在過去三十年，藝術節的「青少年 之友」計劃共有超過 80 萬名本地中 學及大專學生參加 。藝術節今年更 首度舉辦「藝術 X 科技創作比賽」， 鼓 勵 同 學 善 用 科 技， 進 行 藝 術 創 作，預計會吸引更多年輕朋友參與。

1973, more than 1,700 local and international artists a year take part in the Festival and its bravura mix of innovative contemporary works and traditional offerings. In doing so, our acclaimed Festival burnishes Hong Kong’s international reputation in the arts, while spotlighting local culture.

This year’s programme features a wealth of world-class productions.

Centre’s live-streamed play To Be a Machine, and Bristol Old Vic’s production of the outstanding comingof-age play Wonder Boy. I am particularly grateful for the Festival’s continuing dedication to the development of our local artists, and the cultivation of arts and culture in the community. Over the past 50 years, the Festival has commissioned and produced more than 250 local productions, embracing Cantonese opera and contemporary dance, theatre, music, chamber opera and much more. Many of the works enjoyed subsequent runs in Hong Kong and around the world. The Festival also presents some 250 PLUS events annually. This year’s PLUS programme includes three discrete videos on ice dancing, in celebration of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The Festival’s Young Friends Scheme has reached more than 800,000 local secondary and tertiary school students over the past 30 years. I expect even more interest from our youth this year with the debut of the Arts X Tech Creative Competition and its spotlight on technology-inspired art.

My congratulations, once again, on the milestone 50th edition of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Over the next half century, I have no doubt that the Festival will continue to entertain, enlighten and dazzle Hong Kong and the world, while advancing our new and welcomed status as an Eastmeets-West centre for international cultural exchange as laid out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

今 年 是 香 港 藝 術 節 五 十 周 年， 感 謝你與我們一同見證這重要的里程 碑 。雖然疫情持續帶來挑戰，但藝 術節仍繼續致力為觀眾帶來海外與 本地的出色表演 。 國際交通尚未復蘇，而香港藝術節 亦作出相應調整，以線上和線下形 式呈獻一系列世界級精采表演 。今 年以「繫」為主題，帶出香港藝術 節如何透過戲劇、舞蹈、歌劇和音 樂等節目，跟世界保持聯繫，同時 也跟觀眾保持聯繫 。我們深信優秀 的藝術，不論以何種形式呈現，都 能療癒人心 。我們衷心希望能為你 在這極具意義的一年，帶來許多難 忘時光 。

The Hong Kong Arts Festival marks a significant milestone this year and I would like to thank you for joining us in celebrating its 50th edition. Though the pandemic continues to make productions everywhere challenging, the Festival is poised to bring you some of the best in performing arts from across the world.

The prevailing conditions have made travel difficult and the HKAF has once again adapted its programmes in response. The Festival will continue to present an excellent world-class line-up, both online and in-venue. This year’s theme is “Connected”: the HKAF remains connected— to the world and to its audiences— bringing a range of programmes, including theatre, dance, opera and music. We are convinced that great art, in whatever form it might be presented, is a tonic and we sincerely hope to offer you many memorable moments in this landmark year.

This is a big anniversary year: a 50th edition of the HKAF, 30 years of Young Friends, and of course the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR. 香港藝術節 HONG KONG ARTS FESTIVAL 扎根香港的國際藝壇盛事 聯繫中國與世界

An International Arts Festival in Hong Kong Connecting China and the World 香港藝術節於 1973 年正式揭幕，是國際藝壇中重要 的文化盛事，於每年 2、3 月期間呈獻眾多優秀本地 及國際藝術家的演出，以及舉辦多元化的「加料」 和教育活動，致力豐富香港的文化生活 。

香港藝術節是一所非牟利機構，2021/22 財政年度預 算（包括第 50 屆香港藝術節及 2022 年「無限亮」） 約港幣一億二千四百萬，當中香港特區政府的年度 撥 款 佔 總 收 入 約 21%， 另 外 約 16% 需 來 自 票 房 收 入，約 45% 則需依賴來自各大企業、熱心人士和慈 善基金會的贊助和捐款 。預計餘下的約 18% 則來自 其他收入，包括政府針對捐款和贊助收入而提供的 配對資助 。 香港藝術節每年呈獻眾多國際演藝名家精采多元的 演出，例如 *：

HKAF, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and educational events in February and March each year.

HKAF is a non-profit organisation. The total budget for FY2021/22 (including the 50th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2022 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$124 million. Current Government annual funding accounts for around 21% of the Festival's total income.

Around 16% of the Festival’s income needs to come from the box office, and around 45% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 18% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations.

聖桑寫了很多作品，但目前只 有少數比較著名，而《動物狂 歡節》是當中最為人熟悉的一 首。 這 位 法 國 作 曲 家 博 學 多 才，對天文、哲學、民族學和 考古學均有涉獵 。他又擅長繪 畫和創作諷刺漫畫，既是一位 教育家，也是一位評論家，編 過拉摩和葛魯克的作品，寫過 詩歌和戲劇，亦是蜚聲國際的 指揮 。聖桑的作品大多比較嚴 肅，而《動物狂歡節》卻較為 歡樂，可算是個例外。

這部關於動物王國的精采之作 老少咸宜，難怪大受歡迎 。聖 桑一方面鑽研了各種動物的聲 音，仔細地描繪牠們的各種特 點，把小朋友逗得非常歡樂 。 另一方面又把一些音樂笑話放 進作品內，令資深樂迷亦聽得 不 亦 樂 乎。 例 如 他 把 奧 芬 巴 赫《地獄中的奧爾菲斯》裏著 名的〈肯肯舞曲〉放進〈烏龜〉

內，但速度變得很慢，教人難 以辨認；又讓大象隨着白遼士 《浮士德的沉淪》中的芭蕾舞曲 起舞 。作品裏的動物都非常頑 皮，極具娛樂性：獅子昂首闊 步地大步前進，鳥兒和半驢追 隨其後；在烏龜和大象身後的 袋鼠興高采烈地蹦蹦跳；水裏 美麗的游魚在鋼琴的氣泡中穿 梭； 弦樂巨大的「咿唷」聲宣 布驢子登場，與叢林中孤單的 布穀鳥（單簧管）相映成趣； 鳥兒在籠中興奮地抖動翅膀； 年輕鋼琴家（雖然他不算是動 物一員）勤奮地練習音階，成 效滿滿；回到動物世界，化石 化身成木琴的叮噹聲；最後的 個人表演屬於優雅的天鵝（大 提琴），然後所有動物登場，獻 上大型的終曲。

樂曲簡介

Camille Saint-Saëns is today known for only a very small portion of his extensive oeuvre, of which The Carnival of the Animals is by far the best known. The French composer was a polymath, interested in astronomy, philosophy, ethnology and archaeology.

He was skilled at drawing and making caricatures, was active as a pedagogue and critic, edited the works of Rameau and Gluck, wrote poems and plays and was also a conductor of great international renown.

His Carnival of the Animals is a rather cheerful exception in an otherwise serious-minded extensive oeuvre.

This colourful revue from the animal kingdom has rightly been hugely popular with audiences of all ages. Saint-Saëns worked out the onomatopoeic details of the animals and their peculiarities with incredible refinement, delighting his younger listeners. At the same time, he also packed some musical jokes into the work for more knowledgeable adults: for example, we hear the famous “Cancan” from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld in

the tortoises, but at a very slow tempo, so that it is difficult to identify. He has the elephant dance to a ballet from Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust. Around it, many animals romp with very entertaining effects: the lion strides pompously along, then the birds follow, and after them the half-donkey. After the tortoises and the elephant, the kangaroos jump around jauntily before we dive into the world of the underwater and gaze at the pretty fish between the many bubbles in the piano.

The loud “Eeyore” in the strings announces the donkey; a quiet counterpoint to this is the lonely cuckoo (clarinet) calling in the woods. Then the birds flutter around excitedly in their birdhouse. Although not animals, the young pianists are musically very productive as they diligently practise their scales. It’s then straight back to the animal world, to the fossils, whose clattering bones Saint-Saëns passes on to the xylophone. The last solo appearance is given by the graceful swan (cello) before all the animals gather together on stage for the big finale.

樂曲簡介

Georg Friedrich Haas created one of the most successful pieces of new music for young audiences with his musical adaptation of Mira Lobe’s children’s book Das kleine Ich-bin-ich (Little I-amme). In this work commissioned by the International Summer Academy of the University Mozarteum Salzburg and the Bamberg Symphony, the Austrian composer does not treat either the book or its young audience with condescension––on the contrary: in his preface, Georg Friedrich Haas appreciates the original book as a “great work of art” with “moral significance”.

At the centre of the story is the little I, of undetermined gender. It does not yet know who itself is and begins to ask each of the animals it meets. It discovers some similarities, but the differences are always much greater and more relevant. Each animal has been assigned an instrument with an appropriate musical signature: the flute portrays birds singing in a field of flowers, the squawking trumpet is the frog; the hippopotamus is embodied by the tuba while

the horse is played by the bass saxophone – above the whirring strings, they all step forward to face the little I. Georg Friedrich Haas’s music underscores the touching narrative with charming sounds and sensitively renders the little I’s troubles, the natural phenomena and the dismissive reactions of the animals. This story for young audiences raises philosophical questions, for example about the feeling of wanting to belong somewhere and the marginalisation of those who are different. At the end of each encounter with a new animal, the little I always gets to hear: “If you don’t know who you are, you’re stupid: Boom!” The little I’s busy search takes a long time, across the meadow, into the water and up into the air. In the end, the I finds the answer to the great existential question: “I am me!”

He has led opera productions for the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House, the Paris Opera, Zurich Opera, and the Glyndebourne Festival. In 2022 he makes his debut at the Salzburg Festival.

For his recordings with the Bamberg Symphony he won an ICMA Award for Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony; the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik for Mahler’s Fourth Symphony; a BBC Music Magazine Award for Dvořák and Martinů Piano Concertos (with Ivo Kahánek); and Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine Award nominations for Martinů Violin Concertos (with Frank Peter Zimmermann).

Hrůša studied at Prague’s Academy of Performing Arts, where his teachers included Jiří Bělohlávek. He is president of the International Martinů Circle and the Dvořák Society. He was the inaugural recipient of the Sir Charles Mackerras Prize, and in 2020 was awarded the Antonín Dvořák Prize by the Czech Republic’s Academy of Classical Music, and – with the Bamberg Symphony – the Bavarian State Prize for Music.

溫卓妍是香港大學英文系榮 譽碩士（創意寫作）及香港中 文 大 學 音 樂 系 榮 譽 學 士（聲 樂）。2009 年 首 踏 職 業 舞 台， 主 演 演 戲 家 族 音 樂 劇《一 屋 寶 貝》， 並 隨 劇 團 於 香 港、 澳 門、 廣 州 巡 演 共 八 年， 其 中 包括與香港小交響樂團合辦之 音 樂 會。 此 音 樂 會 由 迪 卡 唱 片收錄於本港首張原創音樂劇 X 管弦樂團原聲大碟，當中溫 卓妍的歌聲被《南華早報》譽 為「迷 人 的 聲 音」（ beguiling voice ）。

Jarita Wan is a graduate of the Music Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and receiving her Master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Hong Kong. Wan made her musical debut in Actors’ Family’s The Passage Beyond in 2009, receiving wide recognition.

She toured around Hong Kong, macau and Guangzhou with the production for eight years, and the musical featured in her concert with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta on its Decca recording. In a review, the South China Morning Post described her voice as “beguiling”.

She has portrayed the leads in a range of Hong Kong and Macau musicals including West Kowloon Cultural District X Hong Kong Repertory Theatre’s The Great Pretender; Actors’ Family’s A Tale of The Southern Sky, A Midsummer Night's Dream, A Lesson I Learnt in Bangkok and Macau Cultural Centre’s Sing High Musical. She staged her original musical The Nightingale in 2020, filling the roles of music director, playwright, composer, lyricist and prima donna; it was nominated at the 29th Hong Kong Drama Awards for Best Leading Actress (Comedy/ Farce) and Best Original Score (Musical Theatre).

Wan co-founded Theatre Hikari, advocating performing arts education for schools and charity organisations. She is currently a freelance performing, creative and educative artist and lives in Barcelona. She is a guest tutor for Actors Workshop Spain.

The Bamberg Symphony is an extraordinary orchestra from an extraordinary city. Since 1946, it has been delighting audiences worldwide with its characteristically dark, rounded, radiant sound. In that time it has given well over 7,300 concerts in more than 500 cities and 63 countries and, as the Bavarian State Philharmonic, it regularly criss-crosses the globe as cultural ambassador to the world for Bavaria and all of Germany.

The circumstances surrounding its birth make the Bamberg Symphony a mirror of German history. In 1946, former members of Prague’s German

Philharmonic Orchestra met other Czech German musicians who had also been forced to flee their homes by the war and its aftermath. Together they founded the Bamberg Musicians’ Orchestra, soon after renamed the Bamberg Symphony. Its lineage can be traced back through the Prague Orchestra to the 19th and 18th centuries, so that the Bamberg Symphony’s roots reach back to Mahler and Mozart.

Now, more than seventy years after it was founded, and with Czech-born Jakub Hrůša, the Orchestra’s fifth Chief Conductor, at the helm since September 2016, there is once again a living link to the Bamberg Symphony’s historic roots.
