SM- What continues to be the motivational factor for you?
I wanted to create and finally have generational wealth for my kids, my grandkids & my grandkids-grandkids. I want to be able to travel out the country every season of the year for at least 8-12 days at a time. I do not want the mental stress of depending on a job to feed & provide for my family and me. I want to travel to different amusement parks, try different cultured food with my kids and family, and give them a better life than I had growing up. I wanted to show people that you can do anything you put your mind to. I wanted to show my family that we do not have to be employees & work for money all our lives. We can create different streams of incomes & let our money work for us while we are planning our next vacations.
SM- What was the most challenging thing you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
The most challenging thing I had to do was getting used to being alone, isolated & uncomfortable to grow. Through isolation, it brought elevation. That means I had to get used to letting go of toxic relationships & outgrowing certain friends. I had to have a tunnel vision on what I wanted in life and become disciplined enough to obtain it. I become comfortable in my own
solitude, which is when epiphanies start to happen. I had to start fasting, becoming humbler, reading different books, practicing what I preach & become the person that deserved the blessing God was about to bestow upon. I had to avoid negativity & stay out the mix. A big challenge I had to overcome was not paying attention to the naysayers/haters who do not want me to succeed.
~Psalms 23:5
SM- What values are important to you when it comes to building your business?
Quality gratitude. I try to make sure I am putting out an excellent quality product & also giving good professionalism along with customer service. I value having a gratitude type of attitude. Just being thankful someone even took interest in my business. I want the quality of my products being so good that you will tell your peers about it. I once read in a book that you want to have a product so good- that it makes people promote & brag about it for you. I want my products being compared to big brands that initially inspired me. (Grind until your idols become your rivals)
SM- Was there anyone in your circle that contributed to making this campaign a success?
GOD!, my kids (Andrew & Aaliyah), their mother, my brother (CJ) & my uncle (Lo’). I want to thank everyone who ever let me make videos, supported the brand as we continued to grow & evolve. Most importantly, I want to give a special thanks to my mother. She’s been the main one encouraging me along the journey. So if you’re reading this mama, thank you & I LOVE YOU!
SM- What can people expect from you next?
More color slides. I’m currently in the process of working on a different color as I’m speaking. Also, more nail polishes & different options of nail polishes. Lastly, be on the lookout for the nail salon. Pretty Toes Matter

The only thing people can expect from me next is to be on watch for whatever God is bringing into my life now. SM- Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
The most challenging thing I had to overcome to get to the point I have made it to was striving to understand that it's not all about me and my story. I had to learn how to also become conscious of other people's desires from other communities as well.

She is a renowned strategist, author, life and business coach, chaplain, and social justice advocate, deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in every sphere she touches. To meet her, you would never forget her!
SM- Tell us about what you are currently promoting?
Right now, I am excited to be promoting several new projects that reflect my passion and purpose. My latest business books offer practical wisdom and strategies for aspiring entrepreneurs and leaders looking to make an impact. I have also written a personal memoir that shares my journey of overcoming adversity and finding strength through faith—hoping it will inspire others to persevere through their own challenges. Additionally, I am releasing a new book designed specifically for educators, focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom. This project is especially close to my heart, as every student deserves an environment where they feel seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.
SM- What continues to be the motivational factor for you?
What motivates me to be featured in a magazine is the opportunity to share my journey and inspire others through my diverse roles as an educator, motivational speaker, pastor, college professor, and mental health advocate. Surviving brain surgery gave me a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of resilience, faith, and the power of community. I believe that by opening up about my experiences—both the triumphs and the challenges—I can encourage others to pursue their calling, overcome adversity, and prioritize their mental and spiritual well-being. My story is not just about recovery, but about transformation and the impact we can have when we choose to serve and uplift those around us.
SM- What was the most challenging thing you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
The most challenging obstacle I have had to overcome was enduring two separate brain procedures, which resulted in significant visual loss. Facing this reality was both physically and emotionally overwhelming. There were moments when I questioned my strength and wondered how I would continue my work as an educator, pastor, and mental health advocate. But through faith, determination, and the unwavering support of my loved ones, I found new ways to adapt and persevere. This experience taught me the true meaning of resilience—it forced me to confront my vulnerabilities, lean into my community, and discover abilities within myself I never knew existed. Today, I use my story to show others that even the darkest seasons can lead to growth and that obstacles, no matter how daunting, can become powerful platforms for hope and transformation.
SM- What values are important to you when it comes to building your business?
Starting my business after facing a major health crisis was an act of faith and obedience. I remembered Habakkuk 2:2— “Write the vision and make it plain”—and that is exactly what I did. I turned my pain into purpose, mapping out a path to serve others through speaking, authorship, and
coaching. Now, as I continue to grow, I am passionately working to expand my reach—dreaming of one day stepping onto the TEDx stage to share my story of resilience and hope with the world. Branding myself for this next chapter, I hold tightly to the values of integrity, compassion, and empowerment, guided by Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” My mission is to inspire others to unlock their potential, embrace their own stories, and walk boldly in faith—knowing that with God, nothing is impossible.
SM- Was there anyone in your circle that contributed to making this campaign a success?
The growth and success of my business campaign would not have been possible without the unwavering support and guidance of several remarkable individuals. My daughters have been my greatest cheerleaders, encouraging me to keep moving forward, sharing fresh ideas, and reminding me daily why I started this journey. My pastor played a crucial role, offering spiritual counsel, praying with me through each challenge, and turning point, grounding my business in faith and purpose. I am also deeply grateful for my business mentors, whose wisdom and experience provided practical strategies, accountability, and the inspiration to dream even bigger. Each of these contributors helped shape my business by nurturing my vision, strengthening my resolve, and ensuring that every step I take aligns with the core values that matter most to me.
SM- What can people expect from you next?
People can expect an exciting new chapter as I take my business to the next level. I am relaunching my podcast and radio show, bringing fresh conversations, expert guests, and powerful stories to uplift and inform listeners everywhere. My sights are set on TEDx speaking engagements, where I will share my journey and inspire audiences on a global stage. Stepping into my business full-time, I am ready to travel the world, connect with new communities, and empower others to pursue their purpose. I am also focused on building new business partnerships and securing meaningful contracts that align with my mission. With every new venture, my commitment remains the same: to inspire, educate, and help others unlock their greatest potential.
SM- What is one final thought that you want to leave with our readers?
If there is one thing I want to leave with you, it is this: your story matters, no matter how many challenges you face or how impossible things may seem. Never be afraid to dream boldly, write your vision, and take that first step of faith. With determination, support, and unwavering belief, you can turn your trials into triumphs and use your unique journey to inspire and uplift others. Remember, you are stronger than you think, and your best chapters are yet to be written.

SM- What's unique about this that separates it from the rest?
At the heart of my business are the values of integrity, empowerment, inclusivity, and service. Integrity means staying true to my purpose, ensuring that every service, every collaboration,
and every resource I create genuinely supports growth and uplifts others.
Empowerment drives me to equip educators, students, and leaders with the tools they need to succeed beyond the traditional classroom walls.
Inclusivity is non-negotiable. Every learner deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported, and that principal shapes everything from the strategies I develop to the partnerships I form. Service is a legacy value for me, pouring into others, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for others to rise.
SM- Who was a part of this project that contributed to its success?
Absolutely. I am deeply grateful to my circle of family, mentors, colleagues, and friends who have supported me every step of the way. My parents, who planted the seed early on by teaching me the importance of education and service, have been a constant source of encouragement.
I’m also thankful for the educators, collaborators, and service providers who believed in my vision and partnered with me to turn ideas into action, whether through contributing insights for my books, supporting events like the Educators Rise Conference, or sharing my work within their networks.
Special thanks to the writers and change-makers who stepped up to contribute to the new book project their voices are essential to pushing this movement forward. And to my extended community, those who cheered me on through the podcast features, the Caribbean POSH ICON Woman Awards nomination, and beyond your belief in the mission fuels me.
Success is never a solo journey, and I am truly blessed to have a circle that lifts as they climb.
SM- What is the inspiration behind what you do?
My greatest motivation continues to be the belief that education is the most powerful tool for change, not just for individuals, but for entire communities. Growing up as an only child with parents who instilled in me the value of giving back and sharing knowledge, I learned early on that my purpose is tied to empowering others.
Every student, educator, and aspiring leader I support reminds me why this work matters: to create inclusive, equitable environments where everyone can thrive. Whether it's through my books, speaking engagements, professional development services, or mentorship, I'm driven by the ripple effect that empowerment can create.
Seeing individuals realize their potential, sometimes for the first time and knowing I had even a small part in that journey is what keeps me going. The work is bigger than me; it's about building lasting impact, one empowered learner at a time.
SM- What are some other things people can expect from you in the near future?
I'm excited for what is ahead! I am currently available for speaking engagements, offering inspiration and practical strategies on topics like DEI, Special Education, and inclusive teaching practices.
In addition, I’m working on building a course designed for teachers and parents, helping them create more adaptive, empowering learning environments for students with diverse needs. I believe equipping both educators and families is key to lasting change.
You'll also see me diving deeper into my work within DEI, creating more resources, training opportunities, and initiatives that promote true equity and inclusion in education.
On a personal level, I’m committed to nurturing my other talents including cooking, event planning, and braiding as ways to stay creative, connected to my roots, and build community in new ways.
I’m passionate about growing both personally and professionally and everything I do is about creating spaces where others can grow too. Stay connected, there's so much more coming!
SM- Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
One of the most challenging things I had to overcome was learning to navigate spaces that weren’t always designed with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind. As an advocate for DEI and Special Education, there were moments when my vision for truly inclusive learning environments was met with resistance or limited understanding.
I had to build the confidence to stand firm in my purpose, even when it meant being the only voice in the room calling for change. I also had to overcome self-doubt questioning whether I was making a difference and remind myself that small, consistent actions lead to big transformations over time.
Another personal challenge was balancing my passion for service with maintaining my own well-being. It’s easy to pour into others and forget to pour into yourself. I had to learn that self-care isn't selfish it’s necessary to continue doing this work at a high level.
Each challenge strengthened my resilience and sharpened my vision. Today, I’m proud to say those experiences made me a stronger leader, educator, and advocate.
Honestly, I can say I’ve been rapping my whole life. My dad and uncles were all rappers, so I grew up watching them writing songs and recording in the house. They always made sure me and my cousin hopped on the mic even if we didn’t know what to say, and it made me fall in love with music.
• I’m from Los Angeles, California. Westmont to be specific
• Some of my biggest influences I would say are my pops and uncles because they introduced me to rapping in general. As far as people I listen to that influenced me, I would say Nipsey, Drakeo and Lil Wayne
• I feel like people gravitate towards my music because it’s authentic and I try to make something for everybody listen to. I have my own lane and my sound is unique.
• I definitely bring a west coast, south central Los Angeles type of style to my music, but from my own perspective.
• I feel like what really sets me apart from everybody else is my lyricism and my ability to make different types of songs.
• I see myself doing shows developing my sound, having a brand that’s established, and being a full-time artist.
SM- Tell us about what you’re promoting and the details around it? The TakeOff” Ep & “HunnidBandsOrBetter” via YouTube
SM- What’s unique about this that separates it from the rest? Loyalty is definitely the most important quality to me, when it comes to building a business. It’s hard to build anything with people you can’t trust. After that I would say authenticity because my goal is to make something that’s real but also has my stamp on it.
SM- Who was a part of this project that contributed to its success? Nuttypbeats for production, Norman Batez & Big Zeus for mixing and mastering the project, KLuv for featuring on the project, my bro Swift and my team for helping me with the project.
SM- What is the inspiration behind what you do? I’m motivated by wanting to provide opportunities for my people. I want to use music to open up doors for not just me but the people I love as well. My past also motivates me to tell my story and offer some insight for people in similar situations.
SM- What are some other things people can expect from you in the near future?
Expect a lot more songs and more videos as soon as possible. A few shows and other performances as well.
SM- Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
Growing up in south central Los Angeles, and the pitfalls that come with that. From getting trouble, to getting shot at, to running from the police, but still going to school. Having to learn about life on the fly sometimes and letting things distract me from what I wanted to do, which was music.

Arthur Bellfield aka Art the Poet is a nationally recognized poet and writer. He’s known for writing comic books such as Tainted Love, Lady Freedom, and Black Villains Wanted. In 2023 he founded the Colorado Springs Poetry Slam as a haven for poets & poetry lovers!
SM- What message are you hoping to get across to the people by doing what you do?
Hip hop saved my life when it needed saving, however poetry & spoken word saved my soul. So, when I say live within your truth that’s real talk because sometimes that’s all we have…which is our truth. But, at the Colorado Springs Poetry Slam we also have each other and that’s what community is about…being there!
Shoutout to Saul Williams, Nas, Chuck D, Dead Prez, J Cole, Black Ice, and every other poet to bless the mic!
SM- Tell us about what you’re promoting and the details around it?
What I am currently promoting is the Colorado Springs Poetry Slam which I founded two years ago along with our latest intuition which uses poetry circles which are workshops designed to utilize poetry as a tool for wellness.
SM- What’s unique about this that separates it from the rest?
I value consistently when it comes to business as well as time. When a poet steps on stage at a poetry slam...they have three minutes and ten seconds to bless us with their soulful art of words. This is when the magic kicks in and all eyes and ears are waiting for that poet to speak! There’s consistency and value within that exchange of words and the audience responding! It’s alchemy!
SM- Who was a part of this project that contributed to its success?
The Colorado Springs Poetry Slam is successful because of poets and musicians like Lina the Poet, Jayde Rose, Sun, Regan, Sarah Garlick, Timone Perez, Bex, Sara Lynn, Adian, Ugly Face and more! I stand in awe of these men & women and honestly, I’m a fan of each of them! This is why the slam is successful. It’s because we have authentic souls sharing their highs and lows with the world…You have to respect that!
SM- What is the inspiration behind what you do? What motivates me is providing a platform for poets, musicians, artists, and other creatives to live within their truth! This means a lot to me, so we’ve created this safe space for people dealing with the echoes of trauma and life which isn’t a cake walk for many of us! Poetry is a powerful
healing tool and I see that healing manifest in real time with each show.
SM- What are some other things people can expect from you in the near future?
The monthly Colorado Springs Poetry Slam will continue to grow, and we will continue to have our Erotic Open Mics, poetry potlucks as well as our youth poetry slams which we are introducing this summer! And I’m very excited about our virtual and in person poetic wellness classes which you can sign up for at coloradospringspoetryslsm.com
SM- Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
The most challenging thing I’ve had to overcome was the feeling that I wasn’t black enough for the “black experience” they I was having in America on a daily basis. That was a different type of bullying that I dealt with while trying to deal with regular teenage shit. Imagine being around people who catered to stereotypes and mad that you didn’t want to give the world that satisfaction of being another black man locked up, in jail or dead. However, due to social conditioning that was the reality for a lot of people I knew growing up. Colorism and black on black racism is at the heart of why many people grow up with self-hatred within our community-they just don’t know how to talk about it. I was just on some other, Dragonball Z type of shit!
However, I made peace with those challenges and whatever residual traumas that manifested afterwards..which led me realizing how important and powerful poetry can be when utilized within your healing journey.

“I stopped searching for a net to catch me because I realized that I am the net.”
SM - What message are you hoping to get across to the people by doing what you do?
I want people to understand this, There’s no dream too big, and no background too small. I wear my heart on my sleeve because I know there’s somebody out there who feels invisible, who feels like greatness is for everybody but them. I’m living proof that your dreams aren’t a joke, they’re a calling. I’m trying to inspire people to stop asking for permission and start believing in themselves. If you can see yourself doing it, you can make it real. And I’m here to be a mirror, to show them what’s possible when you bet on yourself.
SM - Tell us about what you are promoting and the details around it? What I’m promoting is bigger than a product. It’s my brand, it’s my story, it’s my book, but it’s also my journey. It’s the belief that every scar, every setback, every moment you wanted to quit but didn’t, it all matters. My book isn’t just words on a page. It’s a lifeline for people trying to find their purpose in a world that tells them to settle. My brand stands on truth, growth, and transformation, because I didn’t just build a brand. I built a testimony.
SM - What’s unique about this that separates it from the rest? What makes this different is you can feel it. You can feel the passion, the hard work, the trust I had to build with myself when nobody else believed in me. You can feel the resilience it took to get back up after every ‘no’, every failure, every closed door. This isn’t a copy-and-paste story. This is a blueprint written in blood, sweat, tears, and love. And that’s what separates it. It’s real. It’s raw. It’s rooted. It’s a guide to help another father build better relationships with his kids. I’m saying that I am an expert, I’m just sharing some things that worked for me.
Why now? Because there’s somebody out there right now who needs to hear this. There’s somebody who’s one ‘yes’ away from changing their whole life, and maybe hearing my story is what gives them the courage to keep going. I’m not doing this just for me. I’m doing this for every kid who ever sat in the back of the room, quietly dreaming, quietly hurting, quietly hoping for a chance. At the end of the day, I’m just a living, breathing reminder that your past doesn’t define you, your purpose does. I wasn’t supposed to make it. If you looked at where I started, every statistic said I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you today. But here’s what I learned, dreams don’t work unless you do. Faith without grind is just a wish.
I’m not here because everything went right, I’m here because when it went wrong, I kept showing up. So if you’re watching this, listening to this, doubting yourself, don’t you dare quit. Don’t you dare count yourself out. There’s somebody out there waiting on the gift only you can bring to the world. Keep believing. Keep building. And most of all, keep betting on yourself, because you’re worth it. Always have been. Always will be.
SM - Who was a part of this project that contributed to its success? Honestly? Just me. And I say that humbly but truthfully. Sometimes you gotta walk your path alone before anybody else sees the vision. I was my own team, my own cheerleader, my own backup plan. And even though it was hard, it taught me that everything I needed to win was already inside of me. I had to believe it before anybody else could. That’s not to say that people weren’t cheering for me, but this was all me.
SM - What is the inspiration behind what you do? My inspiration is simple, my story is my inspiration. I want to be the best me possible. Not for clout, not for fame, but for the kid who’s sitting somewhere right now thinking they’re not good enough. I want to show them that greatness isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being persistent. I want to leave something behind that says, “If you come from the bottom, if you feel forgotten, if you’re doubted, you can still win.” I’m trying to leave footprints deep enough that somebody else can follow. I still feel like I’m not good enough at times.
SM - What are some other things people can expect from you in the near future?
This is just the beginning. You can expect another book, this time peeling back layers about my life story, my struggles, my breakthroughs. I’m also bringing a new stage play to life called “The Cost of Love.” It’s going to dig deep into the choices we make for love and the price we pay for it. And beyond that, there are some other projects in the works, more opportunities for people to see that no matter where you start, you can finish strong. I’m still growing regardless of the people who I thought would support, don’t and the support that I thought I would get from my city. There are some people that support me in my city, but I think we are a city that gravitates to popularity and not quality.
SM - Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
This means everything to me because I know what it feels like to be written off. I grew up in the heart of the inner-city. My safe place was my church, but even there, I had adults tell me I wouldn’t amount to anything because I didn’t fit their idea of what a “good young man” looked like. Imagine being told at a young age that you’re destined to fail, by people who were supposed to lift you up. That could’vebroken me. But it didn’t, well, I didn’t let it.
Grief is a lonely road, but when you have the right people beside you, the weight of it feels a little lighter. When my significant other, (Mike), encouraged me to take a second job at BevMo, I thought it was about financial stability—about having the extra means to help re-launch my children’s book in 2025 or 2026. I never imagined that job would give me something far greater: a family of coworkers who would stand beside me in one of the hardest moments of my life. When Mike passed away last year, my world shattered. But before I could even fall, my coworkers at BevMo—Manny, Steve, Katie, Megan, Sara, Juan, Michael, Jackson, and Ms. J— were there, ready to catch me. They were not just people I worked with; they became my support system, my safe place. In so many businesses, coworkers come and go, relationships stay surface-level, and the workplace remains just that—a workplace. But with them, it was different. They didn’t just offer condolences and move on. They wrapped me in love, kindness, and understanding.
They gave me space to grieve when I needed it, but they also pulled me back into life when I started to slip too far into my sorrow. Whether it was a simple check-in, a shared moment of laughter, or just standing beside me in silence when words weren’t enough, they made sure I never felt alone. Their support wasn’t just about the work we did together; it was about the hearts they shared with me.
Grief has a way of making the world feel cold and distant, but my BevMo family reminded me that warmth still exists. They reminded me that even in the darkest times, love finds a way to shine through. Their compassion helped me keep going— not just for myself, but for the dreams Mike and I had planned. Losing Mike was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced, but finding a family within my coworkers made all the difference. They were my shoulders to lean on, my strength when I had none, and my light in the dark. And for that, I will always be grateful.
SM- What values are important to you when it comes to building your business?
Beyond work responsibilities, small acts of kindness can go a long way. Checking in, offering a listening ear, or even just acknowledging the loss rather than avoiding the topic can help. Some people might not want to talk about their grief, but knowing their coworkers are there if needed can be comforting.
SM- What is one final thought that you want to leave with our readers?
A workplace cannot take away grief, but it can either add stress or provide relief. Being a supportive coworker means being compassionate, patient, and present. Sometimes, that’s exactly what someone needs to get through the hardest days.

My motivational factor is having Rah as my clothing designer and my supporter.
The most challenging thing I had to over come was stage fright I was always too nervous to put myself out there. My appearance and the way I portray myself as a model is my most important value. Rah is the one who contributed this for me if it weren’t for him, I would not have the motivation like I do now. People can expect a lot from me as a person especially the way I value myself. My final thought I’d like to leave for my viewers and fans is I thank you all who take time out your lives to support me as the future model I am trying to become! I love you all and you all are my #1 fans; I’d have no fan base without y’all!

SM- What message are you hoping to get across to the people by doing what you do?
To readers, your support means everything, and I can’t wait for you to experience the “Sable Ridge” series. The journey is just beginning! Remember, dreams are meant to be chased, and success comes to those who are willing to step out of their comfort zones. Keep believing in yourself, stay persistent, and never be afraid to write your own story, both on the page and in life!
SM- Tell us about what you’re promoting and the details around it?
I am currently promoting a series called Sable Ridge, which will include four books. The first installment is already available on Amazon. This series is a collaboration between me and author ChellyP, and it’s different from the urban fiction we both typically write. We’re incredibly excited about this project, especially since the book has made the charts in categories we never expected. Seeing readers embrace Sable Ridge in such a big way has been both thrilling and humbling!
SM- What’s unique about this that separates it from the rest?
When it comes to building a business, integrity, consistency, and passion are the most important values to me. Integrity ensures that every decision is made with honesty and a strong ethical foundation, building trust. Consistency is key to long-term success, staying committed, showing up, and delivering quality work keeps a brand strong. Passion is what fuels everything; without it, the work becomes empty.
SM- Who was a part of this project that contributed to its success?
While my readers are the heart of my success, this campaign wouldn’t have been possible without a strong support system. My co-author, ChellyP, brought fresh ideas and creative energy to the project, making our collaboration seamless. Additionally, having a solid network of people who believe in my vision, whether it’s behind the scenes with marketing, offering words of encouragement, or helping spread the word, played a huge role. This journey has shown me the power of teamwork and the impact of having the right people in your corner.
SM- What is the inspiration behind what you do?
My biggest motivation comes from the readers, their support, feedback, and enthusiasm for the stories I create. Knowing that my work resonates
with people, whether it’s through gripping storylines, relatable characters, or unexpected twists, keeps me pushing forward. I’m also driven by a passion for storytelling and the challenge of stepping outside my comfort zone, like with Sable Ridge, which is a shift from my usual urban fiction. Seeing the impact of my work, especially when it reaches unexpected audiences or charts in surprising categories, fuels my determination to keep growing and evolving as a writer.
SM- What are some other things people can expect from you in the near future?
There are three more installments in the Sable Ridge series that we are putting our all into, and they will be released soon. Each book, Asonta, Ayken, and Ayden tells a unique story, yet together, they complete the Sable Ridge series. Readers can expect compelling narratives, deep character development, and plenty of twists that will keep them hooked until the very end. Stay tuned, there’s so much more to come!
SM- Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
The most challenging thing I had to overcome to get where I am now was stepping out of my comfort zone. As a writer, it’s easy to stick to what’s familiar, but growth comes from pushing boundaries and taking creative risks. Venturing into a new genre was both exciting and intimidating, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Embracing change, trusting the process, and believing in my ability to adapt has helped me reach new heights in my writing career.

The opportunity to influence change, inspire others, and help create more inclusive and equitable spaces is both humbling and motivating. It’s a rewarding journey that drives me to keep learning, growing, and advocating for a better future for all.
SM- What are some other things people can expect from you in the near future?
Up next: Educators Rise Voices of Change Anthology Volume 2. I’m looking for 10-15 authors to start the process in May 2025.
SM- Why is this so valuable to you? And why now?
I’ve faced many challenges throughout my career. Here are some key challenges and how I’ve overcome them:
One of the main challenges is addressing diverse audiences with varying levels of understanding and perspectives on rducation and DEI topics. It’s essential to communicate complex ideas in an accessible way without diluting the message’s importance.
How I Overcame It: I tailored my presentations and writings to meet the needs of different groups. I used relatable analogies, shared personal stories, and provided actionable steps to ensure the content resonated with everyone. I also continually sought feedback to improve my delivery and content relevance.
2. Resistance to Change
Another challenge is encountering resistance from individuals or organizations reluctant to embrace DEI initiatives. This resistance can stem from fear, misinformation, or a lack of understanding.
How I Overcame It: I approached resistance with empathy and patience, understanding that change can be uncomfortable. I focused on building trust by highlighting the benefits of DEI, providing evidence-based research, and sharing success stories from other organizations. I also encouraged open dialogue, allowing people to express their concerns and questions.
3. Staying Current with Evolving Trends
The fields of education and DEI are constantly evolving, with new research, policies, and best practices emerging regularly. Staying informed and updated can be challenging.
How I Overcame It: I committed to continuous learning by attending conferences, engaging in professional development, and participating in academic and industry networks. I also collaborated with other experts and practitioners to exchange knowledge and insights, ensuring that my work remains relevant and impactful.
4. Balancing Multiple Roles
Balancing the roles of an author, speaker, and consultant can be challenging, as each requires a different set of skills and time commitments.
How I Overcame It: I developed strong organizational and time-management skills, prioritizing tasks and setting realistic goals. I also built a support network of colleagues, mentors, and assistants who helped manage various aspects of my work. This allowed me to focus on creating high-quality content and delivering impactful presentations.
5. Addressing Sensitive Topics
Discussing sensitive topics such as race, gender, and discrimination can be challenging, as these subjects often evoke strong emotions and opinions.
How I Overcame It: I approached these topics with sensitivity and respect, creating safe spaces for dialogue. I used evidence-based information and emphasized the importance of empathy and understanding. By framing discussions in a constructive and positive manner, I aimed to foster a sense of shared purpose and collective growth.

Doris has a master’s degree in psychology with a concentration in applied behavior analysis. She was born in Highland Park, Michigan and raised in Detroit. Being the survivor of epilepsy and an abusive relationship has afforded her the opportunity to be the proud recipient of the Women’s Independence Scholarship Program (WISP) and speak about domestic violence at many venues, including the historical Wayne State University. This was the opened door that Doris needed to walk into so many other rooms. She discovered her love for writing early on in her life, first by falling in love with the writings of Dr. Suess. What piqued her interest more was reading The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland. Doris was delighted by word play and intrigued by symbolism. Not only does she write for children, but she also escapes into the throws of passion, some poison, magic, some tragic, romance, drama, and comedy novels. She has been recognized for my work in over 15 publications including: Pretty Women Hustle, Today’s Purpose Woman, Issu, Stardom 101, Voyage Michigan, Canvas Rebel, Bold Journey, seven story Publishing, Manic World Magazine, Shout Out, and graced the cover of Independent Artist Magazine. She is the host of the Everything Doris Show on Gynesis Radio Network and the Did You See What I Saw podcast. Additionally, Doris has several literary greats underneath her belt. The available titles include Love Sucks, Black Tye Affair, Covert Significance, Flower Behind the Brick Wall, Ashes in the Name, Devoted Secret, Candi’s Superpower, Testing the Water, and Pretty Punishment. “Loved or hated, but never ignored” Task
Southern Illinois-based hip-hop artist Task. a.k.a. Tha Mad Rapper, is best known for his award-winning anthems, energetic live shows, and unmatched lyrical abilities. With pinpoint delivery and catchy choruses, his music draws influence from artists like Lil’ Wayne, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, and 50 Cent. He has opened for artists such as Young Buck, Gangsta Boo, and Bushwick Bill, as well as collaborating with underground hip-hop sensations like Dub-Z and Comp DaGreat. Task’s work has found him performing at several sold-out red-carpet events, including the Big Motion Music Awards shows and the Hospice of Southern Illinois’ charity galas. His songs “Cocky” and “Hate Me” have both been voted the Rap/Hip-hop Song of the Year the last two years in a row.
SM- Tell us about what you’re currently promoting?
I released my latest two songs in November 2024, “Hate Me” and “Wussup Wit It” (ft. Chris Vegas x Dub-Z). “Hate Me” became an award-winning single, and “Wussup Wit It” has become my most streamed song on Spotify. I also released a remix to Tyga’s “Taste” in March of 2025, which has received amazing reviews.
SM- What continues to be the motivational factor for you?
This is what I love to do. Making music and performing on stage give me a rush that I truly can’t describe.
SM- What was the most challenging thing you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
Getting my name and my music out there has been the biggest obstacle. A&Rs aren’t scouring Southern Illinois, in hopes of finding the next big rapper. Thankfully, with the help of my wife/manager, Heather Smith, I’ve been able to really expand my audience and accolades significantly.
SM- What values are important to you when it comes to building your business?
I love this business, and my drive and work ethic show that. It’s important to me that those I work with are equally as driven. I’ve spent far too much valuable time waiting on people who were never going to meet that standard.
SM- Was there anyone in your circle that contributed to making this campaign a success?
My manager, Heather, has played an unimaginable role in my current, and continued, success in this industry. My audio engineer and hip-hop artist, Chris Vegas, has also been invaluable in making sure that my songs match my vision. The same can be said of Wayne B, who has produced many of the beats I’ve
used. Finally, Dub-Z has played a big role, from giving me a stage to perform on, at his venue BSpill’s, to performing with me at red carpet events.
SM- What can people expect from you next?
I have a new single that will be released in May 2025, called “What You Wanna Do.” I’m also working on my debut album, “The Task at Hand”, which will drop this year.
SM- What is one final thought that you want to leave with our readers? If you like my music, stream it. Come out to shows. Buy merchandise. Let others know about it, via social media or even word of mouth. Tammy Wallace is a multifaceted artist and advocate dedicated to empowering others through her creative endeavors and personal experiences. As a children’s book author, poet, painter, model, and abuse advocate, she utilizes her talents to inspire and support emotional and mental well-being. In her earlier years, Tammy achieved national recognition as a track and field athlete, ranking third in the nation. However, her journey was marked by personal challenges, including experiences of abuse. Drawing strength from these hardships, Tammy transformed her pain into purpose, becoming a vocal advocate for abuse survivors. Through public speaking and outreach, she shares her story to empower others to break free from cycles of abuse and reclaim their lives.
Tammy’s literary works focus on imparting valuable life lessons to young readers. Her book “Pickle Patty” celebrates kindness and the joy of sharing, illustrating how simple acts of generosity can create a world of smiles. Another notable work, “Sasha Lynn Big Dreams: Inspiring Youth to Reach for the Stars,” encourages children to pursue their aspirations, reinforcing the belief that no dream is too big. Beyond her writing, Tammy engages in various forms of artistic expression, including painting and modeling. Her commitment to advocacy and art has been recognized in media outlets such as InTHEknow360, where she discussed her journey from athletics to advocacy and the role of art in her healing process. Tammy’s resilience and dedication make her a beacon of hope and inspiration, demonstrating the transformative power of turning personal trials into avenues for helping others.
SM- Tell us about what you’re currently promoting?
Tammy Wallace, author and advocate, brings warmth, wisdom, and inspiration to every page with her heart-driven children’s books. Her stories are not only imaginative and fun—they also teach powerful life lessons that children and families can carry forever.
“Sasha Lynn: Big Dreams” is a heartfelt reminder to every young reader that no dream is too big. This empowering book encourages children to believe in themselves, reach for the stars, and understand that with hard work and confidence, anything is possible. It’s more than just a story—it’s a blueprint for believing in yourself. “Pickle Patty” captures the joy of kindness, sharing, and simple acts of love. This charming tale shows how one little girl’s generous spirit creates smiles that stretch across her community. It’s a sweet reminder that the smallest actions can make the biggest difference.
Both books reflect Tammy’s mission: to plant seeds of hope, courage, and compassion in the hearts of the next generation. As an abuse advocate and creative force, Tammy uses storytelling as a healing tool—showing kids they can dream big, live boldly, and spread kindness wherever they go.
SM- What continues to be the motivational factor for you?
Tammy Wallace’s greatest motivation stems from a deep, personal mission to turn pain into purpose. Having survived the trauma of abuse and overcome significant life challenges, she made a vow—not just to heal, but to help others do the same. Her life experiences ignited a powerful desire to become a voice for those who feel silenced, unseen, or unheard. As an author, Tammy’s motivation lies in planting seeds of confidence, kindness, and courage in the minds of children. Her books, like “Sasha Lynn: Big Dreams” and “Pickle Patty,” are reflections of her belief that stories can shape the future. She writes to remind young readers that they are capable, worthy, and full of potential, no matter what their circumstances look like today. As an advocate, Tammy is driven by a calling to break the cycles of abuse, silence, and fear. She uses her platform to empower survivors to speak their truth, find healing, and reclaim their strength. Through public speaking, community work, and personal outreach, she stands as living proof that your past does not define your future. Tammy’s journey from survivor to storyteller, from pain to power, is what fuels her every step. Her motivating factor is simple but profound: to make sure that no child, no woman, and no soul feels alone in their fight. She’s here to remind the world—healing is possible, dreams are valid, and every voice matters.
SM- What was the most challenging thing you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
Tammy Wallace’s life is a powerful testament to perseverance, strength, and the unbreakable spirit of a woman determined to rise. Her journey has not been easy—but it has been transformative. Tammy faced the devastating reality of abuse at a young age, enduring trauma that could have silenced her forever. The emotional, mental, and physical toll left deep scars— but instead of letting it define her, she chose to confront it, heal from it, and speak out against it. One of her greatest challenges was learning to rebuild her self-worth after being broken by those she once trusted. In addition to personal trauma, Tammy overcame the societal stigma that often silences abuse survivors. It took immense courage for her to share her story publicly, knowing the risk of judgment but understanding the greater value of freeing others through truth.
Tammy also faced challenges navigating her identity as a creative woman with big dreams. From pushing through self-doubt to breaking into the literary world, she had to fight to be seen—not just as a survivor, but as a storyteller, an artist, a mother, and a powerful advocate. Through it all, Tammy chose resilience. She turned her challenges into her calling, using every obstacle as fuel to inspire others. Today, she stands not only as an accomplished author of uplifting children’s books like “Pickle Patty” and “Sasha Lynn: Big Dreams,” but also as a fierce advocate who is changing lives—one truth, one story, and one act of courage at a time. Tammy’s challenges didn’t break her. They built the foundation of a woman who now walks boldly in her purpose— reminding others that healing is possible and hope is real.
SM- What values are important to you when it comes to building your business?

God gave me a purpose, so I am enough!
MINISTER Delandra Tarsvena Peterson
Mother, Minister, Songwriter, Actress, Author and Business Owner
Purpose is something Delendra TarsaVena always questioned, but music was always in her spirit. With a singing and musical family, her interest in music was inevitable. Her musical memories travel back to her mother singing at their homes in Selma and Linden, AL. The beauty of her mother’s voice would rock and console her hurting soul. Before Delendra was born, her mother, Mary Peterson, was in a gospel group with her family and was offered chance to receive a recording contract from a major record company. However, she selflessly declined because she deemed her family was more important than traveling and fame. Not listening to her parents, TarsaVena got married young and had two beautiful children. While completing her BA in Music at Judson College, her marriage of 7 years ended. Not listening to her parents; a second time, she got married to her singing partner, Cedric “Mr. Setitoff” Haywood. The singing duo met Mel Waiters, a Southern Soul Blues singer, left everything behind to follow their dreams of having a music career in San Antonio, TX, and completed an album on Waiters’ record label, Brittney Records, entitled Soul Time. With no guidance and no artist development, the project did not do as the group, Hog Pin, had hoped. TarsaVena and her husband went back to Alabama, completed a second album entitled End of the Rainbow on their own label (HUM Music), generated online sales and completed their first tour.
When things began to take off, the couple started facing marital issues. With her husband having an outside child on the way, the group broke up. It was through these life experiences that she began to realize her purpose and to pour her emotions into her own music. From this storm, her inspirational project, Life is not Gone, was birthed with the help of Toney Nixon. Her singles, I’m Calling, Still Listening, and This I Do, landed her many concerts; 8 television news interviews; a major role in the movie, Plus Size Divas; 2 compilation CDs with First Choice Gospel Records (TN); an appearance on Bobby Jones, on Artist Fest during the 2016 Stellar Awards and 2 appearances on Atlanta Live; 4 gospel awards from S & M Gospel Indie Awards in May 2015 along with 1 gospel award in May 2016 and 1 gospel award from Block Buster Showcase Music Awards.
On March 17, 2017, along with her daughter, Kyasia Chaney, she released a book, Diary of a Hurt and Confused Wife, which landed her 6 news interviews and 2 additional appearances on Atlanta Live. From there, she started a TV show, The New Indie Gospel Show, which aired on The NOW Network, VSC TV, Alabama Word Network and currently on The OnPoint Network. Her purpose found her and was ordained in ministry on March 25, 2018. The following May, she released the book, One Last Try, with her co-author, Bishop Marcus D. Hill. In August 2018, with the encouragement of Ryan Dimitri Bowser, she started a streaming TV Channel, The OnPoint Channel and Network, which later evolved into The OnPoint Network TV. The OnPoint Network TV has grown into establishing a filming studio, The OP Studios ,in Linden, AL where TarsaVena T Films has developed several documentaries, movies and TV Shows, including a spin-off to her book, One Last Try. One of the documentaries, Blowin’ Up: The Chasity D. Barnes Story, has won several awards from Bite Size Film Festival, Spotlight Documentary Film Festival and The OPN Awards. One of the movies, Just Love Me (2021), was given the chance to be presented in several major theater chains along with several Alabama theaters and Drive-In theaters.
In 2024, TarsaVena released her next book, Watered Down Men. She is currently promoting it and touring. Her recent documentary, Cultural Shift: Redefining Mental Health in Black Lives, was produced with Amanda Barnes Granger in hopes of shining the light on mental health in the black community. Through all her trials and tribulations, PURPOSE found her.
Tell us about what you’re currently promoting?
I am currently promoting my new book, Watered Down Men. This book isn’t downplaying anyone, especially our brown (African American) women nor men, but it’s to improve our community, to enrich our lives and to grow up our young men in a positive environment. I saw there was a big difference in my father’s generation and the current generation of men. In a since, men have become watered down; kind of how your drink gets “watered down” from too much ice.
I am also promoting a documentary that my streaming TV network, The OnPoint Network TV, released called Cultural Shift: Redefining Mental Health in Black Lives. Mental health is often a silent battle, especially in the Black community. Cultural Shift: Redefining Mental Health in Black Lives brings to light the deeply personal stories of Mary Jones, Pamela Short, and Monique White—three individuals who have navigated loss, resilience, and recovery. Their courage in sharing their experiences helps break the stigma surrounding mental health. We are also honored to have Dr. Tandrea Elmore whom provide her expert insight into the unique mental health struggles within the African American community. Additionally, Durrell McKinnon, Robert Watts, Octavious Palmer, and Timothy Bibb open up about their own mental health journeys as Black men, shedding light on the stereotypes and challenges they face. Through these powerful narratives, we hope to spark change, encourage open conversations, and redefine what mental health means in Black lives.
Yet, I am still promoting my other two books as well, Diary of a Hurt and Confused Wife and One Last Try. These books are still doing great, and each have their own purpose in the world. What continues to be the motivational factor for you?
The motivational factors for me are my children. When I had my children, my father said to me that my life was no longer mine. Ever since then, I try my best to do things that will motivate my children. I want my children to see me in a way that encourages them, like my mom never gave up no matter her circumstances. She gave it her all. I want them to see that even when things are hard and you keep trying that things will eventually work for your good.
What was the most challenging thing you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
The most challenging thing I had to overcome to get to where I am now was not thinking I was enough. I am the youngest sibling with 3 older brothers. They are all amazing at what they do, and people always saw me at the Peterson Boys’ little sister. Even though I never showed it, my self-esteem was very low. I allowed myself to go through so much negative things that I never told my family nor friends about. Yet, being a Peterson, I couldn’t let the world see me depressed nor defeated, so I smiled my way through everything. Until one day, God showed me that I was always worthy. Now, I use my life to help others who are feeling this way. You are enough. God thought enough of you to bring you to this world. You have a purpose, and so do I. Repeat with me… I am enough!!!
What values are important to you when it comes to building your business?
The values that are important to me when building my businesses are persistence and integrity. When it seems like your business is going to fail, both of these values are hard to maintain. You find it hard to be persistent when you don’t have the funding you need for your business, when you are so tired from working long hours to complete a task, or when you become sick but you realize you are one of the main employees. However, you have to find a way to be persistent. When something fails, try something else. Talk to successful business owners and see what they did for their businesses. Stay vigilant at learning new things to grow your business. Integrity is also hard when you see others doing wrong and they seem to be prospering. No matter what try your best to do right. If circumstances in your life causes you to mess up or not be able to follow through for a client, then make sure to apologize and find a way to fix things. I have to admit that on my journey that I have failed many clients. I am still reaching out to clients from my past to see how I can repair things with them. No one is perfect. Sometimes, depression, grief, sickness, etc. will cause you to not do your job to the best of your ability. When you realize this, try to fix it.
Was there anyone in your circle that contributed to making this campaign a success?
There were several people that contributed to making my businesses successful. I am thankful to have an amazing circle. Yes, sometimes, you realize that you have to switch up your circle, because there are people there only for appearance, but I have learned when and how to remove them. My consistent circle has always been my children, Kyasia and Bryce. They have been physically working with me since they were 3 and 2 years old. Yes, they were burning and selling my CDs and DVDs at a young age. It’s funny, but true. They have been my best promoters of everything I do along with my late parents, Rev. Joe James Peterson, Sr. and Mrs. Mary M. J. Peterson. My current church family, the members of Small Memorial AME Zion Church in Demopolis, Alabama, are like my family and have supported me in everything I do. The Blackbelt Area of Alabama, especially Linden, Alabama, has been a great support. Recently, God placed a wonderful man, Kelvin Cook, in my life who gives his time, energy, talents and funds to helping me achieve what I do. All of these people work together to help me be successful and to grow. What can people expect from you next?
Next… Well, I am not really sure what God has planned for me, but… . I am working on some endeavors that I pray will push forward dealing with movies, documentaries and my nonprofit, The OP Art Foundation. I am also currently working on a series of books featuring my father, the late Rev. Joe James Peterson, Sr. I want to build generational wealth with these series of books and leave behind the legacy that my father set forth.
What is one final thought that you want to leave with our readers?
The final thoughts I would like to leave with your readers are that you might not be where you wish to be in life. I truly get it and understand how it feels. Yet, sometimes what you wish for; you’re not ready for. Learn as much as you can about your gifts and craft. Learn every aspect of it, so when it’s your time, you’re ready to show the world why you are here. God gave you a purpose, so you are enough!
