International Business and Management Studies FULL TIME 2014-2015

International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) is an English-taught management study programme focusing on all the major aspects of international business and management.

IBMS prepares students for professional careers in international companies. Based on a combination of elements from the fields of marketing, sales, finance, and management, the programme has a special focus on international trade and commerce.

Do you like to study the differences and opportunities in major global and regional markets? Can you see yourself working at an international company? During this 4 year study programme you will work with classmates from all over the world to develop the knowledge, skills

and attitude needed to be an international manager.

You will also have the opportunity to gain international experience through a placement (abroad), a studyabroad semester at one of our partner universities or a graduation placement at an international company.

Competent in intercultural leadership, analysis, creative problem solving, and planning, IBMS graduates are highly sought after around the world to assume commerical and economic management positions such as: Marketing manager, Sales manager, Logistics manager, Finance and Accounting manager or Human Resources manager.

Rotterdam Education Model To translate the practical, hands-on mentality associated with the city of Rotterdam and the talent development of our students into education, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences has developed a tightly implemented education model. Characteristic of the Rotterdam Education Model (REM) are three learning tracks: knowledge-driven, practice-driven and student-driven education. Basic Subjects In the first and second year of the IBMS programme you cover all the IBMS subjects from the core modules: Finance, Logistics Management, Marketing Management, Organisation Management, Risk Management, Critical Thinking and Economics. Other subjects include Business Communication, Business Law, Research Methods and a second foreign language.

First Year During your first year you will get a clear view of the study programme, its goals, and the professional field.

Case analysis, group discussions and professional literature provide the basis for applying the principles learned. You learn to think like a general manager rather than a marketer, accountant or finance expert.

Next to Business Communication (English), you also study a second language: Spanish, French, Dutch or German.

Main Phase The second year combines in-depth international business subjects with electives relating to your chosen field of study. You will learn to think strategically and receive training in communication, negotiation and leadership skills. The third year starts with a placement period at a company or organization in the Netherlands or abroad, after which you will follow the regular IBMS programme.

The fourth year comprises a one-semester study-abroad period or a minor programme, and a graduation placement researching a business-related problem for a company.

Profession Specific Subjects You will also take profession specific subjects such as: Critical Thinking, Project Management, European Affairs, Entrepreneurship, Emerging Markets, Business Ethics/Corporate Social Responsibility, Risk Management, Globalisation, Consultancy & Change Management and Strategic Innovation Management.

Elective and Remedial Modules You may choose elective modules in your first and second year of study. This offers you the opportunity to look further than your own study programme and to fulfill your specific learning objectives. If you have difficulty with a particular subject it may be useful to brush up your knowledge in that area. Rotterdam Business School offers possibilities to do so both before and during your study. In the case of IBMS this may be subjects like Economics or English for instance.

Bachelor Programme IBMS The IBMS programme is offered in 3 variants: Full-time This track is a four-year programme for students with a Dutch havo or mbo level 4 diploma or a foreign equivalent.

Fast-track In addition to the regular 4-year bachelor programme we also offer a fasttrack three-year version for students who have completed Dutch vwo, mbo level 4 Business Studies or the International Baccalaureate. In this programme you take the first two years of IBMS in one year. In the first semester you follow the first year of the regular programme and in the second semester the second year of the regular programme. After this you continue in the third year of the regular 4-year programme.

Accelerated track We also offer a 1.5 or 2-year Accelerated IBMS programme for students who have already obtained a two or three year college degree in business or have finished either two or three years at University (business related). Students with a minimum of one year of work experience after finishing two or three years of studying can apply for the 1.5-year programme. Students without relevant work experience are required to take a 6-month placement after completing the 1.5-year programme.

Sustainable Development The IBMS programme at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences has been awarded a two-star AISHE (Auditing Instrument for Sustainability in Higher Education) certificate confirming our substantial commitment towards integrating the principles of sustainable development into the study programme and delivering environmentally and socially responsible managers to the international labour market.

Practical information for International Applicants Housing Rotterdam Business School can provide accommodation for the first semester for non-European (EEA) students who are accepted into the programme. The rooms are rented per term and cost € 350* per month (*subject to change), including all utility fees. European (EEA) students who start a bachelor programme can contact the student housing office for more information about accommodation: studenthousingoffice@hr.nl Living expenses To cover your living expenses such as housing, food, insurance and transportation you should expect to spend approximately € 800 - € 1,000 a month. You can expect to pay between € 300 - € 750 per year for books, readers and other study materials.

‘My success lies in my independence’ I did my placement at Syntens where I helped to organise an international horticultural fair.

I had a lot of responsibility.

Organising the stand, putting the company profiles on the website and contacting companies proved to be quite a challenge.

I also managed to acquire some nice new jobs. Tomorrow I am flying to Spain for a couple of weeks to work at a major fair.

According to my placement supervisor, my success lies largely in my independence. I started with the fair, but I recognised the opportunity to do more research in Spain. Using these opportunities is very important!

They are determined each year. The tuition fees for 2014-2015 can be found online from April 2014 at rotterdambusinessschool.nl Visa and Residence Permit Non-EU students must have a valid residence permit while studying in The Netherlands. After having received the payment of your invoice and all the required documents, Rotterdam Business School will apply for an MVV (entry visa) and a VVR (residence permit) at the IND

(Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service) on your behalf.

Binding Study Recommendation (BSR): During their first year of study all students must obtain at least 48 study points, from the possible 60, to be allowed to enter the second year of the study programme.
