2006 in the LIX Legislature of the Mexican Congress. An attorney and politician, she is the only wife of a Mexican president to have served in Congress. The Mexican Consulate held a private International Women’s Day meeting at the North Little Rock City Hall for Arkansas’ Hispanic woman. Consul David Preciado did the introductions giving the former
first lady the opportunity to celebrated the Arkansas’ woman on the international celebration. The Wal-Mart Foundation has donated $1.5 million to a planned family museum to be built near Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The donation will go to
fund a traveling exhibit gallery at the Amazeum, a planned 44,500 square-foot museum in Bentonville. Amazeum executive director Sam Dean says the donation will give the museum a boost to reaching its capital campaign goal of $28.5 mil-
lion. The Amazeum will include interactive exhibits like a Tinkering Studio, water area, climbable tree canopy and an exploratory wet lab. The museum will be built on Northeast J Street near Crystal Bridges, which was created by Alice Walton.

Creators of the SAT exam announced plans to toughen the test in the face of stagnant national scores, planning to challenge students to provide more analysis, cite evidence and even turn in their calculators before answering some math questions. The new version will be first administered in 2016. The SAT is a rite of passage for high school students seeking admission to college. Many, but not all, universities require SAT scores as part of the admissions process. About 1.6 million students take the exam each year, and only 43% of the high school class of 2013 scored high enough to succeed in college, according to a College Board analysis. U.S. students have fallen behind their counterparts in many other developed nations in test results, prompting concerns that the USA is insufficiently preparing young people for competing in a global economy. The freshly overhauled test includes a more challenging essay assignment scored on
the strength of analysis as well as writing. But the score for it will not be part of the final overall test result. Colleges can choose whether to consider it. As a result of this change, the top score for the new SAT will drop from 2100 to 1600. Test scoring also was changed, no longer deducting for an incorrect answer. Points are only added for correct answers. In analyzing reading passages in the exam, students must cite specific passages from extracts of well-known writings to support answers, something not necessary in
the current version. The new test will include science, history or social studies source documents that students will be required to analyze or draw citations from to support answers. Vocabulary included in the revised exam will be words more often used. The math section also is being narrowed as three core areas: understanding how to use ratios, percentages and proportions, linear equations under the hearing “Heart of Algebra,” and a section devoted to more complex equations or functions related to calculus.

Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, part of the group of eight Republicans and Democrats who spent months crafting the Senate bill, implored Obama to halt deportations for relatives of U.S. citizens, legal residents and young people who were brought to the country illegally by family members. “While we continue waiting for the House of Representatives to wake up and move on immigration reform legislation, I urge the president to take action today and halt needless deportations that are splitting apart our families and communities,” the New Jersey senator said. “The current deportation apparatus is an outrage and it’s a tragedy.” In her speech, Murguia pressed the House GOP to act on immigration. “You have had more than enough time to come up with legislation to move reform forward. It is time to stop the political gamesmanship,” she said.

Thins, hoes, weeds, or prunes row crops, fruit trees, or vines, using hand implements. 11. Loads hoppers, containers, or conveyor to feed machine with products, using suction gates, shovel, or pitchfork. 12. Adjusts, repairs, lubricates, and services farm machinery, and notifies supervisor or appropriate personnel when machinery malfunctions. 13. Walks beside or rides on planting machine while inserting plants in planter mechanism at specified intervals. 14. Irrigates soil, using portable pipe or ditch system, and maintains ditch or pipe and pumps. 15. Mixes specified materials or chemicals and dumps solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery. 16. Loads and unloads crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, handtruck, forklift, or transfer auger. 17. Weighs crop-filled containers and records weights and other identifying information. 18. Hand picks fruit, such as apples, oranges, or strawberries. 19. Oversees work crew engaged in planting, weeding, or harvesting activities.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma with at least ten years of experience, OR B.S. degree in agriculture with at least five years of experience. Arkansas Little Rock, AR The University of Arkansas at Little Rock chapter of League of United Latin American Citizens joined a nationwide cause to promote awareness of the need for immigration reform. The students showed their solidarity with the “Fast for Families Across America” bus tour by fasting on March 12. They held a demonstration on the UALR campus March 10. Everybody was invited
to join in the effort UALR student Crystal Alvarez and Dr. Terry Trevino-Richard, LULAC state president and UALR professor. In June 2013, the U.S. Senate passed a comprehensive, bipartisan immigration bill (S.744), but the U.S. House has delayed a final vote on the matter. “As the leaders of Fast for Families passed through Arkansas and make their way to D.C., we wanted them to know we support them,” said Trevino-Richard. “Our UALR LULAC used this period of fasting
to call attention to the need for Congress to address this issue, to contact their congressmen, and to ask other UALR students and faculty to join us in this event,” he said. The bus tour and its leaders said they hope by fasting to follow the examples of Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. Trevino-Richard said the events highlight recent grant funding that is helping current and potential UALR students and other Latinos
in Arkansas.
