National poetry day It was National poetry day yesterday. I would like to thank Miss Musk and Miss Houlding for designing the launch assemblies that took place this week. The theme is ‘Choice’ - what does ‘choice’ mean to you? The launch contained Choice by Imtiaz Dharker and Nothing Personal by John Mole as stimuli to ignite ideas. I really liked how Miss Musk and Miss Houlding presented us with some big questions to get us really thinking about what choice means and then linked it to the topic of inclusivity. They challenged us all to ensure that being inclusive is a choice that we should all make!

ambitions for expansion. This is because our culture and ethos comes first. We don’t aspire to build a megalopolis where learners get lost in the crowd. We do not want our learners to become a number - they have a name.

Families embraced our traditional approach to standards and our high expectations which were very visible in the conduct of our thoroughly nice children who all acted as superb ambassadors for the school. If you attended the evening I hope you were able to gain a feel for the culture and ethos at Honywood. I would like to thank Beth and Isabelle who both spoke to families last night. Between them they represented the start and the end of the Honywood journey. Both of them did a superb job. Due to high demand we are continuing to offer tours over the next two weeks. If anyone would like to book onto a tour please contact the school office.

The big questions were: • Why might someone choose to exclude someone else? • Can you think of a time you chose to exclude someone or that you were excluded? • How can you ensure that everyone in school feels welcome and included? • What can you do if you see someone that appears to have been excluded from something?

Thanks to: Our Lead Learners who helped with our tours this week

The deadline to get poems handed in is Monday 11th October and the winner will have their poem published in next week’s Headlines. You can learn more about national poetry day here: https://nationalpoetryday.co.uk/celebrate-nationalpoetry-day/

We had the pleasure of having Louis join us for a week of work experience at the end of the summer holidays and I wanted briefly to congratulate you on an amazing student and ambassador for Honywood School.

Open Evening Last night was our Open Evening for current year six learners looking to join us next September. On the back of two weeks of fully booked tours we have felt a real excitement about the prospect of these new learners joining us. The feedback I received last night was very complimentary and highlighted the impact of our focus on building relationships and getting to know the learners as an individual with individual needs. I made it clear to families that we are a small school and have no

Congratulations To: Louis Byrnes 11RPh who spent the summer holidays completing work experience at Vision Artists in London. We received a lovely message about Louis from the Managing Director.

Louis undertook many tasks, including general running duties, answering the phones, office admin, including filing, stationery orders, etc but he also undertook some more specialist tasks, creative brief reading, social media posts, tv commercial research, image sourcing from moving films and web site write-ups via the back end of our website, to name but a few of his tasks. Louis approached all his work with enthusiasm, was engaging and proactive. We were all so very impressed with his maturity and confidence; he was an absolute joy to have in the office and he should be congratulated on his time with us. Well done Louis!
