New Songdo City is a master planned international business and a prototype mdel of new city expansion and development. New Songdo City is located on the west coast of Korea, and is connected to the new Incheon International Airport by Yeongjong Bridge, and ties to the existing urban context of Incheon. The major transportation links define a central zone of the city, where a denser zone of commercial and mixed-use projects surround a large central park. Within the master-plan of New Songdo City, HOK has been the design architect for four separate mixed use projects. HOK was commissioned by the client, Gale International, to design a series of projects within this urban center. Spanning the length of the northern edge of the

park are Blocks D22, D23, and D24, which are mixed-use development sites of residential and commercial space. At the eastern end of the park is block A2, which is the city’s business district, containing the largest commercial tower, retail mall, and convention center. In addition to these functions, HOK was commissioned to design the Convention Center Hotel residing on block A2. HOK provided architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, conceptual lighting design, and schematic water feature design services for an entire city block composed of residential towers, retail buildings, underground garages, a gallery, as well as podium landscape including interior courtyards, playgrounds, a canal walk, a public square, a permanent installation, a water wall, and streetscape.
