It was a pleasure to once again sit down with Vanessa “Vanjie” Mateo for this exclusive Hotspots interview: We haven’t spoken in quite a few years, so how has your life changed?

I mean drastically…to a point I would never have imagined half the stuff I have done, and that I am still able to travel and work. I am so happy I don’t have to think too much as that isn’t my strongest suit. You have traveled the world many times, do you have a favorite city or venue?

One of my favorites is “Gay London” with Jeremy as he is family. He booked me in the very beginning and it’s always a very fun gig. We all saw your dating show, “Vanjie: 24 hours of Love,” are you in a relationship now?

No, I ended up dating that guy for a while but now I am single. What makes perfect guy for you?

I don’t know because if I did, I would have him by

now.

How was your experience on All Stars?

It was a lot of fun and I got to compete with a bunch of people that were the gladiators of the drag world, and of course I got to raise money for charity. It was amazing. And I looked good!

How was it to shoot for Marco Ovando’s 3rd installment of “Dolls,” and how did it feel to be on the cover?

It was a gag for me to be on the cover as he never told me. I did the photos right after all stars, and getting to work with Marco is always a privilege. He has also become one of my dearest friends. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Psychotic, Crazy, and Vanjie

What do you do for fun?

Sit at the house and enjoy my personal time. Also, I love going to movies with my mom.

What does the future hold for Vanjie?

Hopefully to keep working. But I try not to plan too much as the sky is the limit. What should our readers expect from this incarnation of Werq The World Tour?

This is where you come to get your crème dela crème of drag shows. It’s a fierce show and they put a lot of money into it. It’s an amazing cast and the productions are incredible. The audience definitely gets their money’s worth. It’s a grade A prime meat type of show…this is not Hamburger Helper. We get to provide an escape after everything that is going on in the world and I hope everyone comes out to see us!

Tickets are available now at WerqTheWorld.com, with a limited number of VIP packages also available, including exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities with the queens.

Dolls Volume 3 will be available at select tour stops on the 2025 Werq the World Tour and available online at www.marcovando.com and www.vossevents.com. Orders will begin shipping on September 1.

The New Fab 5…

M t e Hosts of B r World !

Bear World TV launched last month, delivering daily doses of news, entertainment, and culture, curated specifically for and by the global bear community.

The channel features five dynamic hosts, each presenting weekly two-minute segments that highlight distinct aspects of bear life, from nightlife and travel to pop culture, style, and humor.

Alexander Rodriguez will host Alexander On Screen, covering the latest in entertainment. International gogobear Hunter Harden turns up the heat in Hunter’s Hot Nights, a nightlife segment sponsored by Gun Oil Personal Lubricant. Joe Martone keeps viewers informed on national events with What to Know with Joe, sponsored by DeviousSaint.com. Travel expert Ravi Roth explores destinations near and far in his segment, sponsored by Island House HotelKey West. And rounding out the lineup, Marquis The Honey Bear delivers laughs with his signature comedic take on quirky bear behaviors.

Meet your new - furrier - Fab Five: What trends are you seeing in queer entertainment right now?

Alexander Rodriguez: I am really excited to see such a diverse group of queer folk taking center stage in media. Yes, we have our pretty boys, but we also have different ethnicities, body shapes, and the trans community stepping into the light.

How do you approach interviewing LGBTQ+ entertainers for the bear community?

Alexander Rodriguez: I love exploring the smaller details of what makes a person tick. It's wild to see that even though we all have different queer journeys and backgrounds, we can all come together in our dream to be heard and included. Who’s on your entertainment bucket list

Alexander Rodriguez: Is Jessica Lange a

How do you curate the best bear-centric parties for your audience?

Hunter Harden: Oh honey, it’s all about sniffing out the right vibe. I’m not just looking for a packed dance floor. I want events that feel like a big, fuzzy family reunion with a touch of glitter. If an event celebrates body positivity, has inclusive energy, and a solid DJ set that makes me shake this booty, it’s making the list. What makes a party truly memorable in the bear scene?

Hunter Harden: A memorable bear party has that magic mix: friendly faces, good beats, and a space where you don’t have to suck in your stomach or dim your shine. Can you share any insider tips for first-timers attending a major bear party?

Hunter Harden: Absolutely! First of all — hydrate, baby. Second, don’t stress about looking like everyone else. Bears come in all colors, sizes, fur lengths, and energy levels. Wear something that makes you feel confident and talk to people! We’re a friendly bunch. If all else fails, find me.

I’ll be the one dancing on the gogo box. What’s the most inspiring bear event you've covered recently?

Joe Martone: Bigger Vegas! Who knew that in the desert, underneath the neon signs of gambling and magic shows, you could find an oasis of body positivity, celebration of the self, and some of the sexiest men you’ve ever seen poolside. What should bears consider when deciding on their next excursion?

Joe Martone: What brings you joy? What’s that one event you hear about every year that makes you say “aw, damn. Well, maybe next year?” Keep an eye on what your heart wants. It’ll steer you right. How do you choose which stories or personalities to spotlight in your segments?

Joe Martone: I look at who’s changing

What are some quirky bear traits that never fail to make you laugh?

Marquis: I love that at any given moment, a bear is hyper fixated on either Pokemon or the nichiest game no one else has heard of. They love all aging scream queen actresses, and they will always mention their CPAP machine in any discussion, no matter the topic. How do you plan to playfully spotlight those quirks in your segments on Bear World TV?

Marquis: Yapping about hyper-fixations is fun as hell. Quirks like 'the hottest cartoon bears in TV history' and 'ranking CPAP machines by aesthetic fierceness' will be a hoot and a holler to unpack. I can't wait to see how bears engage with my channel. I hope they find it seriously unserious. What are the top three bear-friendly travel destinations every member of the community should experience at least once?

Ravi: Sitges, Spain; Cape Town, South Africa; and Key West, Florida. Sitges isn’t just bear-friendly. It’s bear legendary. It’s

home to the world-famous Sitges Bear Week, but even outside of Bear Week, there are two clothing-optional beaches, countless bear bars, and a vibe that screams inclusivity. Cape Town has pristine beaches, dramatic mountains, world-class wineries, and a buzzing city life, layered with a queer scene that’s not just welcoming, but undeniably sexy. And then Key West is a tropical playground where everyone fits in...especially bears. The food scene is ridiculously good. From Cuban to Caribbean to Seafood. It’s a feast in every sense.

What’s been your most transformative travel experience?

Ravi: In 2018, I visited a gay, clothing-optional camp nestled in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. It was the most community-driven experience of my life. It was wildly joyful, deeply affirming, and profoundly healing. I made friends for life, and for the first time, I truly began to love my body.

In 1992 Pam Dawber and the late John Ritter starred in “Stay Tuned,” a comedy cult film about a couple who find themselves trapped in their television for 24 hours. Fast-forward three decades and the film is now itself a TV show. Developed by and to star “The Book of

Mormon” co-stars and co-Tony-nominees Josh Gad (“Frozen”) and Andrew Rannells (“Another Simple Favor”), the updated story will find Gad and Rannells trapped inside the world of small screen entertainment, navigating through an array of popular contemporary series programming. In the ’90s film, the instigating force was Satan, but that seems like the lesser evil compared to just about any

real life terror you’d want to name. Hulu’s got this one, so expect lots of Disney/ Hulu/FX situations where the two wind up at The Bear.

My Best Friend’s… Next Wedding?

They’re calling them legasequels, updated storylines from once-popular-but-long-tim e-no-see IP — think the recent “Naked Gun” movie that reboots the franchise with new characters while keeping the canon. Enter late ’90s rom-com “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” the Julia Roberts/Cameron Diaz/Dermot Mulroney smash that turned veteran queer actor Rupert Everett into a star after stealing every scene he was in. Now Sony is developing the next chapter, with Celine Song (“Materialists”) assigned script duties. That’s every piece of information available right now, aside from Mulroney saying to the press that lawyers are currently having conversations. But for fans, it’s fairly vital that every major cast member return or why bother at all? (We’d also enjoy seeing ’90s bit-player/unknown Paul Giamatti pop up, even if he’s still the guy delivering room service to Julia). Anyway, wait for this one, it could take a while.

Charlie XCX keeps getting cast in films — most still waiting for release — and now she’s going to be play queer in one. It’s called “Erupcja,” from filmmaker Pete Ohs, best known for directing music videos for cool bands like Best Coast and Wavves, and one indie feature, 2017’s “Everything Beautiful Is Far Away.” The plot involves a Polish florist (up-and-coming Polish actress Lena Góra) and her relationship with a British tourist, to be played by Ms. XCX. Beyond that, plot stays under wraps. The film will have its world premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival, with an as-yet-undetermined North American release date to follow. We are ready for Brat Winter.

Cynthia Erivo will be a wicked ‘Dracula’

You’ve been watching videos of Cynthia Erivo throwing down with Adam Lambert at the Hollywood Bowl as Jesus in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” but now the “Wicked” star has another stage role lined up: Dracula. Erivo will star in a one-person stage production of director Kip Williams’ “Dracula” in London. It’s the follow-up to Williams’ “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” The new show will mix live video,

pre-recorded film and Erivo’s performance as she plays 23 different characters. You read that correctly: 23. We do not know if she’ll sing. It seems like with 23 characters she may be too busy for that this time around. Anyway, “Wicked” superfans better get those plane tickets now because it opens at London’s Noël Coward Theatre Feb. 4, 2026 and runs through the end of May.

Romeo San Vicente lets the right one in.

especially over Labor Day Weekend

Between increased road travel traffic, warmer pavement, higher rates of construction and more, summer driving comes with a litany of potential safety hazards. However, knowing the condition of one of your vehicle’s most important safety components – the tires – can help mitigate risks. After all, it’s the only piece of your vehicle that makes contact with the road.

Before setting out on vacation (or just driving across town), consider this advice from Discount Tire’s experts to help drivers like you stay safe on the road this summer.

Rotate Regularly

Tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles, or earlier if uneven wear develops. A good rule of thumb is to have your tires rotated every other oil change, but if you

can’t remember when your tires were last rotated, book an appointment to ensure maximum handling, traction and stopping power.

Replace Aging Tires

As tires age, the rubber becomes harder and brittle, increasing the risk of failure on the road. Typically, experts recommend replacing any tire that’s more than 6 years old. To check the age of your tires, look for the DOT number stamped on its sidewall. If you need assistance finding new tires, Discount Tire’s online tire recommendation tool, Treadwell, combines millions of data points from tire safety checks and independent testing on tires from all major manufacturers. The tool can help you find tires suited for your vehicle, where you

drive and your typical driving habits.

Check Pressure Often

Low tire pressure can lead to poor handling, lower gas mileage and excessive wear. At least once a month – especially before longer trips – when your tires are cool, check the air pressure to ensure it meets the manufacturer’s recommendations, which can be found in your owner’s manual or on a sticker in your vehicle’s driver side door jamb. Beware of the impact bumps and temperature changes have on air pressure.

Ensure

Adequate Tread

Tread depth, or the amount of tread on a tire, helps determine a vehicle’s safe stopping distance.

Tires are typically reaching the end of their life at 4/32 of an inch of tread. You can check it by sticking a penny upside-down in a tread groove; it’s time to replace if President Lincoln’s head is visible. Or visit your local Discount Tire store to have a technician check your tread for free.

Ensure

Tires are Aligned

Wheel alignments adjust the direction your tires point to prevent irregular wear

and improve steering. It may be time to have your alignment checked if you notice steering wheel vibration, uneven tread wear, your vehicle pulling sideways or an off-center steering wheel while driving straight.

Understand Emergency Equipment

Many newer vehicles now come with tire inflation kits that include puncture-coating sealants and air compressors, or even run-flat tires, instead of a spare. Check what your vehicle is equipped with ahead of taking a trip and consider a roadside assistance plan, which can help with flat repairs and replacements in times of need.

Look Beyond Your Tires

In addition to tires, summer provides an opportunity to look at other features of your car that need periodic replacement like rims, windshield wiper blades, lightbulbs and more. For example, windshield wiper blades should be replaced annually, or earlier if heavy streaking occurs.
