AWARD WINNING EDUCATION WITH HOB

Our Apprenticeship Programme will motivate and inspire any young learner, giving them the skills that link directly to their personal success.
The three of us started our own hairdressing journey as apprentices and built our career from there. We know the exciting journey the learner is about to embark on, as well as understanding the importance of education from the salon owner’s perspective, and the positive impact that this has on the future of their business.
Over the last four decades we have given thousands of apprentices the opportunity to grow and develop within the hairdressing industry and are delighted to be able to share our own successes with salons across the country. We currently hold the prestigious title of Apprentice Employer of The Year 2024/2025 and are committed to nurturing each individual to build their confidence so that their creativity can flourish.
Our aim is to provide world-renowned education so that we can continue to fly the flag for British Hairdressing, and we’d love to have you on this journey with us.
Whether you’re a salon owner or a potential apprentice looking to join the industry, HOB are on hand to support all of your educational needs.
Let’s create a successful future together.

HOB Salons was established in 1983 and is a multi-award winning salon group based over London, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Buckinghamshire and Essex. We have a state-of-the-art Academy that is the creative hub and educational facility to our 350+ team members and home to our external students.
Apprenticeships at HOB are the foundation to our business, and education has always been at the heart of what we do. We offer a 360 degree approach and are not only committed to training our internal apprentices, but are proud to offer external apprenticeships to ensure we produce the future generation of superstars to our industry. The apprentice will work in their own salon 4 days per week, and attend the HOB Academy 1 day per week. This works in synergy with your salon’s training, where your salon will deliver their own training on model nights or model day sessions. Alternatively, if your salon delivers their own salon training, our worldrenowned education team and
assessors will come to your salon to deliver training alongside your salon trainer(s) rather than the apprentices attending the HOB Academy.
We tailor-make our approach to suit each external salon so that we can personalise the education to best suit the needs of your business.

Our 6-month ‘finishing school’ programme is led by our awardwinning Education Team. Designed as the next step after completing the Level 2 Apprenticeship, our programme aims to transition salon apprentices into confident hairdressers equipped with the skills to build a busy clientele.
Focused on fundamental cutting and colouring techniques, our ‘finishing school’ ensures each individual becomes a master of their own craft.
Participants will select their ‘specialised subject’—either cut or colour—and divide their time between their own salon work and attending academy sessions. Guided by our education team and working with live models, each session focuses on consultation, client experience, and creating the ‘wow factor’.
Upon completion, graduates have the confidence to tackle any client request and deliver outstanding hairdressing that keeps clients coming back time and time again.
Our programme is flexible to accommodate salon requirements, offering three booking formats:
Session-by-Session, 24 sessions, or 48 sessions. Typically, HOB Graduates attend 48 sessions over six months (2 per week), with classes held on Thursdays and Fridays only.
Join our community of confident stylists and unleash the potential to create a loyal and exciting clientele.
Enjoy this one day course and learn how to build a successful clientele. How To Build Your Column takes you through the fundamental tools that will be required to becoming financially and creatively successful. This includes how to deliver the perfect consultation, the art of rebooking clients and what it takes to become a fully booked hairdresser.
The HOB Academy offer courses week-in-week-out, tailored to meet the needs of both our internal salon teams and external individuals or salon groups. With HOB Sessions, you have the opportunity to join other students while focusing on unique goals and requirements.

HOB Sessions run on Mondays for theory sessions and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for practical sessions.

Jake Unger, Head of Education
“Who would think you could travel the world as a hairdresser? I didn’t, but I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the globe as far afield as Brazil, Japan, LA, New York and everywhere in between. To be able to do this as part of my career is something I never felt possible as “just a hairdresser”. It’s amazing to think as a 16-year-old, how lucky I was to find a company that could open my eyes to all the possibilities of what the hairdressing industry has to offer. I joined HOB in 2006 and enrolled onto the apprenticeship programme, earning whilst learning and gaining valuable experience working in one of the salons as well as in our academy, assisting the education and creative team.
Seeing the opportunities, I felt inspired and loved the creative aspect, working on photoshoots, seminars, competitions
& fashion weeks. When I qualified, I was able to hone my skillset using all the education I received as an apprentice and put it into action.
At HOB we offer a number of personalised courses, from our 6 month graduate programme and refresher courses to fundamental and advanced cutting and colouring courses. Our award-winning education team are on hand to personalise your education to support helping you unlock your full potential to become the best hairdresser you can be.
We’re really excited to be working with your salons and your apprentices. With a dedication and commitment to our craft, together we can ensure that our industry has a bright and successful future.
