True to the previous years’ themes of Building Together and Growing Together, this year we did it Better Together!
Our Team’s dedication to sustainable empowerment and development has been evident in every project we have undertaken, leaving fond memories in the hearts and lives we’ve touched.
The highlight of the year was our largest donation to the healthcare sector to date: a R10 million contribution to the KwaZulu-Natal Children’s Hospital. This will go towards the creation of a 15-bed in-patient ward designed specifically for female adolescents with psychiatric needs.
Our commitment to healthcare was solidified by further investments in paediatric health support to the value of R1.2 million. One of our primary objectives has been to address
the water shortage in various communities in Limpopo through The Borehole Project. An investment of over R1.3 million was made towards 9 boreholes, 42 JoJo tanks and 536 water barrows in an effort to provide sustainable water supply to improve living conditions in areas with waterborne diseases.
For our annual Back to School campaign, we pledged R8 million , assisting 303 schools and 67 275 beneficiaries. This campaign has expanded tremendously and brought in more likeminded partners, continuing to provide support to parents and children at the start of the new academic year.
Demonstrating our commitment to further education and training, we invested in the future leaders, which include our very own Team Members, with the ongoing Future is Bright Bursary Programme.
In total, the programme gave 234 students a life-changing opportunity to fund their tertiary education and realise their dreams. The Hollywood Foundation has also been a consistent supporter of the South African Jockey Academy (SAJA), awarding 12 bursaries to apprentices to enable career aspirations. This collaboration since 2019 has supported 23 apprentices, with 11 qualifying as Professional Jockeys. Our
flagship Bambelela Business Awards initiative, aimed at boosting small businesses, expanded to Gauteng and Limpopo in addition to KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Western Cape. R750 000 was invested in each region to boost small businesses in the community with the aim of creating long-term employment opportunities.
This year, our Foundation projects supported 872 community organisations, 149 SMMEs and 196 sports development initiatives, changing the lives of 266 630 recipients. We extend our gratitude to our Purple Team for their hard work, and to our partners and communities for their loyal support of our projects.
These contributions have been invaluable, and we are excited for what lies ahead, knowing that together we are determined to make an even greater impact in the future.
In the true spirit of Ubuntu, let us continue to unite in our mission to make positive and sustainable change, guided by the belief that we are truly Better Together.
Central to our mission is the removal of financial barriers and ensuring that deserving individuals have equitable access to quality education. The Future is Bright Bursary Programme stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity that embodies a steadfast commitment to transforming lives through education.
Through comprehensive support, including accommodation, and essential resources like laptops, we strive to empower students to unlock their full potential.
For more than six years, we have diligently crafted a comprehensive approach that extends far beyond financial assistance.
Rooted in the belief that education is a fundamental right, our programme is designed to nurture the development of students, fostering academic excellence, and personal and professional growth.
Our programme offers invaluable mentorship, career development opportunities, and psychosocial support. By nurturing talent and providing guidance, we aim to equip our bursary recipients with the and resilience needed to succeed in their chosen fields.
Our commitment extends beyond graduation.
We offer growth opportunities through integration into our graduate programmes, providing valuable work experience and the possibility of full-time employment.
In doing so, we not only invest in individual futures but also drive positive social change, contributing to job creation, skills development, and poverty eradication. As we strive to cultivate excellence and unlock the potential of every aspiring individual, the Future is Bright Bursary Programme stands as a testament to the transformative power of education

Male Recipients 6 4 2
The Hollywood Foundation continues to partner with the Sharks Academy to award bursaries to deserving rugby and soccer players by providing financial relief for their education and athletic pursuits.
Female Recipients
This partnership began in 2019 when Hollywoodbets proudly signed on as an associate sponsor. Together with The Sharks Academy, we aspire to continue shaping brighter futures for South Africa’s youth through education.
Through this bursary programme, we give beneficiaries, such as Phathushedzo Radzilani, a chance to build a life beyond rugby. Phathushedzo is studying towards his third year in a Bachelor of Management in Sport and Leisure.
He said that his commitment to the sport goes beyond the rugby field as he will continue to be part of the game through his education and even after his retirement.
In 2023, the Hollywood Foundation handed over six bursaries to students from The Sharks Academy at an event held at Hollywoodbets’ offices in Umhlanga. The bursary recipients are studying courses in Sports and Leisure Management/ Sport, Recreation and Fitness Management.
In celebration of our second birthday as an offical Foundation, we generously contributed nine laptops worth R240,000 to deserving students across Western Cape, Gauteng, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal between October and December 2023.
Recognising the challenges faced by bursary students who rely on university computer labs for their academic needs, we aimed to alleviate stress and enhance academic focus through this contribution.
This initiative reflects the Purple Team’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to resources for academic success, acknowledging the significant impact of these tools on student outcomes.
By empowering students with laptops, we not only foster improved academic performance but also cultivate a generation of equipped graduates poised to make meaningful contributions to society.
In February 2024, we launched the Rising Stars Graduate Programme to expose our bursary recipients to the working environment and address unemployment in the country. The programme carefully selected 10 talented graduates for a year-long journey spanning various company departments such as Human Resources, Finance, Marketing, Projects, Contact Centre, and the Winning Form Group.
The selection process was rigorous, with over 3 700 applicants undergoing assessments, including video interviews, evaluations, and face-to-face interviews. The Rising Star Programme aspires to become an annual endeavour, supporting the company’s talent pipeline and growth. Paired with mentors, the graduates are receiving corporate exposure and comprehensive training to shape them into future leaders who are deeply rooted in the Hollywood Group’s culture and values.
The initial weeks encompassed induction activities to familiarise the graduates with the company’s culture and essential software skills such as Microsoft Office. Projects were delegated to highlight their abilities and cultivate teamwork, which helped to instil confidence and diverse perspectives within the team.
Metrics and performance indicators have been established to assess the programme’s success. Extra activities, including financial wellness sessions and interactions with Senior Executives, enriched the graduates’ experience and reinforce the company’s ethos. Handovers with various Teams and participation in events, like the Hollywoodbets Amazing Race, also offer tangible exposure and networking opportunities.
As a Foundation, we develop and implement various Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives in education, healthcare, water and sanitation, community development and disaster relief. Bound to our passion for community development, we believe in working together with local organisations to ensure we make a real difference and leave a lasting impact on the lives of the ordinary South Africans we encounter every day.
Identifying the need to invest more in the society we wanted to be part of, the My Community Programme began in 2012 as a way for the Hollywood Group to play an even bigger role in the communities within which we operate. This has allowed us to significantly increase our CSI contributions over the years and culminated in the establishment of our very own non-profit organisation, the Hollywood Foundation, in 2021.
In 2023, the Hollywood Foundation had a monumental year. We worked tirelessly to foster unity, ignite passion, and nurture the well-being of our communities. Looking back on these efforts and the profound impact they have had, we are committed to empowering our communities even further. Together, we have created an enduring Purple imprint that will positively transform lives for years to come.
Building on this groundwork, our education initiatives now encompass early childhood development as well as primary and high school programmes, emphasising quality education and skills development. In healthcare, we support public facilities through public-private partnerships, aiming to enhance service delivery.
Our water and sanitation projects focus on providing access to clean water, improving sanitation facilities and promoting better health and dignity within communities. Our community initiatives target grassroots organisations to strengthen their impact and sustainability.
Lastly, we link our chain to the disaster relief efforts which we take pride in as part of our commitment to restoring hope in times of crisis. Through our holistic approach, the Hollywood Foundation strives to improve lives, restore dignity, and foster social cohesion in communities across South Africa.

Similarly, at Zenzeleni Stimulation Centre, where the challenges seemed endless, our support breathed new life into every corner. From fixing broken lights to
refurbishing the property’s toilets, roofs, windows as well as painting the walls, our impact was evident through every aspect of the centre.
Through our generosity and unwavering dedication, the Hollywood Foundation transforms the physical spaces we encounter and uplifts the spirits of those we touch in order to leave a legacy of warmth, compassion, and enduring change.
Education and training remain our central focus at the Hollywood Foundation. That is why we participate in the Back to School Campaign each year, aiming to support parents and empower learners from diverse communities across South Africa. In 2024, we infused a notable R8 million into the campaign, facilitating the provision of essential supplies such as school uniforms, shoes, and stationery to learners and schools.
We firmly believe that education is the cornerstone of youth empowerment, and the Back to School campaign embodies our commitment to nurturing the next generation. By supplying school essentials, we not only set the stage for academic success but also alleviate the emotional burden on parents, fostering a community where education serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity.
To support our efforts, we collaborate with a diverse array of partners every year. For this year’s campaign, partners included our Hollywoodbets Brand Ambassadors, non-profit organisations and sports clubs alongside mainstream and community radio stations.
We also had renowned personalities and musicians Khuli Chana, Big Zulu & Sjava, Mr. Thela as well as Hollywoodbets Sharks and Springbok rugby player, Makazole Mampimpi join us on our missions.
This collective endeavour aims to expand the campaign’s reach and to make a positive difference in the lives of learners in the regions where we operate.
The KZN Purple Team brought a spell of joy to Baqaqe Primary School in Eshowe in January as we kicked off the year in style. The school, with roots tracing back to 1957, initially served as a training ground for teachers and was the nominated school of three Hollywoodbets departments, namely Projects, Maintenance, and Health & Safety.
Anticipation reached a fever pitch as learners and teachers eagerly welcomed the Purple Family to their school grounds. The day’s highlight came when learners received brand-new pairs of school shoes to start the 2024 academic year on the right foot. We also generously contributed stationery to the school.
We also visited Waterloo Secondary School and Redcliffe Primary School in Verulam, Durban. In our commitment to fostering education and empowerment at schools, we made a heartfelt visit to Sidelile High School in Magabheni to bring hope. This institution was established in 1979 and it stands as a beacon of education with an enrolment exceeding 1 500 learners. Despite its admirable mission, Sidelile High School faces challenges, grappling with vandalism, inoperable toilets, and a shortage of essential resources such as computers and office equipment.
Recognising the potential within these halls of learning, we acted by contributing essential supplies. Reams of paper and scientific calculators were generously provided to support the learners in their academic pursuits. The school was nominated for this contribution by the Hollywoodbets Client Liaison Department. In our pursuit to make a profound impact on lives across the nation, the Team had the privilege of visiting Mbanjwa Primary School in Sweetwaters. Established in 1966 by local preachers, the school bears the name of one of its founding benefactors,
Mr. Mbanjwa, whose generosity provided the land for its construction. Despite its rich history, Mbanjwa Primary faces significant challenges, notably overcrowding due to a shortage of classrooms. The Grade 7 class, for instance, accommodates 79 learners in a single room. Principal Mr. Gasa shared that this year marks the school’s highest enrolment yet, with 713 eager learners. The school also lacks proper assembly shelter, and its jungle gym is in disrepair. Moreover, many students hail from underprivileged backgrounds, struggling to afford proper school uniforms. Recognising these pressing needs, we swiftly stepped in, providing school shoes and uniforms for both girls and boys. Mr. Gasa expressed profound gratitude, emphasising the transformative impact of this contribution. He extended heartfelt thanks to the Purple Team for its unwavering support.
Continuing in our mission, the Team then visited Open Gate Special School in Central Pietermaritzburg. Established in 1975, this institution caters to 325 learners with special needs from various parts of KwaZuluNatal. The school’s principal highlighted the urgent requirement for stationery supplies, prompting the Purple Team to arrive with boxes full of exercise books, pencils, brushes, paper reams, rulers, and more, ensuring a fruitful academic year ahead. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mr. Pillay and the school staff expressed their profound joy and appreciation. They expressed deep thanks for the Hollywood Foundation’s kindness in addressing their most critical needs.

We delivered a message of hope through a generous contribution of school uniforms, reflecting Temudzani’s personal journey and his determination to give back to his community. The TV star expressed heartfelt sentiments about returning to his home village and contributing to the very school where he once walked the halls. He shared that the visit evoked fond memories of his childhood, highlighting the challenges he faced due to poverty.

In the North West province, our collaboration with hip-hop superstar Khuli Chana, through his Khuli Chana Foundation, brought essential school shoes to enthusiastic learners in Mahikeng and Klerksdorp. Through such partnerships, we alleviate the financial burden on parents and empower learners as they embark on the new school year.
The rapper’s words of motivation resonated deeply with the learners, emphasising the transformative power of education and the importance of respect for educators and peers. As a mentor to the youth, Khuli Chana pledged his unwavering support to ensure they have the necessary resources to pursue their dreams and excel academically.
These initiatives are part of the Khuli Chana Foundation’s broader commitment to supporting over 400 learners a year, ensuring that the lack of school shoes does not hinder learning in primary schools across Gauteng and the North West.
In August 2023, the Hollywood Foundation kicked off a transformative CSI project, partnering with Eluthandweni Maternity Clinic in Vosloorus, Gauteng. The clinic, established in 1990, provides accessible and high-quality maternity care to the local community. Facing challenges due to outdated facilities, the clinic received a generous contribution from the Hollywood Foundation to refurbish its infrastructure.
The refurbished clinic now offers improved facilities, enabling better care
for expectant mothers and families. With expanded capacity, the clinic can serve more individuals, reducing the need for long-distance travel for essential care.
The CSI handover ceremony was marked by joy and gratitude, with local women’s musical performances adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Nonina Diphko, the clinic’s founder, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Hollywood Foundation’s contribution, which means they expect more patients because of improved working conditions.
One of the Hollywood Foundation’s latest initiative includes a partnership with Reach For a Dream and their Dream Room project at the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial and Witbank Hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
These innovative spaces are set to make a positive impact on the lives of young patients and their families. The funding covers a complete transformation of the original space as well as a revitalisation of the outdoor area, and the provision of essential shade for the children’s play area.
The Dream Rooms in each hospital carry a distinctive Hollywood Foundation influence and are tailored to meet the specific needs of the hospital while reflecting the Foundation’s values. The facilities are a long-term commitment, with a three-year contract and a two-year maintenance allocation, ensuring high standards are maintained.
“The management for the Dream Rooms has been entrusted to Reach for a Dream staff, volunteers, and partner organisations, all bound by Memorandums of Understanding with the hospitals. The two new Dream Rooms also add to the Reach for a Dream’s remarkable count of 52 Dream Rooms in public hospitals across the country, supporting Reach For A Dream’s goal of establishing 70 Dream Rooms by 2026.
Reach For a Dream Regional Manager Kerry Donkin said:
Reach For A Dream for 35 years has been inspiring hope in children between the ages of 3 and 18 years who are diagnosed with life threatening illnesses, through the power of a dream. Each day we aspire to be the catalyst of hope for these incredibly courageous young warriors. We are so grateful to the Hollywood Foundation who came on board to partner with us in building a Dream Room at Prince Mshiyeni hospital and Witbank Hospital. In honour of World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2023, the Hollywood Foundation announced its substantial contribution of R10 million towards the renovation of the KwaZulu-Natal Children’s Hospital. This notable grant will be dedicated to the creation of a state-of-the-art 15-bed Mental Health ward, catering specifically to adolescent girls.
World Mental Health Day serves as an important reminder of the significance of mental health and the necessity for comprehensive mental health care for all. The theme for 2023 was “Mental health is a universal human right.”
“Taryn Millar, Chief Executive Officer of the KZN Children’s Hospital Trust, noted the hospital’s thanks and excitement towards the crucial aid: In KZN, where there are only 10 child and adolescent psychiatric beds, the restoration of the female adolescent psychiatric ward will mean we can now care for an additional 15 young patients. Our deepest gratitude goes to the Hollywood Foundation for their unwavering support. We look forward to working together in partnership for our children.
“This theme underscores the importance of promoting mental well-being for all, recognising it as an essential part of the human experience.

The Foundation, BET Software and Velabahleke High School’s dynamic partnership began seven years ago.
It marked a tech milestone, because it helped the school’s learners in Umlazi, Durban, step into the age of smart living with tech devices from BET Software. The handover of 15 laptops along with
15 keyboard and mouse combos, plus an inverter, this year, sparked a wave of positive impact. This contribution continues to guide and empower learners through access to technology and education. Giving back is not just a checkbox, it’s engrained in Team Members’ DNA.
As part of its commitment to fostering digital literacy and empowering the next generation, The Foundation and BET Software assisted St Martin De Porres Comprehensive School in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu Natal.
The special needs school, for learners with hearing and visual impairments, as well as those living with Autism, had expressed a need for laptops to help them with IT, and sign language.
The Team put their hands up and donated state-of-the-art equipment such as 15 laptops, 15 keyboard and mouse combos, as well as an inverter. Five of the laptops were donated to the school’s top performing IT Matriculants, encouraging them to become the school’s tech ambassadors.
This equipment bridges the digital divide, and learners now have the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
Access to technology has become paramount for educational success, and it’s this that encouraged The Foundation and BET Software to take on new school beneficiaries, like Kenneth Masekela Secondary School, in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.
The school was the top performing in Kwa-Thema for the 2023 final Matric exams, but its outdated tech equipment
posed a challenge for learners, and so, BET Software and The Foundation stepped in to provide the school with 15 laptops, 15 keyboard and mouse combos, as well as an inverter. Tech dreams took flight, and the tech devices continue helping learners excel in their academic pursuits.
Together, The Foundation and BET Software ignited possibilities and nurtured innovation in young minds at Mzuvele High School, in KwaMashu, Durban.
The handover of 15 laptops, 15 keyboard and mouse combos, along with an inverter, helped make a meaningful difference in the lives of learners, motivating them to become tech savvy and equipping them with the tech skills they need to thrive in
this digital era. The tech gear also helped the school introduce much needed subjects like coding and robotics.
Teaming up with BET Software, The Foundation helped little angels at Ngilosi Primary School, spread their tech wings, as part of its annual Back to School campaign donation.
The school, in Umlazi Durban, already had a robotics class, but could only cater for 20 learners, which limited access for other learners. The contribution of laptops, wireless mouses and an antivirus package has enhanced lessons, and more learners are now involved in classes, helping them embrace the digital revolution.
To celebrate its 103rd birthday, The Foundation and BET Software gifted special needs learners at Open Air School in Glenwood, Durban, with laptops, keyboard and mouse combos, an inverter, as well as a Braille One device.
The school for differently-abled learners, has over the years been able to educate physically challenged learners, most of which come from impoverished
backgrounds, and empower them to become independent, well-adjusted people. This, through BET Software’s continued support, in the form of technical learning aides and IT assisted devices.
The tech gear ensures learners continue smashing stereotypes and shifting paradigms. It’s safe to say the future of tech is in good hands.
COSAT, in Khayelitsha, Western Cape, was the first of three STEM schools in the province, and the handover of laptops, keyboard and mouse combos, as well as an inverter, by The Foundation and BET Software, has helped the school continue surpassing tech expectations.
It also motivated learners from this underserved community to become ambassadors of the tech revolution. They can now navigate the digital atmosphere responsibly with these tech devices.
Following the devastating floods in KwaZulu-Natal in April 2022, we launched the #HANDSOFHOPE campaign, providing swift relief to vulnerable communities.
The floods damaged infrastructure, leaving schools in a poor state of function. In response, a second phase of the campaign was initiated to repair and rebuild affected areas. Partnering with Ukhozi FM, the Hollywood Foundation pledged R1 million to the #UkhoziLuyanakekela CSI programme. Sakhesethu Primary School was among the beneficiaries, receiving a newly painted exterior, new windows, and pre-loved furniture for the staff room and library.

We offered support, comfort and solace during a time of immense hardship. The handover ceremony, attended by dedicated Team Members from both organisations alongside ward committee members from Reservoir Hills, underscored the power of unity and solidarity in times of crisis.
Our pledge of R50 000 to the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) signified a crucial step in supporting frontline efforts to combat the Western Cape’s wildfire crisis. By providing fuel, we were able to empower firefighters to tackle blazes swiftly and effectively, protecting vulnerable communities. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s commitment to swift action and community resilience in times of crisis. Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Vuyisile Ngobese highlighted the importance of collective solidarity in addressing such challenges. Jenny Scheffers, CMO of VWS, acknowledged the significance of the contribution in boosting capabilities and aiding in the region’s recovery.

Relief efforts included the distribution of essential supplies such as food parcels, toiletry hampers, and cooked meals, providing vital support to impacted communities during their time of crisis.
In a heartfelt drive, we shared the spirit of Ubuntu with those less fortunate during October, which is also the anniversary of the Hollywood Foundation’s inception.
Recognising homelessness as an issue that tugs at the root of every individual and stems from various factors like unemployment, poverty, and mental health struggles, the Purple Team embarked on a nationwide campaign titled “Shining the Spotlight on Homelessness”. Our initiative sought to shed light on the significance of mental health awareness
among the homeless community, striving to integrate them into society with dignity and respect. Led by the CSI Team, the project aimed to address holistic needs and foster self-development among homeless people.
Throughout the month, our Team dedicated their time and resources to make a tangible impact. Through pop-up stores, warm clothing distribution, and nourishing meals provision, we aimed to uplift spirits and instil hope in those facing adversity.
Mandela Day 2023 saw the Purple Team spread hope and compassion across South Africa through a series of impactful initiatives. In KwaZulu-Natal, we joined hands with Enduduzweni Community Care Centre and Vulamehlo Hospice. Enduduzweni Community Care Centre and its staff offer psycho-social support to children and adults in the form of nutritious meals, food parcels, clothing, academic support, as well as educational and developmental programmes and skills support for orphans and vulnerable children.
Vulamehlo provides hospice services to terminally ill patients in the iLembe District. Both organisations have the best interests of the community at heart, despite many hardships and obstacles.
As part of empowering communities, the Team of Purple Hearts gathered and paid a special visit to the organisations, alongside the BET Software Team and Hollywood Foundation Brand Ambassador, Keshav Maharaj. In addition to contributing muchneeded items, the Team worked together to ensure that the children and the elderly have a fun-filled day through various activities such as face painting, preparing warm meals, assisting with making beds and painting the premises.
The Foundation Team in Gauteng uplifted Fountain of Love, a haven for orphaned children. As part of our 67 minutes for Mandela Day, we eased the daily struggles experienced by staff. The Team contributed several essential items to the organisation, including a freezer, a washing
machine, office equipment and clothes. The Team also helped to prepare some warm meals and presented the founder of the organisation, Gogo Rosy, with a customised cake to celebrate her birthday and commemorate her selfless dedication towards the children. In Mpumalanga, we extended our support to Ethembeni Children’s Haven and Gugulethu St Benedict’s Home for the Aged to spread the message of Ubuntu for Mandela Day.
Ethembeni Children’s Haven prioritises the needs and well-being of children, by ensuring that they are provided with shelter and a warm plate of food. St Benedict’s Home for the Aged offers permanent shelter and food to the elderly. We lent a hand of support to these two organisations, through a contribution that included a generator, blankets and food.
Finally, in the North West, we honoured the elderly at Wolmaransstad Hospice Centre, recognising their invaluable contributions to society. The organisation prioritises the health and well-being of the elderly, who require specialised care and support daily. The Team helped to clean the premises, and assisted with the preparation of a warm, hearty meal. Essential items, such as blankets, gas stoves and mattresses were also given to Wolmaransstad Hospice Centre. We also pampered the elderly by offering hairdressing services, including braiding. Across provinces, the Hollywood Foundation’s Mandela Day endeavours illuminated the power of compassion and unity, demonstrating that together, even the smallest gestures can make a profound difference in the lives of those facing adversity.
The Hollywood Foundation cherishes our special affection for children and many of our programmes are dedicated to prioritising their well-being and education. Our Team works tirelessly to implement various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children. Each year the Hollywood Group, through the Hollywood Foundation, has the privilege of contributing wonderful toys to children, making Christmas a memorable and joyful experience. As an NPO we believe in aligning with organisations that share our vision of bringing hope to communities.
That’s why we collaborate with like-minded organisations such as Rotary International and their various branches. By donating essential items such as a washing machine, 85 blankets, toiletries,
soup, and first aid supplies, we provided much-needed comfort and assistance to the residents. Moreover, delivering the items in person allowed the team to share moments of companionship and warmth with the elderly. Through their actions, the Purple Team exemplified the spirit of Mandela Day by embodying love, compassion, and solidarity with a community that needs support and care the most.
The Purple Team’s commitment to addressing the issue of menstrual hygiene accessibility in schools has had a profound impact on the lives of young girls, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
By organising an annual sanitary pad drive and encouraging Team Members to donate menstrual products, we have taken proactive steps to alleviate the challenges faced by girls who cannot afford sanitary pads.
In 2023, our Team’s efforts benefited Lihlethemba High School in the community of Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal, where the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products often forces girls to miss school during their periods.
Through their contribution, our Purple Team provided essential supplies empowering these girls to continue their education with dignity and confidence.
The festive season is a time for family, friends and celebrations, however, many struggling families and underprivileged communities cannot afford to put food on their tables. Our Purple Team have dedicated themselves to helping feed families during the Festive Season through their annual Bucket Drive, where Team
Members are encouraged to donate items on a carefully constructed grocery list that enables families in need to enjoy the festive season with dignity.

The Hollywood Foundation, in collaboration with the BET Software Team, spread the message of hope over the Easter holidays.
The Purple Team delivered 30 easter Hampers and boxes of easter eggs to Ocean View House, which is home to 22 children.
Animal Care and Treatment Centre:
June usually marks the start of a cold and chilly winter season, and stray animals are usually left to fend for themselves without warmth and comfort.
The Hollywood Foundation, together with the BET Software Team, rallied together to hand over 30 new and gently used blankets to the Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment NPO in Phoenix.
The blankets were collected by the Team of Purple Hearts, who ensured that our furry friends stayed warm in winter. The NPO works hard to assist the community with the feeding of homeless animals; finding forever and foster homes for stray animals; educating the community on how to responsibly care for animals and raising funds to sterilise homeless animals in the community.

In 2023, both Hollywoodbets and Gold Circle helped to ensure that Grooms are recognised and rewarded for the hard work that they do behind the scenes, by investing more into the Grooms Initiative.
The Grooms’ Initiative, powered by Hollywoodbets and Gold Circle, has been increased by 100% with the winning incentive increasing from R1 000 to R 2 000 for the months of April through to August 2023 for all winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville and Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
This joint initiative has seen over R3 million awarded to Grooms since it was launched in September 2019.
Hollywoodbets Brand and Communications Manager, Devin Heffer, believes the welldeserved reward has had a positive impact on the industry and said that, in line with the recent stakes increases, it was important to ensure that the Grooms, along with Trainers, Jockeys and Owners, are also rewarded.
Gold Circle’s Events and Marketing Executive, Stephen Marshall, remarked that the incentive “will see not only our local Grooms, but those from visiting yards rewarded over and above their stakes earnings”.
What happens to racehorses when their racing days are over? In most cases, there is a happy ending in the form of a new chapter: a good home; show jumping; polo or a recreational companion for equine enthusiasts. This includes occupational and rehabilitation therapy for disabled children.
A horse has its own soul and its own personality. It needs to be respected and nurtured. It deserves to be safe and secure. That is why Hollywoodbets is a significant benefactor to The National Horse Trust and to the Coastal Horse Care Unit in KwaZulu-Natal. Focussed on ensuring a happy and safe retirement for all our horses, we feel that we have a greater responsibility to make sure that every majestic animal that races in our colours lives out the rest of its life in contentment.
In mid-2021, a strategic decision was taken to partner with and empower equine
professional, Nicole Wille, in a new private venture known as Life after Racing. We wanted to be sure that every single horse under our ownership would be safely taken off the track and rehabilitated for a new career. This includes both retired and injured horses who cannot be safely returned to racing.
The programme has been an outstanding success. To date, 38 “Hollywood horses” have been nurtured and onward-homed. At the time of writing, there are six equine residents enjoying 5-star treatment before their next adventure!
The programme has expanded and has recently relocated to the Ashburton Training Centre near Pietermaritzburg. The centre provides improved facilities as well as the opportunity to relocate the Hollywood horses already in their pretraining phase, effectively establishing a venue for both before and after racing.
