Mercy Health Celebrates Reconciliation Action Plan Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents in the Hilltops region will now have access to Mercy Health’s historic Reconciliation Action Plan.

The milestone in Mercy Health’s journey towards culturally safe healthcare was celebrated on Wednesday February 15 with the formal launch of the organisation’s Health Services Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Mercy Health is a key healthcare provider to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities of the Hilltops region, as well as Albury and Melbourne. Its Hilltops branch is located in Young.

The organisation said it had long recognised the need to provide services and work environments that are appropriate, accessible, and sensitive to the culture, and values of First Australians.

The community joined Mercy Health RAP Committee members, staff and leadership to mark this significant event.

Chief Executive – Health Services, Linda Mellors, said the RAP launch was a watershed moment in the organisation’s history.

“Our RAP calls on all staff to think carefully health disparity,” she said.

“It also builds upon initiatives already in place across Mercy Health–Health Services. We are looking forward to continuously improving our engagement with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and key organisations in designing and delivering our care.”

The RAP sets action and delivery timelines under the key categories of Relationships, Respect, Opportunities and Tracking & Progress.

Hilltops Council is calling for nominations for the members of the pubic to sit on the planning panel. Council requests that nominations address each candidates’ reasons for interest in committee membership, previous experience or skills as outlined above and an indication of what community goals/outcomes each candidate wishes to achieve through committee membership.

BACK TO BUSINESS WEEK Hilltops Council is partnering with the NSW State Government to bring two exciting events to the region next week for Back to Business Week.

Administrator, Wendy Tuckerman, thanked the State Government for partner funding which is enabling the Council to host the events. Back to Business Week, February 27 to March 3, is a State Government initiative that is being rolled out to support initiatives that help to deliver the Government’s vision for the State under the NSW Making It Happen brand.

The first event “Why Plan” is an opportunity for developers and trades people to meet with Council’s Planners to get a better understanding of the process of planning and development across the Hilltops Council.

This will be held at the Young Golf Club starting at 6pm on Monday, February 27 and anyone involved in property development, management and building in the Hilltops Council area is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet the planners and get a greater understanding of the Planning and Development process.

A light meal will be provided during the evening and bookings are essential as numbers are limited.

The second event, “Facebook and Instagram for Local Business”, is aimed at enhancing the skills of locals in the use of Facebook and Instagram to promote their products, services and business. Council has engaged ThreeSides Marketing of Canberra to deliver the program in three locations in Boorowa, Harden and Young to ensure the training is accessible to all interested parties.

ThreeSides Trainer, Rebecca Warton, will present the workshops.

Rebecca is a social media expert with vast experience in content development and media management.

The first workshop will be held at the Hilltops Council Chambers, Boorowa 7.30-9.30am, Thursday, March 2 followed by the Young presentation the same day at the Young Services Club 6-8pm and the Harden workshop will be 7.30-9.30am at the Muddy Duck on Friday, March 3.

There will also be opportunity for individual businesses to have oneon-one sessions with Rebecca either after the Boorowa and Harden events or prior to the Young event, however, bookings for these sessions are strictly by appointment made by contacting Council’s Economic Development Officer, Debbie Evans, on 63801224.

All bookings can be made through the Hilltops Council web site and will incur a $10 booking fee.

Greyhound Industry Reform Report Released Member for Goulburn Pru Goward has welcomed a new report that will guide the NSW Government’s greyhound racing reforms.

The Greyhound Industry Reform Panel has recommended a new best practice governance structure that separates commercial and regulatory functions by establishing a Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission with broad investigative powers. It also supports an enforceable code of practice for greyhound welfare, whole-of-life registration and tracking of dogs so their whereabouts are known, licensing and accreditation requirements for all industry participants, and restrictions on the keeping of small animals on properties where greyhounds are kept. Volunteers Sought for Young Food Hall The Young Food Hall is desperately seeking one or two men to assist with unloading of food truck pallets every Tuesday. Food Hall Coordinator Laurel Merrin said the truck comes in anytime between 11.30am and 1.30pm, so they would need to be flexible time-wise.

If you know of anyone who may be suitable, willing and able please give Judy Barker a call on 63826328. The Food Hall is run entirely on volunteer labor and sees up to 70 families per week, and it stated it would be very important for them to be able to keep their valuable service going.

Feral Fighters Training Kicks Off South East Local Land Services, as part of the recently launched 2017 Feral Fighters program, is running a 1080 and Pindone baiting course in Boorowa today, Thursday February 23. Landholders wanting to use 1080 or Pindone baits to control pest animals, such as wild dogs, foxes and rabbits should attend this course so they can then safely and legally use baits on their properties. The course is free for those enrolled in the Feral Fighters program.

Merriwa-Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal NSW Farmers is encouraging Hilltops residents to support its Merriwa-Sir Ivan Bushfire appeal. More than 20 homes, in addition to much more land and livestock, was lost in the region in the recent bushfires, and NSW Farmers’ has joined forces with the Merriwa Show Society to establish the Merriwa-Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal to assist affected landholders and residents. The aim with the Appeal is to support affected people in the longer term.

A very generous bunch of local trades and businesses have stepped up to ensure the children at Gumnut Grove Childcare Centre have a brand new kitchen. The previous kitchen was over 30 years old and both the staff and children are very excited and grateful to those who have helped to make the new kitchen a reality.

The kitchen renovation fundraising was originally kicked off with a Stronger Communities Grant and a Spring Ball was held in September last year to continue the fundraising efforts.

“A big thank you to anyone who has assisted us along the way with donations, fundraising or support. Our families and staff have worked really hard to get to this point,” stated Meghan Pratt, Centre Director.

Meghan would also like to thank those businesses that completed work over the

holiday break and are either donating their time or appliances for the kitchen.

“A big shout out to JMH kitchens, Shannon Heidtmann building, Fullers Floor coverings, Armstrong Plumbing, Gault electrical, Steve Warwick plasterers, Young Building supplies, Young Glass and Harvey Norman Young. Without these wonderful businesses our new kitchen would not be possible.”

Two qualified cooks are apart of the team at Gumnut, ensuring the new kitchen will be put to good use.

“As children spend a large part of their day at the centre, it is important that we provide at least 50% of their daily recommended dietary intake. We encourage healthy eating and promote Munch n Move guidelines within our menu planning.”

A wonderful week of events is planned for Senior’s Festival 2017, with a kickoff BBQ at the Lambing Flat Chinese Tribute Garden in Young on Sunday March 5. Local musical talent will be on hand so bring your own seat or blanket and enjoy. This event is free but will require booking by March 2 through Council’s Administration Office to ensure sufficient catering.

The Mystery Bus Trip leaves the Young Visitor Information Centre at 9am on Monday, March 6 and will pick up Boorowa and Harden residents outside the Harden Council Chambers at 9.30am (Community Transport is available for Boorowa residents to meet the Harden bus). Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Cost is $20 per person and numbers are limited so please book early.

The 1942 classic movie ‘Casablanca’ will be back on the big screen at Southern Cross Cinema in Young on Thursday March 9. Movie starts at 1pm and cost is $10 for the movie only (pay at the door). Please note there is a snack bar at the cinema available for an extra fee.

The week will end with a supper and dance at the Boorowa Recreation Club. The event will include a two-course meal and musical entertainment. Cost is $10 (drinks purchased individually) and bookings are essential by March 6.

Nominations for Senior of the Year must be received by Council by Monday March 6, with winners to be announced at the Boorowa Supper & Dance.

Last year Young North Public completed the building works for their newly establish Connect Support Engage (CSE) centre. Made possible by a combination of school based funding and innovations seeding from the Department of Education and Communities, the centre includes a Family Support Worker Lounge, and a Client Services Room – including school funded Speech and OT as well as the schools second Multi Category Disability Support Class. Phase two of the project, a sensory support playground adjoining the CSE rooms is now ready to be opened. Kel Smerdon, Principal YNPS, said: “The playground includes a fantastic sandpit, garden area, basketball ring, trampoline and multi-purpose play areas.”

“The school is looking closely at building capacity to provide a sliding scale of play based supports and programs for students”. Mr Smerdon suggested that the school has worked hard to ensure that students have strong differentiated programs within the classroom to meet a broad range of learning needs. “Young North PS is now turning its eye to ensure we scaffold and teach students in a similar form when they enter the playground. Bully Busting and alike programs point the finger at the issue but do not address the fundamental baseline that kids need support to be social beings”. Often the playground is where students with additional needs and also students who lack social confidence struggle the most. “This play space will also sup-

port our existing playgroup, Family Support and OT Programs,” Mr Smerdon said. The school would like to thank Alan Osmond from Osmond’s Excavation for the amazing job he has done to support the school staff and community who have partnered with him on this project.

One in four people living in regional and rural areas suffer from heart disease according to the Australian Heart Foundation and one local business is doing its part to support the survival rates of people suffering a heart attack.

Delta Agribusiness has equipped all of its New South Wales branches with (AED) machines – ‘heart starters’ – for the benefit of its branch staff and the 25 local communities they operate in.

AEDs are used in the immediate moments of a person suffering a heart attack and can dramatically increase

survival rates by as much as 70% if used in the first 3-5 minutes.

“We want people to know we have this life saving technology, that it is close at hand and ready to be used in the event of a heart attack emergency,” said Gerard Hines, Delta Ag Managing Director.

“We made this considerable investment because many of the communities we operate in, have limited or no current access to this type of life saving technology,” emphasied Mr Hines.

AED’s are designed to be easily used by people with little or no medical experience.

It will be the 128th edition of the Boorowa Show.

The Show will run very similarly to how it has done in recent years, and will include events such as sheep judging, championship dogs, the pavilion exhibits, yard dogs, horses, shearing, cattle, alpacas, the pet and baby shows, flock ewe, vintage engine judging, Miss and Master Tiny Tots, Miss Teen, and the Miss Junior Show IMAGE: Boorowa Show Society member Narelle Nixon at last year’s Boorowa Show. She said she is looking forward to this year’s Show.

The Show will run from Friday March 3 to Saturday March 4, with the Saturday being the main day, as well as the day when the sideshow alley will run.

Mrs Nixon said this year’s Show had promised to be a good one, especially with the livestock competitions.

“It’s been a great livestock season, so we’ll be expecting to see plenty of well-prepared animals,” she said.

My House My Home February Gardening Tips As your summer crop is having a little bit of a last hoorah, it’s time to start preparing your garden for autumn planting. Here are some tips from Young’s Golden Glance Nursery of what to do now that will ensure your patch is ready to go. Wait until the heat of the day is off and then spend some lovely time in the garden.

Weeding Weeding is a great job to do at this time of year. Cut down the competition between your tasty treats and these space invaders, and tidy up your patch. It may sound tedious, but it’s incredibly rewarding!

Mulching Top up the mulch on your vegetable patches, herb gardens and ornamental beds. This is especially important if you are heading away or caught up in the bustle of back to school. A hot summer tip is to mulch after watering the patch, to a depth of about 7cm. Keep mulch clear of plant stems, especially young seedlings. Choose sustainable, low environmental impact mulch (this means different things in different areas), one that will enrich your soil as it breaks down.

Planning Time to think about what wonders you will whack into your patch come April. Preparing beds and plots now means that when autumn planting time rolls around, your garden will be ready and waiting. Removing spent plants, clearing areas of weeds and topping up organic matter is an excellent February job. A nail rake, some good organic compost and lovely sustainable mulch is the perfect recipe for productive patches of the future.

Shade for your plants On non-gardening days, why not head out to the shed, and construct a couple of shade cloth tents. They don’t have to elaborate, just a simple, moveable structure that you can pop over the top of some of the sun sensitive veggies (like eggplant, capsicum and others) as the heat becomes more intense. Pop these around where required, especially on high UV days, windy days, and during your holidays.

Watering Water smarter at this time of year and always first thing in the morning. A nice, deep drink a couple of times a week is far more beneficial than frequent, short watering.

Green Manure Consider a green manure crop to add some life and love to an overworked patch. At this time of year try lablab, cow pea, mung bean, soy bean and millet. This will improve your soil incredibly, and, for a bit of forward planning, you’ll find it well worth the effort!

One Stop Shop for Vinnies

The doors of the new Vinnies shop are set to open in April of this year and the larger premises is also going to be home to the local St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn volunteer group who offer a variety of assistance to the community.

The old Go-Lo building next to Centrelink is currently being refurbished and has largely been made possible by the impending sale of the two society buildings in Young and bequests by the late Francis Sant, Theresa Scott and Marlene Young.

Currently operating out of 3 separate locations, 2 sites for the retail store and the volunteer group known as the conference are currently sharing with CatholicCare in Boorowa Street, it is intended that the new location will better service the people of Young by providing a central location for all services.

CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn, Barnie van Wyk said they are very excited to be opening a bigger and better Vinnies shop.

“As well as the store we are now able to provide more modern and private facilities for people who come to us asking for help.”

The spacious store that will offer a modernized shopping experience will also be home

to CatholicCare and Marymead ensuring that key assistance organisations are colocated providing more opportunities to collaborate and provide help to people doing it tough.

“By moving to a more modern office with CatholicCare and Marymead we are hoping to provide a more well-rounded approach to providing help to the people we assist, making sure that everything possible is made available to them”.

The store will boast a large book section and for its opening a large amount of stock will come from Canberra to ensure the shop is filled and ready for business.

An increased operation calls for an increased volunteer team and Vinnies is keen to build their volunteer base. They are looking for drivers, administration people, sorters, shop assistants, cashiers and experts in various fields like books and homewares.

They also need some muscle power to help carry furniture and move various donations.

If you are over 14 years, can offer a minimum 4 hours a fortnight and wanting to gain some work experience then drop into the current Vinnies shop across from the Post Office and chat with the store manager.

LOOKING Back Thanks to the wonderful hard-copy newspaper archives at the Young Library we have stepped back 50 years to February 1967 and found some interesting snippets!

Visible Learning Partnership for Public Schools

Principal’s from Young High School, Young North Public School and Young Public School have recently signed an agreement with the Corwin Group to embark on a common learning journey based around one of the world’s leading education experts, Professor John Hattie.

Kel Smerdon, Principal of Young North PS, had the pleasure of working with the Department of Education’s High Performance Unit and Prof Hattie late last year.

Mr Smerdon said: “In a time where consumer driven education is focusing on the style of the uniform, tokenistic technological devices and flavour of the month programs and styles, Prof Hattie’s research points directly towards the quality of the teacher and a school’s genuine knowledge of what ‘impact’ each of their teachers is having on student outcomes.”

Mr Duran said: “As we continue to define our quality public education pathway within Young we look forward to building Prof Hattie’s Visible Learning model across our schools and I am proud to work in a network of schools that looks so deeply at its teaching capacity.”

DIY Investment Property Management: Rental Collection HOUSE of the week

One of the most important property management tasks is rent collection. It is extremely important that a clear process is followed in this regard and that the full rent amount is paid on the specified date.

If you are not clear on this you may find your tenant is constantly late or the money is trickled to you in multiple payments over the course of rent period.

These days, professional property managers use direct debit to manage rent payments. This is the best form of payment as the control is with the property manager. At the commencement of the tenancy, the tenant signs an authority so the rent can be debited from the tenant(s) account on the day it is due. One of the great things about this form of payment is that if there is no money in the tenant’s account, you know about it straight away. With other forms of payment, it may be 3-7 days before you know there is a problem.

If you are a DIY landlord, be clear that rent must be paid in full and on time. Don’t drop in to collect rent, avoid part payments and ensure there is one party that is responsible for communicating any issues with rent payments.

If your tenant does not pay their rent in full at the designated time, commence written reminders that rent is due.

Dependent on the state, you can start more formal proceedings from around day 10-14. Be careful that you complete all steps in the right order, keep records and don’t harass the tenant.

In some states, for example, there is a limit to how many reminders you can issue.

This is an opportunity for industry to interact and learn from fellow breeders in the Merino industry. Last year there were 13 entrants in the competition. The ewes are judged on farm, then the top five place getters are announced that evening, they then bring ten of their ewes to the Boorowa Show where the winners are announced. Parenting group Triple P will be hosting a Positive Parenting course in Young. The course will be free of charge, and run for eight weeks. Back to Business in the Hilltops Region

Hilltops Council is partnering with the NSW State Government to bring two exciting events to the region next week for ‘Back to Business Week’.

Administrator, Wendy Tuckerman, thanked the State Government for partner funding which is enabling the Council to host the events. Back to Business Week, February 26 to March 4, is a State Government initiative that is being rolled out to support initiatives that help to deliver the Government’s vision for the State under the NSW Making It Happen brand.

The first event “Why Plan?” is an opportunity for developers and trades people to meet with Council’s Planners to get a better understanding of the process of planning and development across the Hilltops Council.

This will be held at the Young Golf Club starting at 6pm on Monday, February 27 and anyone involved in property development, management and building in the Hilltops Council area is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet the planners and get a greater understanding of the Planning and Development process.

A light meal will be provided during the evening and bookings are essential as numbers are limited.

The second event, “Facebook and Instagram for Local Business”, is aimed at enhancing the skills of locals in the use of Facebook and Instagram to promote their products, services and business.

HILLTOPS REGION SPORT

Little Athletics Success Little Athletics is stronger than ever in Young with over 100 children from 4yrs to 17yrs competing each week at Gus Smith Oval. The Young team recently attended the regional carnival in Dubbo with 9 children competing and 3 of those athletes will be heading off to Sydney to compete in the State carnival.

For each age group there is a 4 week rotation of events covering running, throwing and jumping with the ‘tots’ doing a variety of gross and fine motor skills each week. The club is interested in hearing from anyone who might be interested in participating in senior athletics.

An active fundraising night is being held on Friday 3rd of March where there will be relays, sprints and discus events. There will also be team events so grab a few friends together and get your run on! For registrations call up to the oval on Wednesday nights between 530pm-8pm or call 0263823533.

Aileen McInerney, Club President said that Little A’s would not be possible without the support of their great sponsors and the weekly assistance given by parents and grandparents.

Boorowa Goldies Rugby Union Update

The Boorowa Rugby Golf Day will be held this Saturday February 25, commencing at 1pm.

Registrations will begin at about 12 noon. The competition will be conducted with teams of four, so get a few friends together, think of a great team name and come along for a fun day. Don’t feel left out if you are not currently in a team – teams will be put together on the day.

The club is still awaiting confirmation from ACT Rugby for a draw – there are now three teams in doubt of fielding a side and they have until

this Friday, February 24, to confirm whether or not they will play. The teams in question at the moment are Milton, Bungendore and Gungahlin. The club will keep everyone updated and send out a draw when available.

Boorowa is currently training Friday nights at 6.30pm, at the Recreation Oval, however this will change shortly to the usual training at the Showground. Everyone is most welcome – whether they are interested in joining the team or just participating for a bit of fitness.

Tuesday’s nine-hole stroke event went to Brian Wall, who won with a score of 38/24. The runner up was Pat Hewen with 45/28. Brian scored 1 gobble.

Thursday’s 18-hole winner was Pat Hewen with 80/57, with Brian Wall being the runner up being Brian Wall with 73/58.

Gobbles went to Max Harchman and Brian, with one each, and Birdies went to Pat (1) and Brian (2).

Sunday’s flag event was played in much cooler conditions.

Craig Hall won with a score 68/50, and Pat Hewen came second with 74/51. Gobbles went to Pat (1), Casey (1), Garry (1), Craig (2) and Max Harchman (2).

Craig scored 1 birdie.

There was no birdie hole or eagle nest winner.

Scott Bennett won the raffle.

Next week there will be a stableford event.

Harden Golf Club News Kennedy Makes Late Charge The Summer Stableford Championships are almost done and dusted for another year, but the placings are tight and the competition is hot. Big scores are making the final tally in a best score and replacement format, harder to pick than a broken nose.

This week, Tam Kennedy has finally put some of his recent good form into play and cashed in for a weekly win. Tam’s timing is impeccable as it has shot him to the lead in the overall A Grade standings with only 1 week to go. Tam has recorded a round 7 less than his handicap for a sweet little 43 pointer and to pick up the days event and bag of goodies.

Tam did not have the scoring all his way it would seem with a fast finishing Michael McPake only 1 shot behind him for an equally excellent round on the day. Michael’s 42 points led off the ball comp. Next in was the crafty warhorse Ronald Page with 40 points and Bernie Parker rounded out the balls with 38 points on a countback.

Mr Kennedy also stepped up on the 10th hole. Whilst Tam did not get the Bendigo Bank Whopper account for a hole in one, he did get the ball for nearest the pin at a meagre 1.9999995m from the hole. Nicely into 4 putt range!

Summer Championships Tight – 1 round to go…

With the huge scores winning each week and some of the top 3 places tighter than a goldfishes backside, who knows who could take the placings. Even the strongest performer of the summer in B Grade, Ron Kerr is not in the winners circle with his feet in the air just yet.

In A Grade, the prominent places and their best 4 stableford aggregate scores of the summer within the monthly frameworks are: Tam Kennedy 163 points Kevin Hoppe 160 points Darrell Cassidy 156 points In B Grade, the placings are even more interesting: Ron Ker 170 points Ian Clarke-Bruce 163 points Maurice Manwaring 161 points Ronald Page 160 points With rounds to come off, hopefully better ones to come in and adjustments depending on these factors, basically it is very close.

In past years we have had pronounced front runners toppled or equalled and hold on.

Place your own mental bets as you will, but this format has proven very successful with our current crop of golfers who do not like dust growing on their sticks over summer.

Men’s Action at the Boorowa Young Women’s Ex-Services Bowling Club Bowls News Hot Competition on a Hot day Last Thursday on a hot steamy afternoon 18 bowlers took to the green for the weekly social bowls.

The competition was fierce, with a tie for first between Nev Thurtell and Daryl Murphy. Second was bushranger Ned Kelly and then there was a three way tie for third between Col Good, Gerry Monahan and Dick Mattress.

The Bowls Club officer in charge of gambling, Garry Hollier, gave us a good report that with his grea gambling expertise he invested in one $5 lottery ticket that returned $100.

The syndicate, which runs for the full year, really appreciates his skill All pennant bowlers are reminded that on Sunday February 26 at 1pm there is a gathering on the green for pennant practice.

This Week at the Young Bowling Club After two rounds of the District Triples Championship at the Cootamundra Country Club only two teams from Young remain in the event.

Ian Schofield, Ged Hardman and Russell Boyd defeated Oscar Lopez’s team 31–10 and John Harriott’s team 21–15 while Barry Reynolds, Geoff Holt and Graeme Edgerton defeated Bob New’s team 34–18 and Graham Davidson’s team 22–19.

Good luck to both teams in Round 3.

There were five games of Club Singles on Saturday.

The results were: George Somerville 31 d Brian Madden 25; Russell Boyd 31 d Geoff Holt 22; Cliff Traynor 31 d Joe Bargwanna 25; Damien Miller 31 d Peter Slater 23 and John Cooper 31 d Stewart Taylor 29.

Twenty players were involved in Saturday’s Jackpot bowls. Brian March and Denis Rosen won the Penrose Funerals sponsored vouchers with a margin of 15 shots.

Fourteen players took part on Sunday morning with Roger Allen and Chris Wright the winners on 14 points.

Fryer Tucks were the winners for Tuesday night’s games in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge and Murringo had the best score on Thursday night. Two new teams, the Wombat Burgers and the Wombat Warriors, played on Thursday night.

On Thursday afternoon there were 28 players and Don Close and Colin Stokell were the winners with a margin of 26 shots.

Friday night’s Jack Attack games saw extra players involved and a great night on the green.

The club acknowledges the wonderful support from Richard Mellish Insurance 560 Services in sponsoring the purchase of maWORDS terials for this program.

Other local businesses have provided sponsorship so that a charity will receive $1000 at the conclusion of the event. They are Curves Young, Harden Geelan Holden, McAlister Motors, Terry Bros Carpet Court, Watson Toyota, John Hobson Electrical, Young Mazda, Young Shearing Supplies, Fred O’Reilly’s Printing and Connelly’s Office National and the club is very appreciative of their support.

Four games of Club Singles are to be played on Saturday afternoon with the details on display at the club.

Entries for the District Pairs close on Friday night.

No one works harder to keep their club going than the bowlers of the Young Bowling Club.

There is a lot more to running a club than just going to play bowls. Every member has a job to do in promoting the club and it’s activities.

Every member is an important representative of his or her club.

The President and Vice Presidents represent the club and chair the meetings, the Secretary is the engine room and the treasurer looks after the finances. The Selection/Match Committee has the biggest job with organising the yearly calendar of events, running those events and selecting the people who will play in them and what position they will play. The Pennant competition as played at the moment is not easy to organise as it involves most of the playing members of the club. The Match Committee organise every game that is played whether it be competition or just social, and nothing would happen without them.

The Social Committee organises morning teas for visiting clubs, and the Publicity Officer writes the advertising and the weekly newspaper articles that bring the current and future events to public attention. The South West Delegates attend meetings of district level and report back to the club on district level events.

The Historian keeps records of the progress of the club through the years for future members, The Patron is the cornerstone and anchor of the club and is usually someone who has been with the club for a long while.

Next time you see Bowlers on the green, stop and think about the organising that got them there and the number of people involved in that organising. Next time you walk into the Young Bowling Club, stop and think of the number of people who are working hard to keep that club up to the highest standard.
