Window films are allowing homeowners to enjoy their windows while saving on heating and cooling bills. “Homes being built today have more windows than ever,” says Professional Glass Tinting owner Jay Heffelfinger, and he’s exactly right: homeowners have come to embrace the elegant look and welcoming atmosphere that windows provide. When you live in the Midwest, windows also come with the struggle of extreme temperatures and sunlight. Some people go with blinds to block out the summer sun and attempt to keep their homes cooler, but as Heffelfinger puts it, “Blinds are great for blocking your view and good for collecting dust.” Blinds only work when they’re closed, meaning you spend more time looking at dusty slats than outdoor views. At best, closed blinds just slow down the heat but can’t stop it from entering your home. “Window films stop heat before it ever enters your home,” explains Hefflinger. “The films I use reduce the heat and block 99% of UV light which protects your furniture, artwork, and hardwood floors from sun damage and fading.”
Window films help regulate home temperature while letting in natural light making it a popular alternative to blinds and drapes. Window tinting keeps out summer sun while preventing heat loss in winter, and they are often more affordable too. After saving money on utility bills, people typically see a return on their investment in less than 5 years. It doesn’t hurt that films are easier to clean too!
