“Each child has a spark inside him or her. It is the responsibility of the people and institutions around each child to find what would ignite that spark” Howard Gardner.

After so much disruption this year it has felt a bit like a reignition of things this term. Walking round the school I have seen learners rekindling their love of learning. This week we welcomed Clare Kershaw, Director of Education for Essex, to have a look around Honywood. Clare was very impressed with what she saw during her visit and was very complimentary about our learners positive attitude towards their studies. It is so nice to be able to get out and around a full school now to see the great start learners have made this term. One of the issues we spoke to Clare about was the difficulties some of our families face regarding transport. We had a good discussion about this but ultimately were left a little deflated as it was quite clear that the decisions made centrally regarding transport were driven by cost and will not be changing. Therefore if we are to improve things we must do so ourselves. I guess the good thing is that we know where we stand and where to devote our energies to now. I wish you all a lovely weekend. The weather is turning and BBQ season is upon us. James Saunders Learning, memory and revision As we approach assessment time it is important for all learners to utilise their independent study wisely to complement their learning in class and effectively revise. I have previously shared some useful resources around the school that I thought would be of wider interest. The following articles can help parents in understanding how to support their children with independent study and revision. Hopefully this will lead to some conversations

This day will contribute to the assessment process for current Cohort 11 learners in response to the change in examination arrangements. This day has been coordinated across all schools in the trust so that teachers are able to complete the necessary cross moderation and grades. Thanks to: Lead Learner for Environment Beth Chapman and Deputy Lead Learner Marcia Swain for guiding Clare Kershaw around our school on her tour. Also to Lead Learner for Wellbeing Mia Fisher and Deputy Lead Learner Roxy Slaney for guiding visitors from the Mid and South Essex Schools and College Mental Health Support Team around our school. To: Gracie Tupper and Poppy Webster who this week took the initiative and picked up litter dropped by others. Thank you for caring for our environment. House points to both girls! Our Lead Learners will be starting a campaign soon to encourage more learners like Poppy and Gracie to care for our school environment.
