OUT AND ABOUT

RAINBOW LAKE JETTY INSTALLATION

We’re excited to share that installation of the new jetty at Rainbow Lake is officially complete! The new all-abilities access jetty provides a safe, stable and welcoming spot for everyone to enjoy the lake, whether you're fishing or just soaking in the view.

This project has been funded by the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Large Grants Program, Hindmarsh Shire Council and the hardworking volunteers at the Rainbow Lake.

The jetty, located at the southern end of the lake, measures 12m long by 2.85m wide and includes a safety rail around the perimeter and rod holders. A galvanised steel frame and composite decking will ensure minimal maintenance is required.

You may notice there is currently a step to get onto the jetty. The Rainbow Lake committee will be constructing a concrete footpath level with the jetty so that it is accessible for all abilities.

RAINBOW LLEW SCHILLING SILO UPDATE

We're making progress on the Llew Schilling Silo project in Rainbow, with more of the structural elements coming together over the past week. The photos show the elevator shaft being delivered - Rainbow locals should see it lifted in place by crane in the next little while!

As a reminder, the elevator enables all-abilities access to the viewing platforms at this one-of-akind Silo Art activation. Once the elevator is in, the stairs and platforms will be installed.

NEW CABINS FOR NHILL HOLIDAY PARK

Hindmarsh Shire Council is excited to announce that funding has been secured to deliver significant upgrades to Nhill Holiday Park, thanks to support from the Victorian Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund 2024.

This investment will support the installation of three modern, selfcontained one-bedroom studio cabins, enhancing accommodation options for visitors to the region. Conveniently located near Nhill Lake, the Little Desert, Lake Hindmarsh, and a range of local arts, cultural and natural attractions, the park is ideally positioned to welcome more tourists and boost the local economy

Hindmarsh Shire Libraries are vibrant hubs for information, connection, creativity and fun!

Becoming a member of Hindmarsh Shire Libraries is FREE!

Our four branches across Hindmarsh Shire not only have physical books for you to borrow, but we have free access to Wi-Fi and public computers, audiobook CDs, magazines, e-Books and e-Audiobook apps for your digital device, movie and series screening apps, electronic graphic novels and comics, e-Magazines and so much more! If you haven’t checked out your nearest library yet - why not pop in and meet the library team!

“I am mainly drawn to non-fiction titles and ‘Scrubbed’ by Dr Nikki Stamp was a good read. Scrubbed isn’t held by our library but the book or CD-Audiobook can be ordered in by one of our friendly librarians from other libraries within the Public Libraries Victoria system.”

Hindmarsh Shire Libraries is committed to building full, comprehensive and exciting collections and curations of both our physical and digital resources.

As a result, we have made the decision to move our e-Book and e-Audiobook titles to a single platform. From Tuesday1July2025, we will discontinue our affiliation with e-Resource provider ‘Libby’ and move solely to the use of ‘BorrowBox’.

This change will allow us to focus on building a larger collection in one space and growing our digital catalogue.

OTHER NEWS

Council hosted free breakfast BBQs in Nhill, Dimboola, Rainbow and Jeparit throughout National Volunteers Week to thank all the hardworking volunteers in our community.

Council appreciates all that our volunteers do to make Hindmarsh a wonderful place to live, work and stay. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
