FUNDING SECURED FOR KEY STRATEGIC SPORT AND RECREATION MASTER PLANS
Hindmarsh Shire Council is excited to have received funding for the development of key strategic sport and recreation master plans 2025-2035. With $40,000 received through the State Government, and $45,000 contributed by Council, master plans will be developed for Nhill’s Davis Park, the Dimboola Recreation Reserve, and the Jeparit Tennis Club and Caravan Park Precinct.
The proposed master plan for Davis Park will replace previous plans that were developed as part of the 2016 Nhill Community Precinct Plan and the plan development by Nhill and District Sporting Club in 2021.
The development of a master plan for the Dimboola Recreation Reserve has been a Council and user group priority for several years. With at least eight user groups, plus public use within the reserve, it is imperative that any future proposed developments include multi-use, gender equality and all abilities access considerations.
The Jeparit Tennis Club currently has six tennis courts, three are not usable and three require an upgrade. The preferred outcome is to have a total of four tennis courts, and it is envisaged that with the two courts being removed this will enable the expansion of the powered sites and non-powered sites for the Jeparit Caravan Park.
Council will liaise with Davis Park, Dimboola Recreation Reserve, and Jeparit Tennis Courts user group committees when developing these master plans.
COMMUNITY SATISFACTION RESULTS ARE IN!
The survey gives us valuable insight into what’s working well and where we can improve - and we’re thrilled to see higher-than-average results in 15 out of 19 service areas, compared to other small rural Victorian councils.
Ourstrongestresultswerein:
Appearance of Public Areas
Waste Management
Recreational Facilities
This reflects the efforts of not just Council, but the incredible contributions of local volunteers, clubs, businesses, and residents who help keep our towns beautiful.
We're also listening to where we can do better and have already begun work to improve:
Elderly Support Services – continuing social connection programs and planning Seniors events
Planning and Building – increased resourcing to support enquiries and permit processing
Local Laws Enforcement – increased focus on issues like cat overpopulation
Slashing & Weed Control – new Landcare
Facilitator role now in place
Sealed and Unsealed Local Roads – $4.15m investment planned in 2025/2026 for critical upgrades
