HOB Salons was established in 1983 and is a multi-award winning salon group based over London, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Buckinghamshire and Essex. We have a state-of-the-art Academy that is the creative hub and educational facility to our 350+ team members and home to our external students.

Apprenticeships at HOB are the foundation to our business, with many different progression routes that feed into the broader strategy of the

“The HOB journey starts from the first day our apprenticeship programme begins and each learner will undergo comprehensive training under the guidance of our world-renowned education team. Through dedication and a commitment to learning, apprentices will gradually advance in their role, gaining hands-on experience and completing their Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals Qualification.

From here we will select the top performing team members that have completed their Level 2 qualification, and they will continue on to our 6 month graduate programme, allowing individuals to progress to fully qualified hairdressers within our award-winning salon group.

Once an established clientele has been created, managerial roles, creative roles and educational roles are all opportunities available to anyone that wants to progress within the business. Additionally, for those aspiring to entrepreneurial heights, HOB provides the option to explore salon ownership through our franchising partnership

programme, offering a rewarding career trajectory all under one multi-award-winning company.

APPRENTICESHIP COURSES

At HOB we offer a number of different apprenticeships tailored to the needs of each individual:

Level

2 Diploma for Hair Professionals –

Hairdressing

This apprenticeship is typically 23 months (21 months of on programme qualification and 2 months preparation for EPA)

The apprentice will learn the following modules:

• Consultation

• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

• Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks

• Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to achieve a variety of looks

• Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques

• Perming hair

Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals – Barbering

This apprenticeship is typically 18 months (16 months of on programme qualification and 2 months preparation for EPA)

The apprentice will learn the following modules:

• Consultation

• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

• Cutting hair using barbering techniques to create a variety of looks

• Style and finish men’s hair

• Cut facial hair into shape

• Provide shaving services

Level 3 Diploma for Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals

This apprenticeship is typically 15 months (13 months of on programme qualification and 2 months preparation for EPA) this apprenticeship can be taught as part of the graduate programme.

The apprentice will learn the following modules:

• Creatively restyle hair using a combination of techniques

• Creatively style and dress hair

• Creative hair colour correction services

• Provide client consultation services

• Smoothing and strengthening systems

• Use fashion forward trends in hair to create a collection of hair style looks

MATHS AND ENGLISH

Apprentices without GCSE grades 2-3 (level 1) will need to attend Functional Skills training alongside their hairdressing training at the Academy. They will need to achieve functional skills level 1, without this they are unable to complete their apprenticeship.

Apprentices without GCSE grades 4-9 (level 2) will need to attend functional skills training to upskill and where possible complete the level 2 exam.

It is a requirement that Apprentices will need to be able to complete their functional skills level 2 or have the equivalent GCSE grades to progress onto level 3.

Entry for the programme are subject to a successful trial day in the salon and a Maths and English BKSB diagnostic test, which the learner should score a minimum of Entry Level 3.

EARN AS YOU LEARN

All of our apprenticeships include work-based learning, so you earn as you learn –whether that’s as an internal apprentice working in one of our own salons, or as an external apprentice working for another salon and being under the HOB umbrella for your apprenticeship training.

HOB INTERNAL GRADUATE PROGRAMME

On completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship, we give our internal apprentices the opportunity to continue their HOB journey by joining our prestigious graduate programme via a practical entry assessment.

The programme is designed to transition each individual from a salon apprentice to a confident hairdresser that has the skill set they need to build up a busy clientele. The programme is set over a 6-12 month period, designed as a ‘finishing school’ which is predominantly focused on key fundamental cutting and

colouring techniques. Each individual will be paid the national minimum wage salary and work in one of our salons three days per week, attending our academy two days per week. We focus on consultation, the client experience and how to create the wow factor. After completing the programme each hairdresser will have the confidence to deal with any new client walking through the salon door, and be offered a position in one of our salons as a fully qualified stylist/colourist.

“Who would think you could travel the world as a hairdresser? I didn’t, but I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the globe as far afield as Brazil, Japan, LA, New York and everywhere in between.

To be able to do this as part of my career is something I never felt possible as “just a hairdresser”. It’s amazing to think as a 16-yearold, how lucky I was to find the right company that could open my eyes to all the possibilities of what the hairdressing industry has to offer.

I joined HOB in 2006 and enrolled into the apprenticeship programme, earning whilst learning and gaining valuable experience working in one of our salons as well as in our academy, assisting the education and creative team. Seeing the opportunities, I felt inspired and loved the creative aspect, working on photoshoots, seminars, competitions & fashion weeks.

When I qualified, I was able to hone my skillset using all the education I received as an apprentice and put it into

action. At HOB we offer many different avenues, from working as part of an amazing salon team, to expressing your creativity, to management and finally owning your own salon(s) and becoming a HOB franchisee. The opportunities are endless.

I feel very proud of my journey so far, from a young apprentice to now heading up our award-winning Academy and I hope to welcome you into the HOB family to help you start a great career of your own.”

EXTERNAL APPRENTICESHIPS

HOB offers a 360 degree approach to education. Not only are we committed to training our internal apprentices, but we are proud to offer apprenticeships to external salons to ensure we produce the future generation of stars to our industry. The apprentice will work in their external salon 4 days a week and attend the HOB Academy 1 day a week. This works in synergy with the external salon’s own training, where the salon will deliver their own training on model nights or model day sessions.

Alternatively, if an external salon delivers their own salon training programmes then our world renowned education team and assessors will come to the external salon to deliver training alongside the external salon trainer rather than the apprentices attending the HOB Academy.

We tailor-make our approach to suit each external salon so that we can personalise the education to suit the needs of their business.
