Busy month of long service awards We’ve had a very busy month of long service awards. Firstly we would like to say a huge congratulations to our CAREGiver Alison (left) who completed 5 years’ service with Home Instead York & Ryedale. Alison got her hands on a gold badge, flowers and a restaurant voucher, here she is pictured with Karen our Recruitment & Retention Manager.

As well as Alison, we had Daphne, Michelle and Joanne, all completing 1 year’s service, and Kelly completing 2 years.

To round off a busy month CAREGiver Gail, (pictured above), celebrated 3 years with Home Instead York & Ryedale. Gail also had another reason to celebrate, she recently got engaged to fiancé Martin, and they are due to tie the knot in September, massive congratulations from us!

Maz and Helen get creative Home Instead York & Ryedale’s CAREGiver Maz, goes to visit her client Helen every Wednesday.

Helen really enjoys art and used to teach it at after-school activity classes at primary schools, she also ran a couple of adult classes per week at home. Helen seems to have taken Maz under her wing, as these impressive pieces are what they have been up to over the last few weeks!

Many thanks to those of you who made it in during PEAQ week. It was great seeing you all, and we hope you enjoyed tucking into the Pick n Mix! The survey results you give are vital in helping us improve going forward and hopefully improving your experience as a CAREGiver.

The PEAQ survey is open until the end of the month so if you, or a client you know hasn’t yet completed the survey, please can you encourage them to do so as soon as possible.

We will get the results later on in the year, when we do we will be sure to keep you all informed.

Exercising cuts risk of depression Exercising for 20 minutes a day cuts the risk of developing depression by one third.

Research has found that meeting the recommended weekly guideline of 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity, such as cycling or brisk walking, could have a huge impact on people. So when it comes to reducing your chances of developing depression, some physical activity is better than none and the more you do the better your chances are of preventing depression developing.

Top 20 Award for Home Instead York The team at York based home care company, Home Instead Senior Care, were delighted to be named as one of the top 20 care providers in the Yorkshire & Humber region by homecare.co.uk. Homecare.co.uk is an independent website which gathers reviews from people who use home care services.

Home Instead General Manager, Daphne Ellis, said, “It is particularly satisfying to know that this award has been based on the feedback of our clients. We are over the moon that the dedication of our team of CAREGivers has been acknowledged in this way.”

New addition to the Dementia Resources Library

Congratulations to CAREGiver Lynn, who last month completed her Care Certficate!

Dancing with Dementia by Christine Bryden is her story of living positively with dementia after she was diagnosed at the age of 46.

She has gone on to challenge almost every stereotype of people with dementia by campaigning for self-advocacy, writing articles and speaking at national conferences.

This book is a vivid account of her experiences of living with dementia, exploring the effects of memory problems, loss of independence, difficulties in communication and the exhaustion of coping with simple tasks.

She describes how, with the support of her husband Paul, she continues to lead an active life nevertheless, and explains how professionals and carers can help.

Dancing with Dementia is a thoughtful exploration of how dementia challenges our ideas of personal identity and of the process of selfdiscovery it can bring about.

Protecting clients against fraud Earlier this month we held our bi-monthly CAREGiver meeting.

Karen our Recruitment & Retention Manager provided the group with a presentation on Senior Fraud Protection – a presentation created to equip our CAREGivers in regard to protecting their clients when it comes to senior fraud within the community.
