“Freedom alone is not enough, without light to read at night, without time or access to water to irrigate your farm, without the ability to catch fish to feed your family.”

Hippo Roller is designed with a large opening for easy filling from a wide variety of water collection points. The design also facilitates regular cleaning of the interior
The mini-cap in the centre of the large cap facilitates simple irrigation of food gardens and hygienic water dispensing using a common soda bottle top.

The burden of traditional methods of water porting
The immediate relief a Hippo Roller provides
2.1 billion people are impacted by severe water scarcity.
19 litres (5 gal) of water per day currently support the average African family. This excludes agricultural use.
6 km (3.7 miles) is the daily average distance travelled by women and children to collect water.
Women and children spend more than an hour every day fetching water, often multiple times a day. This gruelling task is considered menial and disproportionately falls on women. Long walks to collect water often on their heads and shoulders causes health risks. Carrying heavy loads of water so frequently leads to musculoskeletal damage and early degeneration of bones and tissue. Most women carry around 19 litres (5 gallons) of water per day on their heads. This can lead to headaches, issues with childbirth, and premature ageing of the spine.
200 million hours are spent each day just collecting water.
The time spent porting water limits all women from pursuing their education, family time and economic opportunities.

Hippo Roller impacts 11 of the 17 United Nations SDG's
The primary goal of SDG6 is to "achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all" by 2030. The Hippo Roller is an important last-mile solution to this challenge.
Hippo Roller removes that burden and increases the volume of water that people can carry (up to 90 litres/24 gallons) meaning less trips are required. Empowering themselves and focusing more of their time on... education and economic well being
Hippo Roller has deployed many innovative 3rd party products which further increases the Hippo Roller’s effectiveness: water filters, purification products, drip-irrigation, seeds and gardening tools.
