1929 1939 First class of 17 students, mainly sons of ‘Horecaf Members’.

Stock Market Crash on 24 October 1929.

School and boarding school opens in Hotel Mathilde Maria on the Gevers Deynootweg 27 in Scheveningen.

20 October: Start of Second Course.

Amongst other courses, the one-year curriculum includes: Serving and Cooking, Business Correspondence, Finance and Controlling, and modern languages such as Dutch, English French and German.

Second class of 32 students, of which 23 graduate.

17 March V.O.L. (Alumni Association) is founded. Chair person is Mr van Oudheusden.

“Once a month, it was mandatory for a student to do an internship of 17-22 hours in the kitchen or in serving. Leading companies such as Hotel Des Indes, the Kurhaus, Hotel de Wittebrug and Hotel Central offered positions to the students.” Author: Pol Hesse

Financial crisis affects the school.

1933 14 students start of which 9 graduate.

In May it is proposed to close the vocational school, however the V.O.L. manages to prevent this.

Mr J.F. van der Luur

18 students participate in the course.

Boarding school moves to Hotel Plaza, Gevers Deynootweg 23. The programme starts 3 weeks later, due to too few students.

1935 1936

A fund is initiated to cover the extra costs of the education, as the school is unable to meet ends, solely with funding from the industry.

Practical culinary course is initiated with the financial help of C.V.G. (association of Dutch breweries).

1938

First woman admitted is Ms Blêcourt, she is also the first woman to graduate that year.

1939

35 students of which 8 women.

1935 Alumni recruit sponsors.

September 1939, Start World War II.
