Thevisionistoharnesstheirenergiesandskillstospread awarenessaboutHopeamongtheirpeersandtogenerate newideasandnewactivitiesinsupportoftheresearchand treatmentprojectsthatHopehelpstofund.

DeputyLieutenantof LeicestershireLibbieTurnbull visitedtheofficesofHope AgainstCanceronWednesday Sept.7thtodeliveranaward commemoratingHerLate MajestyQueenElizabeth’s PlatinumJubileeonbehalfof theLordLieutenant,Mike Kapur,recognisingthe charity’sexceptionaland positivecontributiontothe localcommunity. Itwasmostappropriatefor Mrs.Turnbulltopresentthe awardtothecharity managementasshehas herselfbeenafriendand volunteeratHopesinceits foundationin2003.

Prideandjoyintheaward wasmutedbytheterrible sadnessofthenewsofHer Majesty’spassingthevery nextday,butCEONigelRose saysthateveryoneinvolvedin HopeAgainstCancerisnow allthemoredeterminedto continue,strengthenand expandtheirfundraising work.

Weliveinextremelychallengingtimes.Aseconomic conditionsworsen,raisingfundswillbecomemoredifficult, whiledemandforourcharitablesupportwillincrease.

Asalways,it’sattheregionalandlocallevelthatanswerstothis demandaremostrelevantAnswerssuchastheworkof ProfessorDeanFennell,who,withhisteamattheHopeCancer TrialsCentrehereinLeicester,conductedthefirsteverpositive laterphasetrialforpatientswithmesothelioma.Thisvitalwork haschangedUKpracticeandbeenrecognisedworldwide. Tenyearsago,suchtrialsonlytookplaceincentressuchas London,Oxford,Cambridge,Birmingham.Now,theHope CancerTrialsCentreisestablishedasaworldclassresourcethatliterallygiveshopeto patientsfromLeicestershireandRutlandand thesurroundingarea.
