OVERCOMING PERSONAL CHALLENGES

As we wrap up the week we are preparing to say farewell to many learners for a week abroad. As part of this year’s final enrichment week our C7 learners will be off to Caythorpe in Lincolnshire or attending a programme of activities and days out in school. C9 and C10 will be visiting Paris and Berlin. C9 will also be taking part in university visits, study skills training and a dragons den challenge. C10 will be taking part in work experience. C8 will be in school running pop up businesses. I have checked the forecast and it looks good.

No matter which activity our learners are involved in, each one will support them to think, reflect and overcome personal challenges. Overcoming life’s challenges is an important part of building character. Our approach to building cultural and social capital in all our learners is designed to do this. These character building challenges come in many forms, such as leaving home. I am sure that these experiences will help to build resilience to face the everyday challenges that school often presents. Challenges like: balancing workload; revising for exams; taking exams; making friends; talking to a class; leading peers and supporting friends.

I am looking forward to sharing the details of the enrichment week prior to the end of term. Keep an eye on Facebook to follow the many exploits of the week - it’s going to be a busy one.

In light of most staff and learners being out of the building next week we will not issue a headlines at the end of next week. Therefore there will be two final headlines of the school year on Friday 14th and 21st July.

I wish you all a lovely weekend.

INTAKE DAYS

C6 enjoyed their two taster days with us with a variety of activities to give them a really enjoyable experience. They came in on Thursday to get to grips with the ethos of the school and to start to meet the key people that will be supporting them.

By the end of the day, the learners were feeling more confident in talking to each other, both in small groups and as a whole class. They made a great start in moving around the school and mixing a little with the older learners.

All in all, they had a thoroughly good time and are looking forward to starting here in September!

Our C9 learners were absolutely brilliant as support. They were efficient and helped make the youngsters feel at ease. Their input has been really appreciated.

Last night, C6 parents attended the Intake Evening to begin to learn about what being a Honywood learner is all about. Mrs Borella did a fantastic job at sharing her vision and introducing herself to families in her first official public engagement as a new cohort leader. I am looking forward to getting to know this cohort in September.

Well done to our fantastic C9 GCSE dancers who performed at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford this week as part of the Gotta Dance event. They were fantastic and really enjoyed the opportunity to perform.

Their performance was inspired by their visit to the Royal Opera House to see Wayne Mcgregor's Woolf Works.

CANTEEN SERVICES DURING ENRICHMENT WEEK

Our catering team are taking the opportunity, with the limited number of learners in school, to undertake a deep clean of the entire kitchen. Deep cleaning is vital for school kitchens because it involves thoroughly cleaning the entire space, including surfaces, walls, cooking equipment, filters, vents, and chillers. We are committed to the health and wellbeing of our learners and staff and to maintaining our impeccable health and safety standards. During next week our catering services will run from the Pop Up Servery in the main hall. We will be unable to provide hot food and will be offering a selection of fresh baguettes, fruit, drinks and snacks.
