arcus “Doc” Holliday is a familiar face often seen on your local television sports channel. He is a Memphis native who attended Fairley High School and is a former Memphis Tigers football player. He is no stranger to Mid-South sports fans. He accepted his first job in local TV at FOX13 in 1998. From 2011-20, he worked as a sports anchor and sports director at Local 24. Most recently, Holliday worked as director of broadcast operations at Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss., where he was general manager of the school’s radio and TV stations. He now is seen on WMC5 and hosts the popular show The Doc Holliday Show on youtube and other internet platforms.

J

anas L. Jackson, Jackson President of Jan Jackson Productions, LLC, a public relations and communications firm specializing in effective written and oral communications products and strategies. Services include executive speechwriting and coaching, video scriptwriting, editorial commentaries, and inspirational books for children. Her new children’s book, titled “Goodbye Shy, Hello Sky,” is scheduled for release in April 2024.

Janas has served as a writer and communications advisor to civil rights activist and actresses. She authored a globally-distributed business history book, Dover Elevators: A History, which is on file in the Memphis Room of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.

Janas has been featured in O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, the Memphis Commercial Appeal, and other publications for her community efforts in the areas of diversity and inclusion, youth development, education, and women’s issues.

Chapter History The Links, Incorporated, founded in 1946, is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. This international, not-for-profit corporation has a membership of more than 17,000 professional women of color serving in 299 chapters in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom.

The Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has touched the lives of many citizens in Memphis and across the globe. In 1983, a special interest group was organized by Charlotte Brooks Polk to address educational, cultural and civic development in the Memphis and Shelby County area. Two years later, with the same goals in mind, the group was chartered as a chapter of The Links, Inc. Today, the Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Inc. is continuing to nurture members of the community, particularly in the areas of education, economic empowerment, health, financial literacy and civic leadership. Furthering the chapter’s community outreach, the chapter continues a long-standing relationship with its adopted school, Double Tree Elementary, participating in career fairs, field trips, health fairs and cultural enrichment activities.

Over the past two decades, the Shelby County (TN) Chapter also contributed to the advancement of area youth by adopting the Jessie Mahan Day Care Center, providing a full playground for the Southside Boys and Girls Club and working with the Exchange Club on child advocacy issues. The Leadership Academy is the crown jewel of the chapter’s program services. The Academy is an eight-month mentoring program for African American high school males providing leadership development, cultural experiences, mentoring and volunteerism experiences. Over 500 young men have completed the program, which culminates with the annual Beautillion celebration. The inaugural Le Beautillion Militaire was held in April 1987. This initiative boasts doctors, lawyers, congressmen and leaders across the country as program graduates. Through the years, the outstanding graduates have returned to serve as mentors and sponsors to program participants. Through this program, the Chapter has sponsored numerous projects in the community and provided college scholarships for young men. Beyond impacting the leaders of tomorrow, the efforts of the Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Inc. are global in its reach. The Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated continues to be recognized as an award-winning chapter at the area and national level.

The history of the Shelby County (TN) Chapter provides a rich foundation to fuel its present and future endeavors of Linked in Friendship, Connected in Service.

What an exceptional accomplishment over the last thirty-seven years for the Shelby County (TN) Chapter to have not only created this Leadership Academy that develops high school juniors and seniors into critical thinkers who are culturally grounded and supported in their pursuit of successful careers but to also have awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to over 400 to these well-deserved African-American male senior college-bound students. This long-standing event exemplifies the chapter’s demonstrated ability and commitment to building partnerships to raise funds to serve the Shelby County community and your chapter to the best of your ability.

This fundraiser's financial investment places these African-American male students on the pathway to the “American Dream”. It allows them to seek and achieve their full potential by pursuing higher education opportunities.

Shelby County (TN) Chapter, you are “Simply the Best”! THANK YOU. Tonight is special, as we return from the interruption of this annual event since the pandemic. It affirms how members of our Village “made a way out of no way” to keep enhancing and elevating our community. You understood the risk of not eliminating the barriers that could have devastated the future of our children; with none more vulnerable than our young black men.

Just like the 500+ young African American men who came before tonight’s honorees, we needed to count on them being prepared to lead and contribute to the health and well-being of our local and global Village. To date our honorees have given a great account of themselves and we have no doubt of future opportunities they will provide for all of us to relish with pride.

GREETINGS FROM THE

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY COMMITTEE We are extremely overjoyed to celebrate this illustrious culminating event, The Beautillion Experience, centered around our 2024 Beaux of the Leadership Academy. It has been a pleasure working with such talented, debonair, handsome, outgoing, athletic, and above all, scholarly young men. The experience of being co-chairs has given us the opportunity to capture the highlights of this year’s activities and review your responses to the challenges, questions and situations that were uniquely presented. The Leadership Academy was steadfast in presenting those activities which were centered around three aspects which greatly influence the success of young African American young men: Experiences, Connections and Education.

At each session the beaux collaborated with outstanding men and women in the Memphis community including Mayor Paul Young, Keynote speaker at the Father/Son Luncheon; Rev. Sherman Helton, Jr, of “It’s A Man’s World”; County Assessor Melvin Burguess, Jr., Dr. Samuel Polk and Mr. Pullman who lead “Barbershop Talk: Beaux to Men” and Toni Polk who led sessions on “Budgeting and Investing the Bag.” Our sessions were hosted by Youth Villages, Collage Dance Collective, Pullman’s barbershop and HBCU Lemoyne-Owen College.

Outstanding retreats were enjoyed with the Memphis Grizzles at the FEDEX Forum and with Senator Raumesh Akbari as she rolled out the red carpet at the Legislative Retreat in Nashville, Tennessee. We interacted with Governor Bill Lee and dined with other dignitaries on the campus of Tennessee State University. It has truly been a phenomenal year.

We salute these young men and celebrate their successes. Hats off to the beaux, class of 2024 of The Leadership Academy of the Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Dear Barack, As your parents, we wanted to take a moment to express our deep love and admiration for the remarkable young man you have become. In 2004 your dad shared with me that when we have a son, he wanted to name his son after a man the world had not met, a U.S. Senator from Illinois named Barack Obama. I was hesitant because it sounded like a funny name that I knew no one would ever pronounce correctly. In 2005, you were born, and that name resonated with me when I learned Barack means “Blessed”. It feels like only yesterday when you were just a little child celebrating your Elmo themed first birthday, and now you are nearing the end of your senior year. As we reminisce about the memories we’ve shared, we are filled with joy and gratitude. From your first steps to your first day of school, from your achievements in academics and on the sports field to your artistic endeavors, every moment has been treasurable to us.

Throughout your journey, we have watched you grow and overcome challenges with determination and grace. We have seen you give up on something you have a passion for because of not being given an opportunity to show your talent; however, when you prayed and went back to that talent you then succeeded and was more confident in what you accomplished. We have also seen you develop into someone who is kind, compassionate, and selfless. You love to celebrate others, but we want you to learn to allow others to honor and recognize you. Heart of a Champion: The one who does not give up in the face of difficulty.

I remember when you were younger, and decided you wanted to join the cross-country team. As your Mom, I was nervous. You had run track before, but this would be your first time running such a long distance. Questions started racing through my mind, as the butterflies took flight in my stomach. How would he do? Is this his race? What about his asthma? The gun went off. What seemed like 50 or more kids took off and disappeared onto the race route. Your dad and I went and sat on the bleachers to wait where the runners would finish.

Soon, runners began to appear and would go on to cross the finish line. We stood there making quiet small talk, looking and waiting for you. The butterflies grew, and my palms started to sweat. Your Dad could read my energy and just smiled. My silent pondering was interrupted by a sudden loud cheering and clapping from the crowd. There was a small boy in the distance, his little legs were beginning to pick up speed, and he began to pass several runners in front of him. His tiny arms were pumping hard, his head thrown back in the wind, and his eyes set firmly on the finish line. Everyone was on their feet to cheer him on. They were amazed at how this little boy fought, to push himself to finish strong. It was a pure heart finish. The Heart of a Champion Finish. That little boy was you. And it’s who you are today.

Things haven’t always come easy in life for you, however, your resilience and tenacity have always shown through. I admire your commitment to just being you.

Your Dad and I are proud that you are a 4-year honor roll student, a Literature award winner, athlete, servant leader and 2x Amazon Best Selling Author. But we are more proud of the human being you have become.

It’s been so beautiful watching you find your voice, your passion, doing it your way, on your terms.

Keep speaking, singing, and sharing! You have a powerful message that inspires and empowers other young boys who look just like you.

You are heading into a new season in your life. There will be times when you may feel afraid, unsure or even lonely. Please remember this scripture…

Letter to our son Christopher (“CJ”) Hearn, Jr. CJ, We want to start this letter by saying that you could not imagine how much we wished and prayed for your birth and presence in our lives. You are an absolute blessing to us, and we thank God for the gift of you. Since you arrived in this world, we have continued to watch you grow and develop into the wonderful and purpose driven young man that you have now become. For this, we could not be prouder.

As you continue to develop into manhood, remember your family values. Continue to show love, respect, and work hard in all that you do. You’ll be faced with challenges along the way into adulthood, but we know you’ll always rise to the challenge. Also, know that we will always be there for you and together we will overcome any challenges and obstacles that life puts your way.

To my favorite son; my only son, Braden, Writing this letter to you has been one of the hardest tasks for me to complete. How do I adequately express my love and adoration for you? Words escape me as I attempt to demonstrate my love to you daily through my own love language of acts of service.

God orchestrated your entire existence. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5. God has placed His special gifts and talents within you. I see these gifts in your compassion for the elderly. I see your genuine concern about their food insecurities. I see the way you pray for your friends and family. I see how you openly and unashamedly share and discuss God’s word. These things, and so much more, bring me immense joy that God trusted us to be your parents to care and guide you on this journey. I love the way you love your siblings. Being the middle child and only boy can be challenging, but you handle it as if you were the big brother to both of your sisters.

You pray over them and let them know every chance you get that you love them. This brings me more joy than you will ever know.

I love and appreciate how you have always shown your gratitude for small things.

I remember when you were in elementary school; we stopped to pick up food at a restaurant. After ordering the food, you said “thank you” and another customer overheard you. I thought nothing of it because you always said thank you but the customer was astonished and asked if you always thanked me. The customer then proceeded to tell me that we must be doing something right with parenting because her kids never thanked her. Again, a sense of pride and thankfulness swelled up inside of me.

During your injury, I saw how your personal relationship with God flourished. As challenging and difficult this entire process was for all of us, I am grateful of the outcome. God wanted you to be still and hear His voice. He needed you to know that He will never leave you or forsake you and to trust that He was working it out for your good. Watching you grow spiritually has been one of the greatest rewards as parents.

Your dad and I are so proud of the caring and resilient young man you have become.

Sometimes we look at you and still see that rambunctious, determined little boy who dreamed about solving math equations and playing basketball. It is as if we blinked and you became this handsome, compassionate young man.

We cannot wait to see what God has in store for you. Keep pushing and never settle for less. We love you, son.

Letter To Our Sonshine!

My Dearest Joshua, We are overwhelmed with love and gratitude for having you in our lives. You bring us immense happiness, and we want to take this moment to express just how truly special you are!

Your personality lights up a room. Your thirst for knowledge is infectious. We love how determined you are to achieve your goals. We know you will succeed in whatever you put your mind to. Watching you blossom in to a considerate and caring young man has been one of our greatest joys. We are so very proud to be your mom and dad. We hope you always believe in yourself as much as we believe in you. As you grow, there are a few points we want you to cling to.

Whenever you feel overwhelmed, recall whose son you are and straighten your crown. Every day may not be good, but find something good in every day. You will have times of happiness and disappointment; laugh, love, live and follow YOUR dreams. You have a purpose that cannot be denied.

When life’s challenges arise, know that you are BLESSED beyond measure, BRAVER than you feel, STRONGER than you realize, SMARTER than you think and LOVED more than you know. Life has its ups and downs, for comfort during difficult seasons, refer to Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Remember everyone deserves respect and we expect you to show it. It is always the right choice to do the right thing. Doing the right thing often takes a lot of courage, trust in yourself and your gut. And lastly always put God at the center of everything… Your job, your hobbies, your relationships, and your decisions! Tuck these bits and pieces of advice in your heart and draw them out when you need them. You are meant for great things, son. We cannot wait to see how you make your mark!

Dear Miles: Where do I begin? Your journey has definitely been an interesting one to say the least. You have always been the son that wanted to stay close, even before you arrived. You were determined to stay inside and doctors were forced to come get you.

You arrived on your own terms and have been living life on your own terms ever since. As a newborn, you decided that milk was not enough, so at 3 months, you got cereal. As a toddler, you started making your own rules. You began to let everyone know, what you say is what mean…

You were even giving the dentist a piece of your mind! From that moment on, your father and] I knew you were special. As we watched you progress through elementary school we learned that your “active” personality was simply an outward expression of your intelligence and creativity.

Then came middle school. Not only were these years formative for you, they were DEFINITELY formative for us as parents as we learned that you were definitely going to do what make you happy, and make lemonade out of what you seemed to think were lemons.

While we were pulling our hair out, we were yet praying for the Lord to take your smart mind and independent spirit, and headstrong attitude and mesh them into something great. Time went on, and the Lord took that mixture and sprinkled a little athletic ability on top, and sent you on to high school. When times got rough during the first two years, we did what parents do… prayed for the Lord to put you back on a path toward success. The Lord send not one, but several rams in the the bush. Your love for sports was reignited, and you found JROTC. As parents we questioned your decision, because who wants to think of the idea of their son making a decision to join the military and possibly getting called into combat? NOONE. But, as most parents that love their children do we, let you proceed with your decision to see how things would unfold (secretly hoping you wouldn’t like it and would change after 9th grade). You started marching and you never stopped.

As the years went on JROTC became your main focus and has the catalyst for remaining a stellar student and becoming an outstanding leader, not only among your battalion, but in other activities as well. Throughout your journey, you have had many obstacles and some tough decisions, and we have stood on the sidelines and cheered and corrected, while you KEPT MARCHING. On January 25, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. you met the biggest obstacle yet. While you laid in that car unconscious, I truly believe that all the prayers your dad, your brother, and I prayed worked as GOD whispered in your ear, KEEP MARCHING. Miles, we want you to know that you were put on this earth for a reason– to lead, to inspire and to never take no for an answer. Before you were born, we thought you would always stay close, but since you arrived you’ve been marching, we’ve done our best to lead the way, although we didn’t always understand your path you were trying to take we kept running beside you..

18 years later, we get it. As you march ahead into the tour of duty called adulthood, let God continue to march beside you and we’ll be marching in time right behind. Parent Letter to Malik Turner It seems like it was only yesterday when your dad and I brought you home from the hospital. I remember looking at you while waiting for dad to get the car and saying to myself “what in the world am I going to do with this precious little boy.” I was a nervous wreck. I would watch you like a hawk, often ignoring the “sleep when the baby sleeps” advice. Now you are a senior in high school ready to take on the world and carve-out your own path. Our hearts are heavy and a little sad because you have grown-up so fast, but we are also excited considering what the future holds for you. Your genuine heart, care and concern for others will get you far. There will always be that part of us which wants to watch your every move and make sure you are safe from all harm. However, we know you must now spread your wings and fly. We pray that the things we have taught you will propel you to greater things in life. Remember the words that your mom has always told you from a little boy, “YOU ARE DESTINED FOR GREATNESS.” Please continue to lean on God, believe in yourself, and trust your instincts because the sky is the limit. We are in awe as we look at the young man you have become. Dear Andrew, It is with full hearts of joy, faith and love that we write this special note to you. Andrew, your journey all began about 17 years and 8 months ago. It was a summer day and you came into our lives and became our sunshine. Life flew by fast and so did you. You made us proud early son, taking on and showing early leadership at GSL with your first marketing project for your Poppa’s election. Your creativity and leadership was already beginning to show!

And later you began to shine on the soccer field, basketball court and then later the football field. We’ve watched you grow from running around in Whitehaven at Uncle James and Aunt Squeekie’s big back yard, to running around the court and being one of the top players in the school tournaments. We’ve seen you grow, Andrew. Fast forward back to Grace St. Luke’s, full circle, you came back to where it all began! You led there and excelled on the debate team and took up classes like Latin. It was all making you grow, and we were, with faith and love, watching you grow.

Your skills son with technology and marketing are truly masterful! We’ve watched that growth too! You became the family’s historian, graphic designer, web designer, social media consultant and videographer all at the same time. The memories you captured and produced for our family were simply breathtaking. And then we’ve watched you become engaged and concerned about real world issues, taking your own positions on how we can improve the narrative in our community and change the trajectory of our community and world. We’ve watched your growth through oral advocacy, speaking with grace and confidence and with good command of complex issues. And then the day arrived: You became a senior, after you had swung the golf clubs hundreds if not thousands of times playing the game of golf, but while “growing “and learning the game of life.

Andrew, your family has planted seeds for you and we, including you, have helped and labored to water those seeds. But always remember son along your journey of life that while we can all plant and water, it is always God who actually gives the “growth.”

Our continual prayers will be with you along your journey as you lean on God for the growth so that you reach all he has in store, his plans to prosper you and give you continued protection and love. We know you will continue to grow and in turn plant seeds and water and cultivate for your family and the community while watching God do what only he can! Continue to grow Andrew and use your vast and unique talents with which only God has blessed you.

As we reach this new chapter to release you to the world, our prayer is that you take on this new role with the same attitude as when you arrived. We want you to be effective in the lives of others, dance to a beat so people can look up to you and have that same melody in your head to be motivated to achieve greatness. Be a leader in all areas and do not be shy to always do the right thing. Be proud of who you are and whose you are.

They are outstanding in their fields – public and private sectors, in the arts, the law and letters, in the sciences, in business and in entrepreneurship. Attorney Corbin I. Carpenter, Carpenter a native Memphian, is a Managing Member of Carpenter Law, PLLC, wherein the Firm’s primary practice focus area is corporate and municipal finance law. He is a legacy corporate entrepreneur focused on equitable community infrastructure growth. The Firm has assisted in facilitating various municipal bond financings throughout the State of Tennessee and the southeastern region yielding billions of dollars in direct economic impact and investment into the infrastructure of various cities.

Attorney Carpenter continues to prioritize the importance of community service, advocacy, and leadership wherein he has accumulated a unique and long-standing pedigree of civic engagement from being actively involved within the Memphis community through mentoring high school, collegiate, and law students and serving in leadership positions on various local non-profit boards.

Reginald Clark, CFP is the head of P3 Financial Group, a company specializing in wealth management. He was born and raised in Jackson, Tennessee. He graduated from then Memphis State University, where he received a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Finance.

He also obtained an Executive Certificate in Financial Planning from Christian Brothers University. Reginald worked for MetLife, and now lives out his dream of owning his own firm.

Reginald’s calling to do what is best for his clients has pushed him to obtain the Certified Financial Planner practitioner certification. In Reginald’s quest to educate his clients and the community, he continues to hold financial seminars, and has even authored a book entitled “Don’t Take That Cheese”.

He is a devoted member of his church serving as Elder and Board Member. He also serves on the board of two non-profit organizations and is the past President of the local graduate chapter of his fraternity. He also cherishes the time that he spends with his wife, daughters, and extended family and enjoys reading, movies, and traveling.

Nathan L. Essex is President Emeritus of Southwest Tennessee Community College. Essex graduated from Alabama A & M University, Jacksonville State University, and the University of Alabama.

He has held positions as a public school teacher and administrator as well as corporate management positions. Since earning a doctorate, he has served as Associate Director of the Bureau of Educational Service and Research, Program Chair of the Administration and Planning program.

Essex served as the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Memphis. He was selected by the Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents to devise a system to merge the former Shelby State Community College and State Technical Institute at Memphis. The successful merger resulted in the current institution, Southwest Community College.

Essex is a published author of numerous articles, book chapters and newsletters on personnel, leadership and legal issues. He is married to Lorene Essex and has three children—Kimberly, Jarvis and Nathalie.

Michael Fulton is the Director of Government Affairs and Business Diversity Development for the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. Fulton is responsible for managing the legislative priorities for the airport and advocating the Authority’s initiatives to local, state, and federal government. He is also responsible for the overall leadership of MSCAA’s Business Diversity Development functions, which are designed to increase opportunities for minority-owned, womanowned, and local small businesses. Additionally, Fulton has more than 15 years of experience in government.

Fulton was honored by the Memphis Business Journal in 2018 with the “Top 40 Under 40” award and is a 2019 graduate of Leadership Memphis. His professional organizations include the American Association of Airport Executives and the Greater Memphis Chamber.

He currently serves as a Board Chair for the Memphis Area Transit Authority, and board member of Seeding Success, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. Fulton is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and is the husband of Tia.

Dr. Charles Parker is a distinguished pharmacy professional with over three decades of experience. He graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana. He has worked in retail pharmacy and progressed to Regional Pharmacy Manager. He transitioned to Specialty Pharmacy with Accredo Health, where he currently serves as the Senior Operations Manager, steering one of the largest Specialty Pharmacies in the nation.

Alongside his professional achievements, Dr. Parker is deeply involved in community and church activities. A lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church, he holds leadership roles including President of the United Methodist Men, sings in the choir, serves as worship leader and serves on the board of the Scarritt Bennett Center.

Dr. Parker is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. Married to Nicole, they are proud parents of two children.

Marlon Peace was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He was raised by his mother, Sandra L. Peace, from whom he learned about helping others at an early age. Sandra was a member of the River City (TN) Chapter of The Links, Inc., After his mother’s passing, Marlon’s aunt, Shirley Cobbins, took on the role of his guardian. He volunteered with The National Civil Rights Museum, Camp Livitup, and other community organizations. While he was enrolled in college, he participated in the Student Government Association where he helped to engage others in providing an enjoyable atmosphere for students.

Later when he entered the work force, he found a great mentor in Ruby Bright, former chapter president of the Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Inc., who always expounded on the importance of community work and how it plays a role in bringing happiness to the community. Even now, whether it be a food drive, fundraiser, or an event for awareness, helping the community will always be an important factor in his life.

Dr. William Terrell was the valedictorian of his high school class and graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana and Meharry Medical School. He was awarded a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin’s program in Chemistry. He also serves as a Navy corpsman, Air Force missile officer, and Navy instructor. He later became the first black resident to train at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Since then, his work has been in pediatrics, mentoring youth and serving on various social action committees His activities in mentoring and social action including 40 years with the incarcerated youth in Shelby County.

William has a fulfilling and productive life, always with his wife, Annie Belle, and together they had three children.

Darrell K. Thomas, Thomas, a native Memphian and graduate of Christian Brothers University, received his degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology. Over thirty years ago, Mr. Thomas founded Thomas Consultants, Inc. and provides Information Technology Solutions.

Serving as its CEO, Mr. Thomas has successfully become one of Memphis’ influential African American Community Leaders.

Among Mr. Thomas’ numerous community associations and philanthropy, he is on the Board of Directors of South Central Conference Seventh Day Adventist; founder and former Board of Directors member of Landmark Community Bank; Board of Directors Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority; Church Elder/ Treasurer/Musician of Breath of Life SDA Church; and a Volunteer Probation Officer for Shelby County Juvenile Court. Mr. Thomas is married to La Tina Epps Thomas, ND, a Naturopathic Doctor, writer, speaker, and member of the Memphis (TN) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.

Mack Tuggle, Tuggle an accounting graduate from Alcorn State University (ASU), joined Brandon, Smith and Jones, CPAs after graduation, passing the CPA exam. He’s the seventh son of Arthur and Annie Tuggle from Coffeeville, Mississippi. With over 30 years of experience, Mack served as a CPA and advisor, including roles at the Department of Justice and the Memphis Housing Authority.

Currently, he’s managing partner at Jones and Tuggle, PLLC. Mack is active in professional organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of CPAs, and CPAConnect. Mack holds licenses in multiple states, including Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, and the District of Columbia. He’s recognized as one of the Tri-State Defender’s Men of Excellence. Community service is integral; he’s president of the local ASU National Alumni Association chapter, holding roles in various boards including Parkway Gardens United Community, Inc. He’s served as president for The Memphians and treasurer for The Memphians Foundation, Inc. Married to Sherila JonesTuggle for 37 years, they have two sons. Mack is deeply involved in Parkway Gardens United Presbyterian Church, holding multiple leadership roles. Sherila, also a CPA and partner at Jones and Tuggle, PLLC, is active in the Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Bishop William S. Wright Sr. is a native Memphian and third generation member of the Church of God in Christ. He organized the Liberty Church in 1990 with 4 members, since that time the ministry has grown tremendously under his leadership with two locations of 730 active members. Under Bishop Wright’s leadership, several properties have been purchased with a total net worth of over $2.5 million dollars.

Bishop Wright has maintained a radio broadcast since Oct. 6, 1990 and can be heard on WBBP 1480am Memphis, TN @ 3:45pm Monday thru Friday. Since July 1995 he has maintained a television broadcast. In the tri-state region, he can be seen on Newport Media Network WATN 24 and on Good News TV Channel 23.

Under Bishop Wright’s leadership the Liberty Church now consists of over 28 ministries and auxiliaries, 4 Sunday Worship services, and two mid-week bible studies.

Bishop Wright also serves as the Prelate of the Tennessee Southwest Jurisdiction. He and his wife Debrah are the proud parents of a daughter, Kenitra Wright, and a son, the late William S. Wright Jr.

Reginald S. Boyce is a graduate of Lane College. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Memphis Theological Seminary and continued his education to receive his Doctor of Divinity. He is now the Senior Pastor at Riverside Missionary Baptist Church. Recently, he was selected as an assistant to Mayor Paul Young and the Director of Community Affairs for the City of Memphis.

Pastor Boyce is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He and his wife Crystal, are the proud parents of four daughters.

Jesse Chism is a State Representative for Memphis, representing House District 85. Jesse is a native Tennessean who has worked both in non-profits and as a classroom teacher. He is also currently a real estate investor who rehabs houses and provides affordable housing to families in need. Rep. Chism received a B.S. in Business Administration from Morehouse College with a focus in Marketing and Economics. Since being elected into office of State Representative, Rep. Chism currently serves as Vice Chair of the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators. This experience and training has given him a deep appreciation for public service and a heart to help others. Representative Jesse Chism lives by his family motto: “Service Above Self”.

James Cole, Jr. is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Jasco Group, a multidimensional investment management firm based in New York City. He is also currently a Director and Chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee of American International Group (AIG). James is also the Founder and President of Jasco Philanthropies, whose mission is to educate, empower, and promote Black and Brown people.

James is a former U.S. Delegated Deputy Secretary of Education and General Counsel under President Barack Obama, where he led the Department of Education’s work on the My Brother’s Keeper initiative. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, James was a partner in the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York City.

James has served on the boards of directors of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Jumpstart for Children, Prep for Prep, the National Student Legal Defense Network, and Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow.

Michael Graham serves as the Managing Director of Operations Planning and Engineering for the Southeast region with FedEx Express.

After graduating from Central High School, he went on to earn degrees from Morehouse College, Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and the University of Denver.

In his current role, Michael’s engineering teams provide timely, least-cost, actionable operating plans for 35 US domestic markets within 7 Southeast Districts located in Memphis, Houston, New Orleans, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, and Charlotte. Michael is currently a member of New Direction Collierville, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and has a standing volunteer relationship with Cromwell Elementary.

Thomas E. Long retired from the City Court Clerk’s Office in the City of Memphis. As the City Court Clerk, he was responsible for the docket and minute books of the three Municipal Courts and the collection of traffic fines and forfeitures for the City of Memphis.

Since that time, he has remained active in the community providing financial services to private and governmental agencies.

Mr. Long volunteers his time and talents to many civic and service organizations: Chairman of Central District, Chickasaw Council 558, Boy Scouts of America Vice President of Scout Reach; Executive Board of the Chickasaw Council; BSA Council Annual Banquet Chairman; Council Silver Beaver Committee Chairman; Served on two Scout Executive Selection Committees; Chairman of Memphis Area Neighborhood Development Corporation; Whitehaven YMCA Vice President; Instructor at Southwest Community College. He has a degree in Accounting from Tennessee State University. Mr. Long and his wife, Valerie, have three children and three grandchildren.

John Keith Perry is a Trial Attorney who also specializes in Criminal Defense, Personal Injury and Civil Rights Litigation. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the University of Mississippi School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar Association, the Desoto County Bar Association, and the Magnolia Bar Association.

Attorney Perry has distinguished Representations and Positions as Municipal court Judge – Town of Coldwater, Mississippi, Federal Criminal Justice Act Panel in the Western District of Tennessee and the Northern District of Mississippi and as the Tunica County Board of Supervisors Attorney.

Attorney Perry is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, Iota Beta Chapter and a Charter Member of the Desoto County Chapter, where he has been recognized as Omega Man. Attorney Perry is also a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity – Gamma Nu Chapter. he is married to Attorney Tameka Perry, and has one child.

Jevonte C. Porter, Sr., Sr., a proud Memphian, is a dynamic young professional with a passion for impacting his community. Jevonte is an alumnus of Melrose High School where he graduated as Valedictorian.

He also graduated from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Jevonte began his career as a Community Development Analyst for the City of Memphis working to develop communication strategies to enhance information flow and citizen participation. Currently, he serves as the Assistant Director of Community Relations at Youth Villages. Moses Andre Swauncy, MD is a proud native of Memphis Tennessee and a graduate of Central High School. He graduated from Morehouse College and Meharry Medical College. He did residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Huntsville Alabama. He is double board certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He is currently the medical director at Sperohealth and for Signature Health & Wellness.

Dr. Swauncy is also an active board member with Carpe Artista, which is an non-profit arts education organization serving Middle Tennessee. Dr. Swauncy resides in Nashville and enjoys traveling, live music and attending Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators games.

Richard D. Watkins is a native Memphian with degrees from Morehouse College and Georgetown University Law Center. He has practiced law in the areas of intellectual property and contract law in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Memphis. He is a Sr. Principal Legal Counsel with Medtronic. He is a lifelong supporter of the Morehouse College Alumni Association and currently serves as Board President of the Lynching Sites Project of Memphis. Richard also serves on the Board of the Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation based in Washington, D.C. Richard enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, bow hunting, cycling, and listening to live music.

Richard is married to Rev. Ayanna Watkins, Executive Director of Memphis Interfaith Coalition for Action and Hope. They are the proud parents of two daughters.

Jesse L. Westbrook, D.D.S., D.D.S., a native Memphian, is a product of the Shelby County School System. He graduated with honors from Barret’s Chapel High School, Tennessee State University, and Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry. A veteran, Dr. Westbrook completed a General Practice Residency as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corps. He returned to Memphis and established his dental office in 1978.

If you were to ask Dr. Westbrook what he enjoys most in life, he would say, spending quality time with his grandchildren and mentoring young people. Over the past 40 plus years, Dr. Westbrook has been active in several civic, social and community organizations. He is past president of The Shelby County Dental Society, Pan-Tennessee Dental Association and the Delta Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is a life member of the NAACP and served as the Dental Representative for more than 10 years. He is also a member of The National Dental Association, The American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association and The Memphis Dental Society. He has been honored as a distinguished alumni of Tennessee State University.

Dr. Westbrook and his wife, Dorothy have three children and eleven grandchildren. His wife Dorothy and his daughter, Jesyca, are members of Shelby County (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Dr. Westbrook’s wife served as a Past President of the Chapter.

Paul Young was recently elected as the Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and has received a Master of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis.

He previously led both the Downtown Memphis Commission and the City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community Development and believes that the key to taking Memphis to the next level is through strategic investments in public safety, infrastructure, and, above all, its people. Mayor Young and his wife, Dr. Jamila Smith Young, are proud parents of two children.

16-year-old, Ruthie Akin, Daughter of Molly and Nat Akin, Ruthie attends Harding Academy. As a Dancer, Ruthie wants to invite people to feel new emotions. Dance is an art form and is never truly mastered. As Ruthie has spent countless hours of her youth in the studio, it made it a safe space to explore, experience, and express her emotions. Ruthie hopes to give that opportunity back to the audience, no matter how big or small it may be.

16-year-old, Kai Elizabeth Wall, Daughter of Kamika Wall and Jerry Wall II, attends Olive Branch High School. Kai has been a dancer for 13 years; dance makes Kai feel alive and it gives her the freedom to explore her emotions artistically and her skills for a professional career. Kai’s favorite styles of dance are modern, ballet, and jazz.

16-year-old, Zoe Myers, Myers Daughter of Michaela and Rodney Myers, attends Houston High School. Zoe began dancing at the age of 3, Zoe is currently enrolled in ballet, jazz, and tap classes.

Zoe has danced at Collage Dance Conservatory for 3 years.

17 year old Kaylan Banks-Blackwell joined Collage Dance Collective 9 years ago. She participated in The International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference and serves as the Head Captain of the Memphis East Cheer Squad and earned the All-American award for the past 3 years.

Beyond her pursuits in the performing arts, she enjoys hobbies such as crocheting, painting, and reading. She joined Collage three years ago and has blossomed into a captivating dancer, infusing each performance with her unique flair and dedication to her craft.

16-Year-Old, Hannah Elizabeth Smith, Smith Daughter of April and Harvey Smith; Attends Collierville High School. Hannah’s Dance Journey has spanned 13 years; she has trained for the last 11 years at the Collage Dance Conservatory, where she is a part of the Professional Division. A captivating blend of grace and strength defines her ballet and jazz expressions. Hannah continues to weave her passion into every movement when performing on stage.

Jenae is a very theatrical person, and her acting comes naturally.

18-year-old, Caitlyn Lela Celeste Williams, Daughter of Andrea and Jerry Harris. This is her 6th year as a student At Collage Dance Conservatory, where she learned to execute techniques in the ballet, modern, and jazz styles of dance. Caitlyn has also been enrolled in dance at East High School for 4 years and is a member of her school’s Pom-Pom Squad. Caitlyn plans to continue engaging in dance on some level while in college, and perhaps, beyond.

16-year-old, Baili Alexandria Price, Price Daughter of Lori L. Miller and Wendell Price, Jr. Baili attends Middle Colleg High School. Baili’s love and foundation of dance started at a very young age with Collage Dance Conservatory.

15-year-old, Coree London Ragland, Ragland Daughter of Alicia and Kenneth Thompson, attends East High School. Coree loves and has a strong passion for dance, she enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. Coree wants to be a professional dancer and won’t let anything stop her from achieving her goal.
