CLIMATE ADAPTION STRATEGY 2024-2036

At the Council meeting held on Wednesday 28 August 2024, Hindmarsh Shire Council resolved to adopt the Climate Adaption Strategy 2024 –2036.

This document presents a refresh of Hindmarsh Shire’s 2012 Climate Adaptation Strategy by summarising recent and long-term climate trends and the accepted outlook for future climatic changes. It presents practical strategies and actions for which Council can make a meaningful contribution in offsetting potential adverse impacts from climate change and severe climate events.

Hindmarsh Shire’s economy and its rural communities are strongly affected by changes in climate. Climate determines the health of broadacre agriculture and agribusiness supply chains and livability in the Shire’s towns, but we are also aware that the impacts of climate change can exacerbate existing inequalities and disadvantage.

To view the Climate Adaption Strategy 2024-2036, you can scan the QR code.

Alternatively, you can view it on Council’s website at www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/pl ans-and-strategies

PROJECT UPDATES

NEW PLAYGROUNDS INSTALLED IN NHILL & JEPARIT

Playground upgrades at Jaypex Park and the Jeparit Riverbank Precinct are now completed. Following a safety inspection of the Nhill playground, it was identified that the playground equipment did not meet current safety standards and would require replacement. While Council aimed to ensure like for like replacement, some componentswereunavailable.

The upgraded Jaypex Park equipment includes a small slide, fireman’s pole, climbing steps and a small shop area underneathforimaginativeplayfortheyoungerages.

The upgrade of the Jeparit Swimming Hole playground features 2 slides, 2 swings, a fireman’s pole, boat rocker, climbing web and hang and glide, with pool fencing all the wayaround.

We look forward to young people of all ages stopping into ourparkstoenjoythesenewspaces!

NHILL AERODROME WORKS

Council has been successful in receiving grant funding through the Federal Government’s Regional Airports Program (Round 3) which has allowed us to upgrade the pavement and drainage within the taxiway at the Nhill Aerodrome These improvement works will allow safer access to the aerodrome for vital emergency services and aircrafts.

Works include stabilisation, re sealing, concrete drainage and upgrading vehicle access.
