Cultural Agenda Exhibitions, Concerts, Lectures and Book Launches along the Costa del Sol Warhol Exhibition at Guggenheim

Spanish premiere of Pollock Mural

LEGENDARY MURAL BY JACKSON POLLOCK Considered by many experts to be the most important painting in US modern art, Jackson Pollock’s Mural will be on show at Museo Picasso Málaga from 1 April to 11 September. This is the first time, “and perhaps the last” according to then museum, that the mural (which measures six metres wide by almost 2.5 metres high) will be shown in Spain. The artwork is the largest painted by Pollock, and represented a turning point in his career, entailing an evolution from figurative painting to abstract expressionism. www.museopicassomalaga.org

SHADOWS BY ANDY WARHOL The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is exhibiting Shadows (1977-78) by Andy Warhol until 2 October, 102 large-format, silk-screened panels that reflect some of the artist’s explorations with abstraction.” Far from replicas,” explain the organisers, “each Shadow corresponds to a form that reveals its space with precision and selfawareness, directing the spectator’s gaze to light, the central subject of the series. By focusing on the shadow to devise light as sparks of colour, Warhol returns to the quintessential problem of art: perception. As he asserted, ‘When I look at things, I always see the space they occupy. I always want the space to reappear, to make a comeback, because it’s lost space when there’s something in it.’” www.guggenheim-bilbao.org
