We are HOPE

We exist to bring HOPE to thousands of Western Australians facing the toughest life challenges.

We cannot succeed in this mission without a commitment to inclusion and diversity in all their forms. We are committed to providing our LGBTQIA+ clients with more than just quality care.

We are dedicated to providing a safe, informed and inclusive service where LGBTQIA+ clients are asked for and addressed by their chosen pronouns.

We acknowledge and respect the lived experiences of our LGBTQIA+ clients, and we are committed to developing secure spaces where they feel valued, respected and celebrated as equal members of our community.

We are here for you

Reaching out can be hard, especially if you aren’t sure which service you need. At HOPE, there is no wrong door. Whichever way you come to us, we will listen to you and support you – completely confidentially. If our services are not the right match, we will direct you to the ones that are.

HOPE acknowledges and pays respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the first peoples and Traditional Owners of the lands on which we meet, work and live. HOPE pays our respect to them and their Elders – past, present and emerging. HOPE, as an organisation, welcomes the opportunity to develop respectful and lasting relationships with all First Nations people, families and communities.

HOPE acknowledges and welcomes diversity in all its forms among staff and clients, including culture, language, race, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, intersex variations, religion and relationship status.

HOPE acknowledges people with lived experience of addiction, mental health and recovery and the lived experience of families, carers and supporters.

Working with us

When you come to us, government policy and regulations mean we are required to ask your full name and sex as listed on your birth certificate.

For some services we may also ask for your private health fund details – if you have one.

We will also ask for the name you prefer and the pronouns you use, and we will make sure these are the ones used when team members talk to you.

Should you wish to share your lived experiences as an LGBTQIA+ person with us, we welcome your views and perspectives.

However, we do not expect you to take on the role of educating our staff on LGBTQIA+ issues. Our focus is on meeting your needs and supporting you to reach your treatment goals.

Our services

Alcohol and other Drug

We offer AOD support services, including individual and group counselling, cultural healing programs and court diversion. Our case managers can help you navigate your recovery by putting you in contact with other services you need.

We also run Hope Springs Therapeutic Community, a longterm AOD residential rehabilitation facility in the Midwest.

Mental Health

We run adult mental health services, including individual and group counselling, alongside mental health education and awareness campaigns. We have a strong focus on suicide prevention.

We also operate headspace centres in Kalgoorlie and Esperance, providing mental health services for 12- to 25-year-olds.

Family and Domestic Violence

We operate two FDV hubs in Western Australia. At Mara Pirni Healing Place in Kalgoorlie you can access counselling and practical support services including advocacy, safety planning, cultural healing, legal and early childhood services.

At South East FDV Healing Hub in Armadale you can access counselling and practical support services including advocacy and safety planning.

Youth Justice

We run Community Mentoring and Residential Bail Accommodation services throughout the State, supporting young people to develop practical life skills and make positive behaviour changes.

We also offer safe accommodation to young people referred to us via the courts and corrective services.

Our journey to inclusivity

HOPE is committed to achieving Rainbow Tick accreditation.

In practice this means developing and implementing policies and practices that ensure our staff, services and workplaces are inclusive and respectful of LGBTQIA+ people.

We have a dedicated LGBTQIA+ committee making recommendations on how we can become more inclusive, and we are also working hard to build our teams’ knowledge on LGBTQIA+ issues and encouraging them to become active Allies.

Our journey has just started - we know there is much more to come.

Ultimately we want our LGBTQIA+ clients, staff, volunteers and partners to feel safe and valued when they are with us.
