3. Chair Malhotra: Did the team that won, did their plan ever get implemented?

a. VP Young: No, but this year it is important to look at projects that can get implemented and be seen through.

4. Senator Yari: I agree with a previous speaker’s point on changing requirements, and there should be a clear timeline on how long projects should take to be implemented.

5. Senator Subramanian: Senators should focus on how they plan to get them implemented, work with cabinet, and work with administration this year.

6. Chair Ahmad: I wish it would happen in the first semester so cabinet would have a better opportunity to see it through.

7. Chair Dzaveluri: What about using SAW questions as a base for these projects?

8. Senator Finklestein: Is it confirmed we are doing these this year?

a. VP Young: Yes, but we are figuring out dates and changes first.

a. VP Young: That is at the discretion of cabinet.

I. Ice Breaker

9/11/2025

SC 143 4

Meeting commenced at 6:02 pm EST

- Introduce yourself: Name, Year, Major, and goal for the semester

II. Over Summer break

- Standardizing Syllabus

- Basic course info like meeting times, instructor name, office hours, and contact information

- A grading breakdown so students know what counts most

- Clear policies about late work, attendance, participation, and use of technology

- Meeting with Mitch Case and Dr. Blue

- Discussed the idea of uploading a template of a standardized syllabus to the Canvas

- Any ideas?

- Template syllabus

- Teach our faculty members how to use syllabus on Canvas

- Dyanna: Sometimes professors put syllabus in three different sections so it would help out to have standard format for it.

- Jack: Help them understand syllabus section on bulletboard

- Jake: We need closer relationships with writing departments

- We should have controlled relationships with AI

- Cutting down writing part in classes is very harmful.

- Bianca: Should professors be strict on AI?

- We should educate professors how to use AI correctly, so they will not be scared to give out writing assignments in class.

- AI training course for professors

- Pat: Downside is that not all the professors will be open to the proposal

- One solution against use of AI is making research papers longer. Adjust it to the ability of AI writing.

- Collaborate with Center of Academic Success and Writing Center

- Working with the library

- In addition to the renovation, small updates were made throughout other rooms, including new signage and furniture.

- Actively collaborating with students to explore the possibility of adding a café.

- How can we collaborate with them? Any ideas?

- Pat: Student led cafes. School can choose the food options, but backstuff, managers are all students.

- Would help out with working opportunities at hofstra.

- Location ideas: Ground floor waiting area, second floor of the library.

- Operations hours would vary based on exam season.

- Bringing more student life on campus.

- Any other initiatives?

I. Ice Breaker: What TV show did you last binge watch?

II. Facility Updates

A. Following a meeting with Director Romano, I was briefed on the following changes on campus:

1. New Elevator Contractor for Suffolk Hall—a new set of eyes to propose a solution to the very unpredictable (temporarily stuck on floors—occurs randomly) elevator system. Previous contractors were not helpful with this issue.

2. New ADA door on Unispan

3. Crosswalks made more accessible by Weed and Adams Hall. Over by admissions into the North Side of Campus.

4. More funding assigned to 3 fully accessible ADA restrooms.

5. Grazed sidewalks (over by suffolk/nassau—permitting easier access for disabled individuals).

6. Increased Funding for Academic Building renovations.

a) The order of renovations starts from the most preferred area of renovation, all spelled out within the grant.

(1) Calkins 332 finished renovation over the summer

(2) Grant allots funding for the renovation of 5-7 classrooms a year. Classes that hold the most students are prioritized first.

(a) “Large” classes can be defined as classes holding 33-36+ students

(3) Next Summer, admin will aim to renovate at least 5 classrooms.

(4) Davison Hall will potentially see renovations next year.

B. Following a meeting with Compass Marketing Manager, Lexis Meehan, the following items were discussed:

1. Boost - Compass has advocated for the addition of a “comment” section within the app for several years; however, Boost simply does not have the coding prowess to integrate this feature. In the apps framework, it can only handle drop-down options. Compass will add a separate drop-down section for allergies/cross-contamination.

2. Adding more vegetarian items - Beyond Meat as a topping for all orders across all restaurants. This will be worked on over the next year.

3. Expansion of 7-dollar meal options - Will implement a rotating menu of 7-dollar options. Each restaurant already has one 7-dollar meal option.

4. Relaunching International Food Week (see below)
