Our newest cohort of learners have just completed their first two taster days with us. The days have been filled with a variety of activities to give them a really enjoyable experience and to begin to create a sense of belonging to our Honywood community. On Thursday they got to meet their cohort leader Ms Ward, their learning group leader, and me! They explored the school and got to grips with our ethos, which included learning about our core values of Trust, Respect, Equity and Excellence.
By the end of day one, the learners were feeling more confident in talking to each other, both in small groups and as a whole class. They made a great start in moving around the school and mixing a little with the older learners. Thank you to all the families who took time to share feedback with us.
Day two was about experiencing the classroom. Each learning group got to have a taster of a range of subjects, which included: PE, Science, Maths and Expressive Arts. I thoroughly enjoyed popping into their lessons and seeing how engaged they all were.
After a wave of emotion and apprehension I think that all in all, the learners had a thoroughly good time. I hope they are looking forward to starting here in September!
A big thank you to the lovely group of current learners taken from across the school who supported the learning groups through each of the activities. They were super efficient and helped make the youngsters feel at ease. I have received many compliments from the C6’s themselves about how lovely their helpers were. Their input has been really appreciated.

Yesterday evening we began the process of welcoming our families. In a very hot hall they were introduced to Ms Ward and the journey ahead. Through our Intake Evening parents begin to learn about what being a Honywood learner is all about. Ms Ward did a fantastic job at sharing her vision and introducing herself to families in her first official public engagement as their cohort leader. I am looking forward to getting to know this cohort in September.
I wish you a lovely warm weekend.
