Cosmetic making and exploring Workshops
Come out and learn how to make your own lip balms, creams, lotions and bath products with natural ingredients with Michelle Simon. There are 4 different workshops being offered so you can choose what suits your interests best.
Instructor information: In 2008, Michelle Simon's mother had an inspiration for a commercial hair mask made of vegetables. Michelle and her mom attempted several failed batches which all smelled like compost and was absolutely nothing like the store-bought product they were trying to recreate. Michelle did more research about formulating a cream product and was delighted to find a private cream and lotion making class taught by a certified herbalist.
This one class changed Michelle’s life in a way that later became revolutionary. Now armed with skills, Michelle sought to recreate the commercial creams and lotions she had been using daily. She was met with shock and anger when she learned of all the harmful chemicals she had been ignorantly using on her skin and hair her whole life. She began to formulate creams comparable to store bought, without the chemicals. She gave samples away to friends and family and orders came in afterward. A visit to the commercial bath bomb store fueled Michelle with formulation inspiration to recreate bath products as well to enjoy without all the artificial fragrance or colors. Lately, Michelle has furthered her knowledge with the completion of Advanced Natural Skin Care Formulation course from Pacific Rim College and currently sells her line of natural skin care line Feelingoods at the Hornby farmer's market. Michelle and her mother never did make a commercial hair mask product to sell, but the idea was the catalyst for the cosmetic formulating knowledge Michelle has acquired and is thrilled to share today.

Jewelry Making Workshops
About the instructor:
Michelle Simon’s journey into jewelry making began in 2001, when she was hired to work at a fashion jewelry manufacturing company in Montreal. On the job, she learned all the skills to construct expertly made jewelry pieces which had to be cranked out by the hundreds. A few years later, she gained a much more refined jewelry production experience working for a belt and accessories manufacturer in Toronto. This company created private label pieces for Prada, Gucci and many other high end fashion brands. All the while, Michelle envisioned a jewelry line of her own. She began designing and selling a line featuring fine beadwork, repurposed vintage beads, and recycled materials. For a few years Michelle sold her jewelry lines to boutiques, and at artisan markets. In 2006 the fashion jewelry market in Canada changed dramatically as huge inflows of similar jewelry began to fill dollar stores and variety stores everywhere. At that time, fashion jewelry ended as a business pursuit but remained a passionate hobby. With over 20 years of jewelry making experience, Michelle is excited to now share her skills and experience with others.
