Meet Dawit Haile, Gym Manager, Personal Trainer and everyone’s favourite Running Coach

Gym Manager Dawit has been part of the Home House family for over 15 years and originally joined as an ambitious Gym Assistant. We caught up with him about his own personal fitness journey and what it’s like to work at Marylebone’s best-kept secret...

Tell us about how you first became interested in fitness and well-being?

Iwas born and raised in a rural village in Eritrea, East Africa. Growing up in an open space and being from a farming family, everything we did was done manually and involved a lot of physical activity. Transportation was very limited as well, so walking long distances to and from destinations was a regular occurrence. As children we would play lots of outdoor sports such as Shauki, which is very similar to American baseball but with the ball being made up of old fabric, tightly bound together. Mohammed Ali was also a huge role model to me. His dedication to boxing and achievements on the world stage were incredible, yet still he remained humble. That always inspired me.

Nstled within the heart of Marylebone, the fully equipped gym at Home House is a subterranean haven for Members and bedroom guests alike. Located in the basement under the House Bar and Lounge, the boutique gym offers stateof-the-art equipment, in-house personal trainers and weekly classes along a sauna, steam room and relaxation room. With a Full Membership, Members can enjoy the schedule of complimentary workouts throughout the week from running club, yoga and tabata to pilates and strength and conditioning classes. Taking over what would have been the servants quarters when the Grade II listed House was originally built in the 18th Century, Members and guests will discover an original Victorian kitchen in the main gym from over 150 years ago.

Opening Hours

Monday – Friday: 6am – 10pm

Saturday: 8am – 6pm

Sunday and Bank Holidays: 9am – 5pm

Complimentary Induction

If you haven’t visited the gym in a while and it’s feeling a little intimidating, book a complimentary induction where we can show you the correct and safe way to use the equipment before completing a body composition analysis and a cardiovascular fitness test. To book, email gym@homehouse.co.uk

What’s the most important advice you can offer someone who would like to improve their fitness?

In terms of fitness advice, I’d say improving fitness comes from different aspects of life. Consider a balanced nutrition plan and approach your training with a full body workout method, i.e. from cardio vascular training to weightlifting – combining these together in a single session can bring improved results. But most importantly, enjoy what you do, push yourself within your own limits, keep a positive state of mind, and get great results to stay fitter and healthier for longer.

What’s new at the Gym for 2023?

We’re very pleased to welcome a new Fitness Coach to the team and wishing a very warm welcome to Sherry. Coming up, we’ll soon be introducing our new House Nutritionist who will be able to advise on optimising your nutrition. Watch this space. We’ve recently added a range of new classes to the schedule including an invigorating and mindful lunchtime yoga class with Nicola to improve flexibility and strength, Legs, Bums and Tums with Sherry and an intensive Metabolic Conditioning class with Kieran to increase lean muscle mass and improve the efficiency of the body. Plus, Members and guests can join one of our trainers each month in the Front Parlour and Eating Room each month for a weekend class followed by a team brunch.
