創作背後

From Scratch to Script

真實,是我們在這次創作上所追求的核心。於是

Authenticity is what we have strived for in creating this work. To this end, we sought to gain deeper insights into the mindsets of people from different fields through various interviews, so as to enrich the characters in the play with real life features. Our interviewees included university students, university teaching staff, frontline police officers, reporters and (former) social activists. We touched on how, after experiencing a major social movement in Hong Kong, these people adapted to the living environment and re-examined their own identities, as well as their views and hopes for the future development of society. This gave us a more multi-dimensional and thorough understanding of the whole picture.

我們透過多次訪問,去了解更多不同界別人士 的思維方式,讓劇中的角色描寫得更有血有肉。 我們訪問的對象包括大學生、大學教授、前線警 察、記者、(前)社運人士,他們在香港經歷了 一場重大的社會運動後,對生活環境的應變,對 自己身分的重新審視,對社會未來發展的看法和 期望等等,都令我們對整個局面有更立體和全面 的領會。 無力,是他們異口同聲的嘆息。面對社會急劇的 撕裂,自問適應力再強的香港人也變得手足無 措。有的選擇逃避,有的選擇妥協,有的選擇沉 默,有的選擇他日捲土重來;他們都深信時間會 將熱情和憤怒沖淡,然而卻不會否認,在記憶深 處,那道永不磨滅的傷痕。 在訪問的過程中,我們彷彿找到這次創作的最大 意義,就是為這群見證時代的人,延續他們所放 棄的另一條路途。雖然現實與理想之間存在着偏 差,但仍希望他們能活得心安理得,在煙火璀璨 之下毋忘曾經擁有過的青春烈火。 文:許晉邦 文本資料搜集 / 導演助理

All the interviewees expressed the same sense of helplessness. In the face of sudden social rupture, even Hong Kong people who pride themselves on their adaptability were at a loss what to do. Some chose to escape reality; some chose to compromise; some chose to stay silent; some chose to wait for the time to make a comeback. All of them believed passion and anger would fade in time, and yet they never denied that the wounds in their memories would always remain. In conducting the interviews, we seemed to have discovered the most profound meaning of our artistic creation, which was to extend the eventualities that events could have led to, but did not. There are always gaps between ideals and reality, and yet we hope these people shall live their days with peace of mind and, amidst the sparks of the present, never forget the flames of youth they once lived.
