Thank you for three great years! This month's CAREGiver Margaret received her silver badge for three years’ service at Home Instead York & Ryedale. Margaret is pictured here with Andy.

NHS screening for bowel cancer If bowel cancer is detected at an early stage, it’s easier to treat and there’s a better chance of surviving it. The NHS offers bowel cancer screening to adults registered with a GP in England. All men and women aged 60-74 are invited to carry out a faecal occult blood (FOB) test. Every two years you’ll get a home test kit, which is used to collect tiny stool samples on a special card. The card is then sealed in a hygienic freepost envelope and sent to the screening laboratory. If you’re 75 or over, you can ask for this test by calling the helpline on 0800 707 60 60. More information is available at www.nhs.uk.

Become a ‘Friend Against Scams’ Friends Against Scams is a new campaign developed by the National Trading Scam Teams to combat the £5-10 billion that people lose to scams each year. Home Instead have already been promoting and supporting a Senior Fraud Protection Programme and now Karen our recruiter has also trained as a SCAMChampion and can help you, your friends and community groups become a Friend Against Scams. If you’d like to know more or organise for Karen to present to a group you know then give the office a ring on 01904 690884. You can also have a look at www.friendsagainstscams.org to get more information.
