essence of the Botswana wilderness. If you tour Zambia, then you must visit South Luangwa NP and do a game walk with a local scout. When booking on a Sunway safari there are no hidden costs. All of the entrance fees are included, and a wide range of activities, and most meals. We have included many highlights in our tours, so that you will see and experience the highlights without having to pay extra when you get there. So when you decide on which safari company to book with, look carefully at what you’re actually getting. You may only visit a place once, make sure you get the most out of it.

We know that a Sunway traveller is someone who wants to have a meaningful travel experience and is conscious of the impact that their travel might have on the places they visit. In this world of flight shaming, plastic pollution and over tourism we know that our potential clients are looking carefully at the different aspects of their holiday. Sunway clients have an interest in conservation and in supporting local communities.

Good 2Go Many of the people that we employ, both directly and indirectly, are the sole breadwinners in their families – your visit supports rural communities. We firmly believe that sustainable utilisation is the only viable conservation approach in Africa, and our small group style of travel is the ideal driver for long term conservation in Southern Africa. By travelling with Sunway you are supporting our Good2Go campaign.

Our Good2Go campaign highlights some of the background information to the lodges we stay at on tour. More about our Good2Go campaign is highlighted on each detailed itinerary which can be downloaded from our website. When you book a Sunway trip, you know that the money you spend is going into the local economy and supports various conservation initiatives. This we believe is the key to the fundamental benefit of tourism.

Based in Africa - probably the most important part of a Sunway safari is that we are an African company with offices in South Africa and Botswana. We live in Africa, we travel in Africa and it is our passion for this amazing continent that makes Sunway your best travel option. Age Policy - On all scheduled tours, we accept children 12-17 with accompanying adult. We have no upper age limit. Clients older than 65 years of age at time of travel require a medical certificate stating client is fit and healthy to join an adventure travel group tour. We have many clients over 65 years of age, who are perfectly capable of enjoying every aspect of a Sunway tour, both accommodated and camping. For more details contact newzealand@sunway-safaris.com

Using comfortable, simple and well located accommodation, our small group safaris offer fantastic value for money combined with Sunway Safaris quality service.

COMFORT - indicates en-suite rooms in a lodge or guest house. RUSTIC - indicates where rooms either share a bathroom, or where the accommodation available is more basic.

Accommodated Adventures are based on our proven small group adventure safaris concept, you will overnight in guest houses, chalets, lodges or permanent tented camps. The accommodation we use is generally graded 2 to 3 star and is comfortable, clean and friendly and is booked on a twin share basis. The majority of rooms have en-suite bathrooms and very occasionally they will have shared ablutions. All linen and bedding is provided. Details of accommodation for each night are available on each detailed itinerary, or on our website www.sunway-safaris.com

Most meals will be prepared by the Sunway guides, from the truck. Evening meals we eat around a camp fire or in a boma and you will have roadside picnic style lunches on travelling days. Depending on the itinerary a selection of dinners and breakfasts will be catered in-house by certain lodges.

On certain of the itineraries we visit the Okavango Delta with 2 nights at a mobile tented camp. Each dome tent has twin camp beds with linen and en-suite chemical toilet. Shared bucket shower tent with hot water off the fire.

With professional Sunway guides to lead our safari and a comfortable bed to sleep in every night you are assured of a fantastic holiday. You will not find a better value for money safari.

UNDER CANVAS CAMPING Camping in the wilds of Africa is the way to go – it’s an awesome experience to lie in your tent at night listening to the roar of lions or the haunting cry of a jackal! On safari you stay in designated camping sites in national parks, private reserves, private campsites and towns. Facilities are good with hot showers, electricity, clothes washing facilities and generally a bar and restaurant available. Some camps further north can be basic and have limited facilities and simple reed enclosures for showers but do have flush toilets! In the Botswana national parks we generally use private wild campsites. On wild camping nights there are no facilities. The Sunway team will erect a bucket shower, with warm water from the fire, and a pit toilet tent. Wild camping is a true wilderness experience and we keep our impact on the environment to a minimum, taking out everything we take in.

Sunway supplies all the camping equipment with the exception of your sleeping bag and pillow (available for rent). The canvas dome tents we use are large (2.2 x 2.2 x 1.8 metre), with built-in insect nets. Putting them up or down takes only 5 minutes. We supply 5 cm thick mattresses, which are warm and comfortable. The camp chairs have a backrest and all cooking and eating utensils will also be provided. Food is kept in sealed containers and cooler boxes or freezers ensuring fresh and hygienic food preparation. It’s not all camping! On most safaris there will be a number of lodge or guest house accommodation nights. The facilities will be modest but clean and comfortable. Generally you will have an en-suite twin room. Most meals will be prepared by the Sunway guides, evening meals we eat around a camp fire or in a boma and you will have roadside picnic style lunches on travelling days.

You travel with an experienced Sunway guide, and a maximum of 8 clients, in a 4WD vehicle, to explore these remote places.

The journeys we offer are vehicle based and you’re going to spend time on the road exploring Southern Africa. It’s therefore important that our vehicles our built for purpose.

Sprinters Our Sprinter buses have been modified to suit the Sunway safari requirements. They have individual high back seats with lap belts and large sliding windows for each row. They have large off road tyres which give better ground clearance for gravel roads. Comfortable cruising speed and air conditioning mean that they are ideally suited to tours where we use local open 4WDs for activities, or where the focus of the safari is walking or activity based. A safari by Sprinter essentially means you have the convenience of comfortable long distance cruising combined with the advantage of local vehicles for activities. Guides Tour guides are essential to any tour and Sunway proudly operates with two qualified and registered field guides on all tours. Two guides (not drivers/crew/cooks) ensure you are being looked after by tour leaders with years of experience and that there is a comprehensive knowledge base from which you get the most out of your tour. Not only are all of our guides qualified professionals but they also go through rigorous and continuous in-house training at Sunway Safaris to ensure that a high standard of guide is guaranteed. Excursions As part of our small group ethos, where ever possible we keep our groups seperate, including cruises on our own private boat or an open 4WD vehicle with only our group.

RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL

Good 2Go

Sunway is acutely aware of the need to reduce impact on the environment and encourage sustainable tourism through the protection of ecosystems and communities of Southern Africa. Sunway’s environmental policy applies to everyone travelling with us and allows us to experience the lands we are visiting but also have a positive influence on the communities and ultimately the natural environment. Our tour leaders will help you with the implementation of these policies, many of which will seem like common sense. All of our tours feature at least one visit to a local community project such as: village visits, animal rehab projects, or employment of local guides. As a Sunway traveller it gives you the chance to meet local people and see how tourism is benefiting Africa. Tourism, goodwill and conservation all work together and Sunway aims to provide the delicate balance at all times! Visit our Responsible Travel page on our website for more detailed information. SOS - Save our Sausage Trees Project - Okavango Traditionally local communities in Botswana’s Okavango Delta use the wood of the Sausage Tree (Kigelia Africana) to craft their mekoro. The demand for wooden mekoro is unsustainable, and sadly these trees are disappearing from the region. In response we established the SOS trees project to assist local community polers to buy replica fiberglass mekoro, which have a longer lifespan, and are produced without negative effect on the environment. A collection box will be made available after your Okavango excursion and any donations go directly to the purchase of fibreglass mekoro. Since 2011 Sunway clients have assisted 70 polers to buy mekoro.

SOS

SOS Educating our Youth - Johannesburg Each year we run a number of safaris to the national parks of South Africa for underprivileged children. Our aim is to raise the young adult’s awareness and basic understanding and respect for the natural environment. We also want to show them prospects for their future employment in conservation or the tourism industry. We work with the PEN Organisation. www.pen.org.za PEN dreams of igniting change, healing communities and nurturing togetherness. Their work covers education and access to technology, health and emotional well being, community support and citizens rights; enterprise coaching and skills development. Msinene Nature Reserve – KwaZulu Natal The Msinene Nature Reserve is located in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Over the last 7 years we have bought pieces of cattle farm land and removed fencing from within the area. We have re-introduced impala, zebra and giraffe and our active anti-poaching team protect the conservation of this beautiful environment. We are currently in the process of declaring the nature reserve under the Biodiversity Stewardship program of the Departmentof Environment. A number of Sunway’s itineraries stay at Zululand Lodge and your patronage helps to fund conservation in the area.

Full participation: There is nothing like getting involved in the action! Our expeditions are hands on and your participation will help to make them a success. Part of a Sunway trip is getting involved in general camp duties, it’s all part of your adventure. The guides will provide assistance, but an essential part of your safari is participation – from putting up your tent (on camping safaris) or packing away in the morning, to helping with meal preparation, such as chopping tomatoes for the salad or stirring a pot. The group will help do dishes on a rotation basis – when everyone puts in a little effort the trip will run smoothly.

2023 DEPARTURES Day 1 MAUN [lodge - - -] (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner) You will join up with your group at the lodge in Maun at +/- 17:00pm. (Arrival airport transfers can be booked). Since Maun’s founding in 1915 as the capital of the Batswana people, it has had a reputation as a hard-living “Wild West” town helping the local cattle ranching and safari operations. The name Maun is derived from the San word ‘maung’, which translates as ‘the place of short reeds’.

Botswana is considered Southern Africa’s premier game viewing destination. Get the best wilderness experience in Southern Africa by bush walk, game drive – and even by dug-out canoe. Cruise past hippos in the Okavango Delta and watch thirsty elephants at the river in Chobe National Park. End with a very grand finale: Victoria Falls. The BTa14 Johannesburg start saves you the cost of flights to Maun, and includes an opportunity to see rhino. The BTa13 Maun start clients join the BTa14 group in Maun on day 2 eliminating the drive Jo’burg to Maun. See page 12. Overnight a total of all 12 nights accommodation in lodges, chalets and tented lodges. 10 nights on safari we stay at small and intimate lodges, with en suite facilities. 2 nights tented camp in the Okavango. Each tent has twin camp beds with linen and an en suite chemical toilet. Shared bucket shower tent with hot water off the fire. Meals 12 breakfasts, 9 lunches and 5 dinners are included. Of which 7 breakfasts, 3 lunches & 3 dinners are provided by the lodges. The remaining included meals are provided by the Sunway crew, prepared at the vehicle and eaten around the camp fire. Transport for the majority of this safari you travel in a custom-built Sunway Safari truck with 12 forward facing seats; or (on 10% of tours) Mercedes Sprinter minibus with 12 forward facing seats and air conditioning. For the game drives in Moremi and Chobe and the transfer into the Okavango we use open sided 4WD vehicles with local guides. Limited participation An essential part of your safari is some participation. From carrying your own bag to cleaning your window and packing the truck in the morning – it’s all part of your adventure and when everyone puts in a little effort the trip will run smoothly. Overnight 11 nights on safari we stay at small lodges and guest houses with en suite facilities. 1 night in the Cederberg in chalets where two bedrooms share a bathroom. Details of accommodation on www.sunway-safaris.com in the downloadable detailed tour itinerary. Meals 12 breakfasts, 10 lunches and 8 dinners are included. Of which 4 breakfasts are provided by the lodges. The remaining included meals are provided by the Sunway crew, prepared at the vehicle and eaten around the campfire or in a boma or dining area. Transport for the majority of this safari you travel in custom-built Sunway Safari trucks with 12 forward facing seats. There are some long stretches of gravel road in Namibia, but they are generally well maintained and cruising speed is good. Limited participation An essential part of your safari is some participation. From carrying your own bag to packing the truck in the morning – it’s all part of your adventure. There are some long days with early starts so we all need to get involved to make the trip run efficiently. Where the tour leaders provide meals we ask that clients help (on rotation) with the washing up.

Day 2 CEDERBERG [chalet BLD] (B=breakfast, L=lunch D=dinner) The Cederberg is a massive rock wilderness with giant sandstone boulders that have been sculpted by wind and rain into bizarre and artistic shapes. We head north to the Cederberg and explore the rugged landscape on foot before relaxing in chalets for the evening. Day 3 GARIEP RIVER [lodge BLD] We make our way into the more arid regions and upon entering Namibia, we stay at a lodge on the Gariep River. Namibia’s southern border river flows quietly and peacefully and the river valley is hardly affected by tourism. The riverbed is sandy, the water clean and clear. Time free for swimming and relaxing or you can venture down the river in canoes (own expense). Day 4 FISH RIVER CANYON [lodge BLD] The Fish River Canyon, situated along the lower reaches of the Fish River, is one of the most impressive natural beauties in the southern part of Namibia. With its depth of up to 550 metres, the Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. We make our way to the canyon in the afternoon to watch the sun slip over the canyon’s rim. Day 5 - 6 NAMIB DESERT [lodge BLD] The parched Namib Desert has endless orange dunes blown into sharp ridges by the sand-shifting wind and at Sossusvlei they form a gateway

into the Namib Desert. We will walk to Sossusvlei, explore Sesriem Canyon and from the comfort of our lodge outside the national park watch a dramatic sunset over the world’s highest sand dunes. (If you prefer not to do the 4km walk to Sossusvlei there is an optional own expense 4WD transfer).

German colonial era. The charm of the city of Windhoek lies in its harmonious blend of African and European cultures and the friendliness of its people. We visit the cosmopolitan capital and enjoy a restaurant meal (own expense). Day 13 WINDHOEK - TOUR ENDS [- B - -] Tour ends at +/- 08:00am after breakfast at the guest house.

Day 7 - 8 SWAKOPMUND [guest house Bx2 Lx1-] Swakopmund is a popular seaside resort with a slightly nostalgic atmosphere, characterized by numerous colonial buildings. In terms of flora, both the Welwitschia Mirabilis and the Kokerboom grow on the stony plains of the Namib and many beautiful specimens surround this coastal town. Swakopmund is also the adventure activity capital of Namibia. Day free to explore the town or try dune boarding (own expense).

* Bold dates are guaranteed departures, all other dates guaranteed from 4 clients.

Day 9 DAMARALAND [chalet BLD] Namibia is a land of great contrasts and Damaraland demonstrates this with stark plains, petrified forests and ancient valleys leading to rocky outcrops and the soaring peaks of the Brandberg Massif Mountains. Day 10 - 11 ETOSHA NP [guest lodge BLD] Once a vast lake fed by the Kunene River, the pan that is Etosha NP dried up thousands of years ago when the river waters chose a new course. Etosha is big game country. We take game drives around the huge pan to find the elephants, herds of antelope and lions around the waterholes. We stay at a lodge on the outskirts of the national park.

Tour code: ZMa16 Guaranteed departures* Small group safari maximum: 12 travellers Travel through: Zambia & Malawi Safari length: 16 days

SAFARI GRADE: ACCOMMODATED An exciting safari experience exploring the diversity of the lesser travelled South Eastern African countries. This tour is not for the faint hearted, and requires some patience; the travelling can be slow, some nights the accommodation is basic, however the journey offers amazing scenery and fantastic highlights, well worth the long travel days. We recommend malaria prophylactics. A safari for travellers with a sense of adventure. Overnight 14 nights on safari we stay at chalets, tented lodges and guest houses, with en suite facilities. On Mumbo Island 1 of the tented rooms share a bathroom - rooms will be allocated by guides. 1 nights camping (Sunway will provide tents, mats and chairs, but you will need to bring your own sleeping bag). Of which 1 night we “camp wild” without fences in the wilderness on an island in the Zambezi.

Transport Due to the sometimes demanding road conditions you travel in a Sunway safari truck with 12 seats or landcruiser station wagon. Potholes, speed bumps(!) & rain damaged gravel roads are characteristic of the areas we travel through and can make driving slow and bouncy. However, we pass through road side villages and thus have opportunity to witness the local lifestyle. For the game drives in South Luangwa we use open sided 4WD vehicles with local guides. Limited participation An essential part of your safari is some participation. From carrying your own bag to cleaning your window and packing the truck in the morning – it’s all part of your adventure. For the longer days if everyone puts in a little effort the trip will run smoothly. Where the tour leaders provide meals we ask that clients help (on rotation) with washing up.

Lake Malawi

Day 1 LUSAKA [lodge - - -] The group will meet in Lusaka, in Zambia, at 16:00 at the lodge. This evening, after the tour briefing, we have a group dinner at the lodge (own expense). Day 2 KAFUE RIVER [lodge BL-] (B= breakfast, L= lunch, D= dinner) We drive across the rolling Miombo forested hills of southern Zambia and down into the Zambezi Valley lowlands and our lodge on the banks of the Kafue River. Being a major tributary to the Zambezi River it is the largest and longest river lying entirely within Zambia. We overnight on its banks and enjoy the sunset from the elevated deck. Day 3 - 4 LOWER ZAMBEZI CANOEING [1x camping BLD, 1x lodge BL-] We paddle down the mighty Zambezi River, home of the tribal mythical god, Nyami Nyami. Canoeing past local riverside villages and magnificent scenery. We overnight at a wild campsite on Elephant Bones Island in the heart of untamed Africa. The following morning we continue our canoe safari through an area teaming with elephants, hippos and other wildlife. We will be collected by a motorboat, and transferred back up river to our lodge.

Our lodge, on the banks of the Luangwa River, overlooks the national park and you can frequently see hippos and elephants from the camp swimming pool! We explore the game management area and the national park on a game walk and open 4WD game drives, one at night with spotlights, to see nocturnal animals. (In the green season, Dec – Apr, walks may not be possible in which case we’ll do extra game drives). There is time on the last afternoon either to relax in camp or take another game walk, game drive or village visit activity (own expense). Day 9 KUTI [chalet BLD] We cross the border at Chipata into Malawi and make our way to the Capital Lilongwe where we restock on supplies, before heading to Kuti Wildlife Reserve. This reserve is home to wide selection of big mammal species including giraffe, wildebeest & zebra. The sable herds are the pride and joy of Kuti, flourishing in this environment and reaching over 100 animals.

Day 5 LUSAKA – GREAT EAST ROAD [chalet BLD] We head north to Lusaka the capital of Zambia where we stock up on supplies in the bustling shops and markets. Taking the Great East Road we drive this afternoon, passing small villages and street side markets, until sunset reaching the small town of Petauke.

Day 10 - 11 MULANJE MASSIF [lodge BL-] We tour one of Malawi’s famous tea plantations in the Thyolo region before making our way to our lodge in Mulanje. Mount Mulanje’s bare rock flanks tower to almost 3002m, dwarfing all that surrounds it, and influencing cloud patterns in the area, making it an important source of rain water at the head of almost every river in this part of southern Malawi. Formed about 130 million years ago, the first European to see the Massif was David Livingstone in 1859, but archaeological investigation reveals evidence of human activity since the Stone Ages. We take a day walk on the slopes to see the streams, waterfalls and towering peaks.

Day 6, 7, 8 SOUTH LUANGWA NP [chalet BL-] Make our way down into “the valley” of the South Luangwa National Park. This remote region is one of Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuaries where elephants, hippo, lion and leopard abound.

Day 12 - 13 LIWONDE [lodge BLD] Ancient baobab trees and lofty palms provide the backdrop for this magnificent southern Malawi reserve. Covering 548 km² of the upper Shire River plains and valley slopes, Liwonde harbours Malawi’s largest remaining

elephant population and the critically endangered Black Rhino. In the morning we’ll jump onto an open game viewing 4WD and with a knowledge local guide and explore the grassland and woodland habitats in search of leopards, elephants, hippos, antelopes and rare Lilian’s lovebirds. The river Shire flows along Liwonde’s western border and we’ll board a river cruise safari in the hopes of finding hippo, crocodiles, elephants or any other game coming down to quench their thirst in the late afternoon. Day 14 LAKE MALAWI [lodge BLD] Lake Malawi is the jewel of Malawi and one the Great Rift Valley lakes. We head to the Lake Malawi National Park where we take a boat to the secluded tropical Mumbo Island, near Cape Maclear. The rustic lodge is an idyllic paradise with kayaks and snorkelling gear available to explore the island and snorkel with the jewelled fish, the endemic Cichlids. The friendly people of Malawi make it the “warm heart of Africa”. Day 15 LILONGWE [lodge BL-] Wake up to the sound of the birds on your own paradise island. Roll out of bed and head down to the beach to soak a morning of sun and relaxation or take a kayak for a paddle around the island. Stop to snorkel and be amazed by the sheer variety of colour fish. Later we catch the ferry back to mainland where we climb back onto our truck and return to Lilongwe, sun-tanned, laid-back and ready to re-join life. Day 16 LILONGWE – TOUR ENDS [- B - -] Tour ends at 08:00am at the hotel.

The ZB16 Johannesburg to Johannesburg circular route has the advantage of simple international flight plans, and a chance to see rhinos.

We hope to spot some of the endangered rhino on a game drive.

The ZB15 Johannesburg to Maun offers you the option to fly out Maun on day 15 and avoid the long drive back to Jo’burg. Overnight 13 nights on safari we stay at designated campsites, in or bordering national parks and towns. Formal campsites have hot and cold showers, laundry facilities & telephones. 2 nights “camping wild” without fences in the Okavango. On these nights the crew will erect a bucket shower (with hot water off the fire) and a pit latrine (with seat!). Meals 15 breakfasts, 13 lunches and 11 dinners will be provided by the Sunway crew, prepared at the vehicle and eaten around the camp fire or in the boma.

* Bold dates are guaranteed departures, all other dates guaranteed from 4 clients.

Transport we use custom-built Sunway Safari trucks with 12 forward facing seats; or (on 10% of tours) Mercedes Sprinter minibuses with 12 forward facing seats and air conditioning. For the game drives in Matobos, Hwange, Chobe and the transfer into the Okavango we use open 4WD vehicles with local guides. Limited participation An essential part of your safari is participation. From putting up your tent to packing the truck in the morning – it’s all part of your adventure. Your tour leaders will do all the meal preparation but we do ask the clients to help (on rotation) with the washing up. Please note that although Sunway has all the correct paperwork the Beitbridge border crossing into Zimbabwe can take a long time, which can make for a particularly long day.

Good 2Go Zimbabwe has for many years been off the tourist chart. Conservation has been a challenge for many Zimbabweans working in the national parks and or private land. In Matobos and Hwange national parks we use locally owned camps, operators and guides. Bringing tourist revenue back to people on the ground will help support the protection of these beautiful wildlife regions.

EXPEDITION PLAN Day 1 Lusaka Day 2-6 Kafue National Park Day 7-9 Luiwa Plains National Park Day 10-11 upper Zambezi Day 12-13 Livingstone Victoria Falls

There are parts of Africa that retain a wild and untouched aura, a reminder of a time when civilisation and development had not imposed themselves on the continent. Western Zambia is such a place. The Kafue National Park is enormous, wild and amazing to explore. While Luiwa National Park is an extraordinary, forgotten piece of wilderness. Follow the flow of the mighty Zambezi, as we drift downstream to finish this expedition at Most au Tunya, the smoke that thunders, Victoria Falls. Kafue National Park is the oldest of Zambia’s national parks covering a massive 22500 square kilometres making it one of the largest national parks in Africa. Despite its size and prominent location, it remains little known and largely unexplored. The floodplains create a large delta system that attracts thousands of waterbirds, while the remaining diverse habitats entice a variety of other animal species. The Busanga Plain found in the north-west is regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Kafue NP. Busanga is a wide flood plain which is inundated for much of the year, generating expanses of grazing and lush water meadows for thousands of red lechwe and Cape buffalo. The birdlife is prolific. The area is famed for the distinguished Busanga lion prides. Liuwa Plains National Park is located in the far west of Zambia and is a pristine wilderness that is completely natural and non-commercialised. The game is spread out across the plains and takes some driving around to find, but vast herds reminicient of the migrations in east Africa can be seen. Many birds flock here during the rains and massive numbers of birds can be seen as they migrate south.

It is these dedicated individuals, working together to create fun-filled African adventures that make travelling with Sunway Safaris so special.

TRAVELLING IN AFRICA BRING A SENSE OF ADVENTURE!

To travel in Africa and enjoy it you need a relaxed attitude. The clock in Africa runs much more slowly than in your own country and sometimes even stops! Things happen that you may not expect, so flexibility, patience and a sense of humour are essential. Although we prepare the trips carefully, due to the nature of the tour we are sometimes forced to make adjustments to the route. There are some long travelling days, some short ones and at the most interesting places, a few nights at the same camp allowing us to explore.
