The Teaching Artist
The actor’s studio can still delight and surprise veteran performer and teacher Jere Shea. Shea, a Tony-nominated actor and HCA’s director of acting and musical theater, often finds himself learning so much from his students during scene work.
“My students are always showing me new ways to think about acting and performance—always showing me that there is more than one way to experience a moment or to express a thought,” said Shea, a Hopkinton resident who became involved at HCA with his family when the campus was built. “It’s a humbling thing, to sit in a class and watch a student soar in a scene—watch them reveal a new “truth” on stage.”
Additionally, Shea is bringing his professional wisdom and those of other industry professionals to a broader audience through the new HCA web series “The Journey,” conversations where seasoned actors, writers, and producers reflect on what an actor’s professional journey can look like for those starting on the path.
“If you watch every episode, you realize that there is no one path to make your way in the entertainment industry… but what has made each of these guests a great artist is that they’ve all lived their own lives, had their own experiences, and learned their own lessons,” said Shea.
