Selected ESG key figures 2023/24

HIN A/S' climate accounts provide an overview of the most important sources of greenhouse gas emissions from the company, which primarily come from transport to our many customers throughout the country.

To create a further overview in connection with our work to optimise our energy consumption and lower the climate footprint, we have chosen to include several ESG key figures from, among other things, air travel and purchased IT equipment. ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance and is the standard for how companies should report on the status of their sustainability work. Detailed ESG ratios are provided on page 14.

We offer service agreements on several levels, which may include advice from our suppliers as well as on-site problem solving in case of production stoppages. We can offer TPM online solutions that help increase production efficiency, eliminate errors and waste of resources, and ultimately can help create more sustainable working methods.

and passionate professional team

Our team of experts has years of experience in designing, building, optimising, and operating SMT production lines. We are certified and continuously participate in continuing education in order to offer the best possible service and advice to our customers.

Process optimisation

In the service department, we are specialists in service and process optimisation on all our products. We, ourselves, have experience in building and operating SMT production lines. We can therefore offer advice in process optimisation and add value to customers' production teams, for example by implementing products and equipment that can reduce energy consumption by up to 70 %.

Expert advice on ESD

The environment and the ESD environment are crucial for the quality of electronics production. We know more about this than most. We collaborate with some of the leading international experts. Over the past ten years, we have performed more than 100,000 m2 of ESD flooring at our customers. With ESD floors, the risk of unpleasant shocks from static electricity is reduced. In addition to creating a better working environment, this is also one of the basic necessities for proper ESD protection of many productions.

Sustainability internally in HIN A/S – highlights

In line with the increasing environmental requirements, and with the desire to contribute to the green transition ourselves, we, at HIN A/S, have implemented a number of initiatives. It is important to take responsibility and contribute where we can. This ESG report helps us shed light on relevant areas.

Implemented energy-saving measures in HIN A/S:

• We have set up five charging stations for electric cars that can be used by our customers and our company cars. Company cars are gradually changed to EV or EHV cars for improved carbon footprint. Transport to customers is our largest emission item in the climate accounts.

Social initiatives in HIN A/S:

• Taking social and educational responsibility matters at HIN A/S.

• There must be room for everyone in the labour market, and at HIN A/S, we have an inclusive initiative. Over the past two years, we have had two good and valuable colleagues who are employed on special terms. We also have employees who, at their own request, are part-time employees.

• We have a well-established working environment organisation (AMO) in accordance with legislation.

• As part of our ongoing commitment to social responsibility, HIN A/S has introduced a new initiative in our HR policy. All employees aged 60 and above will be offered a personal Senior Talk with the owner. This conversation provides an opportunity for employees to actively participate in planning their retirement, ensuring a smooth and respectful transition from the workforce, tailored to their individual needs and preferences.

• We also prioritise investing in the local community and annually sponsor association work where there is a focus on community and socialising in nature-rich surroundings, especially for children and young people.

• Supporting as a sponsor is also an opportunity to take social responsibility and help others who need it. At HIN A/S, we support several aid organisations, including children with cancer, sports organisations, the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, the Red Cross, and emergency aid to Ukraine.

Sustainability internally in HIN A/S – highlights

Future energy-saving and social measures:

• With the mentioned connection to district heating throughout the warehouse in 2023, we will reduce our climate footprint in the coming period. By switching from oil to district heating, we are converting to an energy source that is both cheaper and far more environmentally friendly.

• In the long term, we are considering switching more of our company cars to electric cars. Furthermore, we encourage our employees to switch the private car from combustion to EV.

• Taking social and local responsibility matters at HIN A/S. Therefore, we will continue to focus on employing, for example, interns and employees who have special employment needs.

• Helping with sponsorships and the like will also continue to be a priority for us.

More energy-optimising products in our range:

The opportunities to contribute to the green transition and, for example, buy more energy-optimising or greener products are continuously increasing. At HIN A/S, we focus on including more of these products in the range.

Technology is constantly evolving, and our range also includes flexible collaborative solutions that can streamline and relieve our industrial customers and thus help create a better, safer, and less stressful working environment.

Our consultants are updated with the latest knowledge so they always can help find the most optimal solution – and at the same time often help our customers contribute to the green transition.

Celebrating our employees at HIN A/S

At HIN A/S, we believe in celebrating our most valuable asset— our employees. In addition to investing in their development and providing a flexible work environment, we take pride in recognising their dedication and contributions.

After 10 years of service, employees receive a special gift from the company. But we are especially proud to celebrate those who have been with us for more than 25 years—some even surpassing 40 years. These long-serving colleagues bring an invaluable wealth of knowledge to both customers and fellow employees, creating a rich knowledge base that benefits everyone.

We also celebrate and gladly hire individuals approaching retirement, as we recognise the immense value of their knowledge and experience, which continues to benefit both the company and their colleagues. Their expertise provides an opportunity for all of us to learn and grow.

At HIN A/S, fostering a sense of community and ensuring job satisfaction are essential elements of our culture.

Supplier Code of Conduct at HIN A/S

We run a responsible business

With our wide range, we also have many suppliers around Europe and a few outside Europe. We have a duty and desire to conduct business in an increasingly responsible manner with a focus on the entire value chain. Therefore, we have also established a Supplier Code of Conduct, where we want to collaborate with suppliers to promote social responsibility, among other things. HIN A/S' Supplier CoC serves as a basis for dialogue and helps to point out our expectations for our suppliers' responsibility.

We encourage responsible and ethical business approach

We send out our CoC to suppliers, and it contains a number of minimum requirements and guidelines that they are expected to comply with. We generally encourage promoting responsible production and an ethical business approach. This relates both to environmental factors within the production itself and working conditions to treat employees properly and with respect in accordance with international laws.

We also complete the Code of Conduct for our customers

Safety and security in cooperation

Our CoC is an agreement between us and our suppliers. Failure to comply with the agreement may result in termination of the cooperation. All in all, our supplier Code of Conduct will help maintain HIN A/S' ambition for high ethics, decency, and correctness in our organisation and collaborations. It also helps to ensure safety and security for our many customers, as we can vouch for the products we deliver throughout the country.

Just as we make demands of our suppliers, we also experience that our customers make demands of us and want to make sure that we are a responsible and environmentally conscious company. Most recently, we have completed the Code of Conduct in the form of a longer questionnaire from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. Here, we achieved a position at the top of their rating system – this measured in areas such as the environment, human rights, anti-corruption, and our value chain as a whole.

Advice in a class of its own

ESG and climate accounts

Our ESG key figures and ratios

The increase in CO2 emissions per employee from 2021/22 is due to increased activity levels, including customer visits and business travel, following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governance – management

In relation to governance – management, we have the following points to consider:

• At HIN A/S, we make sure that our employees are updated annually on GDPR and data security – through training, courses, tests, etc. with the purpose of creating awareness about GDPR.

• Two out of three board members are independent directors.

• We publish our third ESG report this year and will act on data and key figures.

• In accordance with legislation, workplace assessments (WPAs) are conducted, and HIN A/S has an employee handbook that explains safety, rights, and work policy, among other things.

CO2e statement

The increase in CO2 emissions per employee from 2020/21 to 2021/22 is due to increased activity levels, including customer visits and business travel after the COVID-19 period.

Accounting policies

Method for climate accounts

Greenhouse Gas Protocol

In order to be able to calculate our CO2e emissions in the environmental part of the ESG report, we use the internationally recognised and most widespread standard for preparing climate accounts: the GHG Protocol(GHGP). The method is recommended by the EU Commission. The aim is for such reporting to appear as uniform as possible across all industries.

Scope 1 – direct emissions

Obligatory

Scope 1 contains all direct sources of CO2e emissions.

This can, for example, be means of transport that are owned or rented.

This concerns all emissions that originate from activities that we own or have control of.

Scope 2 – indirect emissions

Obligatory

Scope 2 includes all emissions from suppliers who supply us with energy, including greenhouse gases, which originate from the production of the electricity, district heating, and district cooling that we consume.

Scope 3 – all other indirect emissions in the value chain

Voluntary

Indirect CO2e emissions that are not mentioned under scope 2 belong to scope 3.

This can include subcontractors or be in connection with employees’ transport to and from work.

Database and the organisational boundary

CO2e emission factors

The CO2e emissions are calculated based on the GHGP, and the calculations are aligned with the Danish Business Authority’s guidelines for calculating CO2e.

CO

equivalents

To compare the greenhouse gases, all emissions are converted into so-called CO2 equivalents (CO2 e).

It is a unit that describes the amount of CO2 to which the emissions of various greenhouse gases correspond. The emission factors used are stated in the report.

Accounting practice

When calculating CO2e, we used the emission factors provided by utility companies and emission factors from recognised databases, in line with the Danish Business Authority’s guidance.

We used the most recent, published emission factors at the time of preparing the climate statement. If an emission factor was unknown at the time of preparing the climate statement, the previous year’s emission factor was used, and we will make an adjustment to the climate statement when the new emission factor is published, per guidance in the GHGP.

All emissions and figures are shown gross, and no adjustments have been made for CO2 e compensation.

All ESG key figures have been compiled and calculated according to the Danish Business Authority’s guidance on ESG taxonomy and FSR’s guidance for ESG reporting from January 2022. Some ESG key figures from the idea catalogue are not included in this ESG report due to lack of relevance or lack of data. The financial year 2020/21 (01.07.2020 to 30.06.2021) is the base year.

Comsumption data

Consumption data is based on statements from suppliers and measuring units. Other data is based on extracts from our systems for time registration, salary, HR, and reimbursement of travel expenses, for example.

The organisational boundary

The climate accounts are a charting of the company HIN A/S.

The scope 1 and 3 statements apply to: HIN A/S – CVR no. 87 69 16 16.

The scope 2 statement of energy consumption applies to the address: HIN A/S, Langmarksvej 29, 8700 Horsens.

Operational control

The organisational boundary of this report is determined by the operational control method.

Scope delimitation

The GHG Protocol stipulates that CO2e emissions are calculated in scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3. In these climate accounts, CO2e emissions are calculated as the calculated emissions from scopes 1 and 2 and selected scope 3 emissions.

We have tried to include as many scope 3 emissions as practically possible. It is the ambition that we will include more relevant scope 3 emissions in the long term, including freight, purchase of goods and services, and processing/removal of sold products after end of life etc.

Data definitions

Scope 1

We lease company cars that are used for transportation. Transportation is primarily for our customer projects and external business partners. The calculations are based on the number of liters of gasoline consumed, and emission factors are from the Danish Energy Agency.

Oil consumption from previous years is calculated based on data provided by our supplier. Consumption is stated in both DKK and liters.

Scope 2

Electricity and district heating are based on statements from suppliers and units of measurement. Location-based CO2e emissions reflect the average emission intensity on the grid where consumption is realised

Market-based CO2e emissions reflect emissions from electricity purchased through green certificates.

Scope 3 (selected emissions)

Wastewater is calculated based on our supplier's data and unit of measurement. This is the annual consumption per calendar year.

Business travel by airplane is primarily to our international suppliers and is calculated based on the number of kilometers. Other data is based on extracts from our financial and time registration system.

Mobile phones, monitors, PCs, and laptops are calculated based on quantity, while other IT equipment and office electronics are calculated based on reported total purchases in DKK. Data is extracted from the supplier or our own financial system. The emission factor is estimated by EXIOBASE.

Emission factors
