My Practicum Journey

Acknowledgement

Thank you to Marjorie Cole for such an inspiring and engaging practicum course. It has been a lot of fun and I feel that I have learnt a lot throughout this term. I feel more confident in my observations and reflective practice. The knowledge I have gained helps me to be more present and intentional with my practice, and to see myself as a valuable member of the child care community and the lives of children. I am excited to keep learning more about the amazing work we do as early childhood educators.

My Practicum Journey

This is the story of my learning, My practicum journey so far.

Inspired by a book I discovered,

My learnings each placed in a jar.

Chapter 2: Learning to See

Looking through new eyes,

To seek a new perspective. Enhancing our observations, As we start to be reflective.

Chapter 3: Observing from Children’s Perspectives

too easy to hurry along, Our mind millions of miles away. Missing small details and wonders, That surround us every day.
It’s

Chapter 4: Observing Children’s

Lively Minds

Trying to see the details, That we often forget to see.

Like the colours of a magpie,

Or the leaves blowing in a tree.

Chapter 5: Observing How Children

Senses

Creating opportunities for learning, With sight, touch, taste and sound.
Use
We have many senses to use, To explore all of the wonders around.

Chapter 8: Connecting with the Natural World

Playing outdoors is important,

It teaches us all year round.

From the sky as a natural roof,

To the nature we find on the ground.

Chapter 7: How Children Explore, Invent and Contstruct

Materials and parts that are loose,

Are inspiring to the imagination.

For open-ended beginnings, Are encouraging for children’s exploration.

Chapter 10: Drawing, Symbolic

Representation and Literacy

The wonders we find in a book, And the symbols and pictures we find. Unlock skills in communication, And the power of our very mind.

Being present and more intentional,

And slowing down to take in the day.

I can’t wait to continue my journey, Observing children learn and play.
