Omaha’s 3E Company delivers innovative lighting and electrical solutions for modern lifestyles both at home and at work.

Seeing

the

Light

by James Hoke

Light is everywhere. But it takes experts like 3E to see all the modern lighting and electrical opportunities—and energy efficiencies—that homes and businesses can enjoy. From entirely automated lighting systems, to daylight harvesting techniques, to customized designs. Tim Pruch, 3E’s Corporate Marketing Director, shares his industry perspective with Home Life Style Magazine.

The lighting and electrical industry is seeing exciting changes.

“Lighting technology is becoming far more advanced, which makes for exciting possibilities—but it’s also becoming more technical,” Pruch states. “That’s where we can help. It’s not just about products; it’s about personnel. While we offer a huge inventory of the latest products, we also work personally with everyone to find the best options for their space— whether it’s a large commercial facility or lighting a room. We even have a new interactive showroom to make the whole experience more collaborative.”

Illuminating your lifestyle at home.

“With today’s capabilities, anything is possible within all budgets,” Pruch says. “It’s important for modern homeowners to understand that. We can make a customer’s lighting automatically turn on when they wake up for work. We can enable a customer’s iPad to remotely control their lighting, shades and/or audio system. We can entirely customize a lighting system to fit real lifestyles—while incorporating the right products to save up to a third on energy costs. Anything is possible.” He adds that today’s homeowners can “enjoy a wiser, more comfortable home that works for you, not against you.”

Maximizing energy efficiency at the workplace.

“Cost savings are everywhere,” Pruch points out. “Our Commercial Lighting Team can observe a facility and identify how to best harvest daylight instead of overusing artificial light. We can provide lighting services and occupancy sensors that switch the lights off when nobody’s in the room. But above all, we work with businesses personally to convert a simple space into an amazing user experience,” he says. “That’s what makes us different.”

The future of the industry is happening.

“I was born and raised in Omaha. I’m married with three kids and grandkids. I know the importance of a comfortable life at home and work. And after working for years in this industry, I’m happy to bring that joy to our customers. It’s 3E’s passion,” Pruch says. “To show people new things that can grow and adapt with their current lifestyles, or even streamline their work environment or it’s technology with a human element.”

LET IT

GROW by James Hoke

Canoyer Garden Center brings life to the Midwest by growing an impressive variety of beautiful plants. Kyle Canoyer is an expert on growth, from annuals to perennials, from hanging plants to container plants, from tropical selections to trees and everything under the sun. Any customer who walks into a Canoyer greenhouse is dazzled by a supergarden of choices, yet a personalized approach to customer care. Home Life Style Magazine asks him to share his horticultural knowledge, why the company is growing to add new locations, and the humble beginnings of a family business that’s now in full bloom.

Whether you’re gardening or decorating, it starts with the right people.

“Smart shoppers select the right greenhouse before they even select their plants,” Canoyer states. “They know that this industry is entirely dependent on the right people: veteran growers, designers, horticultural experts and of course, people who are willing to personally help customers. The growth, maintenance, variety and quality of plants—including the pots, fertilizers and proper chemicals necessary—are all traceable to the people who make it happen. Always look at the staff first,” he says.

Variety and quality can coexist.

“We work hard to grow nearly everything here and control a more robust, exciting variety,” he says. “For example, we offer 35 colors of geraniums including seven different shades of red. We grow over 6,000 hanging baskets alone. “From vegetables and edibles to container gardening to the gift shop, we offer everything in one friendly stop. Gardening should be exciting, not cumbersome or difficult,” he points out.

Deep roots. Dazzling growth.

“Decades ago, this all started as a small greenhouse we built beside our house on the family farm,” he says. “It was several miles from the nearest community—which even still, only had a tiny population of 700 people. Yet over time, more and more people traveled the distance because we offered a great selection. Today, my family (including myself, my wife, my brother, my mother and my father) run locations in Papillion as well as in Griswold, Iowa, with a new location opening up in Des Moines (Grimes) that offers a cutting-edge, light-diffusing greenhouse,” he comments. “It’s both humbling and exciting. We’ve gone from a 10 x 20 greenhouse to 180,000 combined square feet of space.”

Keeping the soil in the pots.

“We really focus on perfection,” Canoyer states. I insist on keeping an impeccable greenhouse. The floors are clean and the register clerks are kind the moment you enter or exit. Gardening is exciting, especially when it’s done right. And that starts by treating customers right.”

“Most people understand that parts of a home need to be updated and replaced from time to time,” explains John Johnson, owner and operator of local Omaha business Fireplace by Design, “like the roof, the furnace, appliances, etc.” People tend to forget about the hearth of the home. “Today’s modern fireplaces have evolved from inefficient old school technology to highly efficient, high-functioning assets to your home,” he continues. “It’s becoming a very popular trend to update and replace existing inefficient fireplaces.” Fireplace by Design specializes in working with these customers who are looking to update their existing fireplace features. Johnson finds “customers are pleasantly surprised to learn of the evolution that has created the advanced features and efficient performance of the modern fireplace.” Some can be controlled by a thermostat or remote. It really is remarkable how far today’s fireplace designs have come. Fireplace by Design’s showroom boasts an extensive collection of wood and gas burning models.“We have over 65 units on display available in traditional and contemporary designs,” describes Johnson. “Our knowledgeable staff will help you choose a fireplace to fit your heating needs and design preferences perfectly.” And the best part is Fireplace by De-

sign’s accommodating service extends past by Allyn the showroom: “We Johnson also provide quality, safe installation that meets local building codes,” states Johnson, so you can relax by your fireplace without the fears that usually accompany fire. John Johnson has been working in the industry for over 20 years. Fireplace by Design is owned and operated by Johnson and his family, who have guided the business to be a local industry leader since 2000.
