A PARENTS GUIDE TO

Getting Involved & Giving

Welcome Dear Parents, Holy Child is much more than just a school. It’s a community of young women ready to explore a world of possibilities. The all-female environment provides a compassionate, joyful, and rigorous experience that prepares students for success in college and beyond. Our school’s motto is “Actions Not Words,” and we believe every member of our community plays a critical role in empowering each student to develop her own gifts and talents. Through your support, we are able to build a foundation for young women to make a difference in a challenging and ever-changing world. We are deeply grateful for the multitude of ways our parent-body supports this mission through gifts of their time, talent, and treasure. I hope this guide informs you and inspires you to get involved! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you have any questions. We hope to see you on campus soon! Actions Not Words, Dr. Shannon Gomez, Head of School

Holy Chil Parents’ Association OVERVIEW

Educating young women of faith and action requires a partnership between teachers, school administration, and parents. The Holy Child Parents’ Association (HCPA) works in concert with the school to strengthen this partnership. We appreciate every parent’s time and talent in enriching the life of our school. The HCPA is a parent resource for families throughout the year and we encourage your participation in the many events and activities organized by the HCPA. We hope you will attend one of our parent coffees, volunteer on a committee, or attend one of our social events. For more information, please visit: https://www.holychild.org/hcpawelcome

FAQ AB OU T G I VI NG WHAT IS THE FUND FOR HOLY CHILD? The Fund for Holy Child is money given to support the school’s operating expenses during a given fiscal year. Holy Child’s fiscal year is July 1 – June 30. Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of providing a Holy Child education. Gifts to the Fund for Holy Child make up the difference between tuition income and the actual expense of running the school. Many schools refer to this difference as their “tuition gap” or “tuition shortfall”. The Fund’s practical equivalent is a checking account that helps the school accomplish its daily work. WHAT IS A LEADERSHIP GIFT? Leadership gifts are large donations that set the pace for giving at an early stage of an annual giving campaign – although they may arrive at any time. Gifts of $1,500+ are considered leadership level at Holy Child. WHAT IS THE MAYFIELD SOCIETY? The Mayfield Society serves as a cornerstone of financial support for Holy Child. Gifts from Mayfield Society members at the $5,000+ level* to the Fund for Holy Child provide resources that enhance student experience through new technology, faculty professional development, and experiential learning.

HOW MUCH DOES HOLY CHILD EXPECT ME TO GIVE AND WHY DOES MY PARTICIPATION MATTER? Gifts of all levels make a difference, and we hope each family makes a gift that is meaningful to them. High participation in giving also has an impact on gifts from outside sources; most foundations consider parent participation rates before donating funds to a school. We are proud to share that on an annual basis 100% of our Board, Faculty, and Staff make gifts to the Fund. WHY GIVE TO THE FUND FOR HOLY CHILD WHEN MY FAMILY IS ALREADY PAYING TUITION? Gifts are necessary because tuition doesn’t cover all the opportunities your student receives. While your daughter is in school, gifts to the Fund translate into more personal attention and increased intellectual stimulation. Donations enable us to make up the 10% difference so we can recruit and retain talented teachers, offer small classes, provide instructional resources, upgrade educational technology, and make accommodations for unique learning styles. Gifts are necessary because tuition covers only 90% of the opportunities your student receives. MAY I DIRECT MY GIFT TO A SPECIFIC NEED? Gifts to the Fund for Holy Child are unrestricted and may be designated to an area within the operating budget including financial aid/scholarship, innovative curriculum, faculty professional development, athletics, visual and performing arts, faith and service, and diversity, equity and inclusion. If contributions to a designated area exceed their budgeted limit, Holy Child will direct gifts to the area of greatest need.
