WALKING FOR A CAUSE: MY 63 MILE CHALLENGE FOR HIMMAH

People are the heart of any company, and at Yusen Logistics, they truly believe in giving back. That’s why they partner with Himmah, a Nottingham-based charity that does incredible work to fight poverty, racism, and educational inequalities. When the opportunity to get involved in a fundraiser came up, Taigen from Yusen Logistics knew she had to take on a challenge that would push her while supporting a cause she cares deeply about.

For the past five years, Taigen’s been working as an HR Systems Administrator at Yusen Logistics. She started as an apprentice and worked her way up from a Level 3 to a Level 5 in CIPD People Management. Over time, she’s seen just how much people matter, not only within our company but also in the wider community.

Yusen Logistics actively supports Himmah as part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Taigen’s given five days a year to volunteer and put every hour to helping at Himmah. So far, she’s volunteered with them six times, and every time, felt even more connected to the cause. Being Nottingham based, she sees first-hand the real impact that Himmah has on the community. That’s why she’s felt so invested ever since.

For me, this fundraiser is about more than just raising money, it’s about personal growth, health, and community. I wanted to focus on my own well-being while doing something meaningful for others. Himmah has felt close to me, so choosing them for my fundraiser was a no-brainer. The sense of belonging and purpose that they provide to the community is something I want to be part of.

While scrolling online, Taigen came across a 63-mile challenge, and it immediately caught her eye.

“I wanted to push myself physically while staying committed to a greater purpose. Over the past year, I’ve been on a weight loss journey, and this challenge is a great way to stay motivated.”

For Taigen this isn’t just about getting fit, it’s about consistency, accountability, and proving to herself that she can set a goal and achieve it.

“Just last year, I was really unfit, and now, I’m taking on a full 31-day challenge to walk 63 miles! I’ve planned out my walks, and I’m determined to hit my target. Knowing that every step I take is making a difference for Himmah keeps me going.”

On a personal level, she wants to raise as much money as possible for Himmah and prove to herself that she can set a challenge and stick with it. This journey isn’t just about walking; it’s about showing she is capable of consistency and perseverance.

For Himmah, her goal is to spread awareness about the incredible work they do and to help ensure that the food bank continues to run smoothly, supporting those who rely on it. Contributing to initiatives like Foodprint, which aims to expand the range of food options available to the community.

“Every step I take is a step toward making a meaningful impact, and I hope this fundraiser can help strengthen the essential work that Himmah does.”

Taigen is incredibly grateful to Yusen Logistics for kicking off this fundraiser with a generous £250 donation! This means so much and sets the stage for even more contributions to come. If you’d like to support her and Himmah in this journey, please consider donating. Every little bit helps!
