The best success can be gained by participating at an event that has a well established history

Trade shows, exhibitions and other events can be an excellent way to showcase your products and services. They give you the opportunity to increase awareness of your business, launch new products and services, network with industry members, explore partnership opportunities, see what competitors are offering, generate new business leads, attract and convert customers.

What is a Trade Show?

A trade show is a platform where businesses (exhibitors), professionals and business representatives (visitors) come together under one roof to exchange knowledge and make connections with other like-minded professionals. Exhibitors book a stand and use this space to connect and engage with visitors to the event. Ideally, the event is used to generate leads, network, promote products and services, and hopefully close a few sales in an organic setting that’s tailored to them and their audience.

How can you benefit from exhibiting at

a Trade Show?

There are many reasons why you would choose to exhibit at a trade show, which include:

Make sales – the golden ticket to trade show success, hitting a quota or making direct sales is the ultimate definition of winning.

Capture leads – without leads salespeople have nobody to convert, so generating enough leads for your marketing funnel is a must.

Analysing the competition – what technology are they using, what marketing angle are they taking? It’s good to know what the competition is up to.

Engage with existing customers – existing customers are more likely to invest in new products and services, so you can keep building relations and offering them more benefits.

Introduce new products/services – new and old customers could benefit from your new product.

Account-based marketing – go into a trade show with an idea of who you’d like to speak with, so you can create a strategy that’s more likely to convert them.

Gather feedback – feedback is how you improve services and sales and marketing;

you could receive advice that revolutionises how you do things.

Spot trends – spotting trends is vital if you want to stay relevant or avoid something that’s a flash in the pan.

What should you look at when selecting a trade show?

The best success can be gained from participating at an event that has a wellestablished history. These events usually draw the best reward. The event organiser should have proven methods in place to market the event to the right audience. They will have a database they have accrued over many years of business. The venue should be easily accessed by road or public transport and have plenty of parking. A venue with excellent nearby facilities, hotels, restaurants, entertainment, can also be a bonus if the event is held over more than one day.

Can You Make Money at a Trade Show?

Keeping costs down is a benefit when deciding which trade show to exhibit at. Smaller shows tend to be cheaper, so choosing an event that is aimed at your target audience is the key to a successful outcome from exhibiting.

Here are some ways you can get a healthy ROI from a trade show, including:

Only buy the space you need – the area you buy takes up a significant amount of your budget, so overdoing it can waste money, which is going to eat into your sales.

Get an enticing exhibition stand – you can have a tiny space and still attract people if your stand is attractive, making your area presentable promotes credibility.

Organisation is key – there’s a temptation to blindly hand out literature and marketing collateral, putting it at the back of your space makes reps think about engaging first, which is more likely to generate a lead or a sale.

Use tech where it’s useful – the whole purpose of a trade show is to generate business through face-to-face marketing, so don’t dehumanise the event by using too much technology.

Pick the right team – there’s no point in attending an event if you pick the wrong staff. Ideally, it would benefit you if you had people who understand and empathise with customer challenges, but also know when to close deals.

Work the aisles – do not limit yourself to the boundary of your stand, you can reach out to passers-by and engage in the aisle.

Tell people you’re exhibiting – use as many marketing techniques as you can to create a build-up to the event and get people excited. Utilise all marketing opportunities the event itself offer, these are generally targeted directly at your required audience.

What Do You Need for a Trade Show?

The last thing you want to do is under prepare. Get the following ticked off before you get to your event:

Event space – the first thing you need is event space, you’ll have a shock if you turn up and there’s nowhere for you to pitch!

Stand with supporting collateral – your stand and marketing collateral are what attract people to your stand.

Travel plans – train, bus, plane, car? It would help if you had robust plans in place before you depart.

Accommodation – if you’re planning on staying over, which you may want to as events are long, tiring days, reserve in advance as hotels may get booked up prior to the event.

Marketing collateral – brochures, leaflets, business cards; get all the material you need and ensure you get plenty. You don’t want to run out.

Staff – ask your staff well before the event to ensure they are available to attend, cancelling holidays will not be seen as favourable to you! Remember your staff are the face of the business at the event, get them prepared.

Could You See Success at a Trade Show?

Trade shows aren’t an antiquated form of marketing and sales – they’re proven to generate targeted, high-quality leads and sales. Not every business can benefit from attending trade shows, but they’re certainly worth exploring. Just like trade shows give you the opportunity to better connect with prospective customers, exhibiting at a trade show also allows you to meet existing customers face-to-face. While most of today’s business is conducted over email or phone, face-to-face meetings are undeniably a fantastic way to do business.

The Wall Street Journal agrees. Citing a study by Oxford Economics, the well-known financial publication reports that face-to-face meetings are the most effective way to strengthen relationships with both prospective customers and current customers.

Trade shows help bring all the different aspects of an industry together – consumers, distributors, suppliers and manufacturers, all in one place. With such a broad audience together in one place, businesses are able to schedule meetings, negotiate orders and other opportunities and collaborate on other projects. Trade shows allow businesses to facilitate discussions with their suppliers and even with other businesses, as well as move projects to another level if the opportunity arises.

We are extremely excited to share the news with you that, after our devastating fire in April last year, we are finally moving in to our new 22,000 sq/ft premises.

We wanted you to get a glimpse of our new business premises which are significantly larger than the 8000 sq/ft units that we have been operating out of for the past 18 months. The additional warehouse space gives us the room to store our ever-increasing stock holding that we hope to have back to the pre fire value by the end of the year.

In turn this should enable our award-winning customer service team to offer the level of service that you have been used to in previous years.

We have found it frustrating that our daily production output has been restricted by the limited space we’ve had available. So, we’re delighted that within a few weeks we will have increased this output by 50% compared to the current levels.

The pictures above show you how far we have come since last year and we hope they will reassure you of our ability to provide the best possible service to you from now on. This will also be the first time that all of our team have worked together under one roof for the past 18 months. We are thrilled about this new phase of our business and we look forward to serving you in the coming weeks, months and years.

format signage without the need to invest in UV printers or other more expensive forms of transfer.

Along with their selection of systems, Nova Chrome offers a range of supplies and consumables, including Sawgrass’ SubliJet HD and U-HD inks. As Platinum level resellers, the company has proven their commitment to Sawgrass’ products and are pleased to recommend these premium quality inks. Delivering a wider colour gamut and excellent runnability compared to other similar products, superb quality is obtained print after print.

Also recently launched is the Mutoh XpertJet 1341 WR Pro, a uniquely positioned 54″ (137cm) width based unit for those seeking to build on their dye sublimation offering. Partnered with Mutoh’s DS3 Allround HC Dye Sublimation inks for best performance, the XpertJet 1341 WR Pro offers the combined benefits of increased speed and quality thanks to its Accufine 1600 print head and other innovative technologies introduced by the manufacturer.

The XpertJet 1341 WR Pro is capable of producing transfers for applications as varied as textile based display graphics, sportswear, and all manner of rigid sublimation blanks.

To partner with their printer offerings, Nova Chrome’s technical support team recommend S-Race paper by Felix Schoeller. Top 10 Frequently Asked Laser Questions from Epilog Fans

Epilog Laser Fans - ELFs for short - are some of the most creative engravers around. The ELF group on Facebook has so many engraving projects and examples of the versatility of Epilog machines. In addition, most ELFs are happy to offer expertise and advice to newcomers.

Here’s a look at 10 of the most frequently asked questions our fans ask, along with answers from our experts!

1. What are some recommendations for hardwood engraving?

Mask the wood. Masking helps reduce residue from seeping into engraved areas and makes for easy clean up.

Use “bottom up” engraving. This is a feature in Epilog’s print driver that allows users to engrave from the bottom of the design up, instead of engraving from the top down. It also helps reduce smoke and debris being pulled into the engraving area as the laser head moves.

Clean with Pledge, Simple Green or any citrus-cleaner.

2. I’m a little nervous about etching glass! Any suggestions?

First, remember that not all glass is created equal. While you may think you need more expensive glass to get a great engraving, that’s not always the case. Many of our customers use glassware from restaurant suppliers or dollar-discount stores, both of which engrave beautifully.

We’ve also developed the following tips that help ensure a nice, frosty engraved finish:

Using a lower resolution, around 300 DPI, produces a better result on glass as you separate the dots you are engraving.

Change the black in your graphic to 80% black to improve the engraving quality.

Running with a Jarvis dithering pattern in the driver (you’ll find this under the raster speed and power settings) will also help provide a smoother finish.

Some people find that applying a thin, wet sheet of newspaper or paper towel a little larger than the engraving area also helps with heat dissipation and improves the engraving. Just be sure that there are no wrinkles in the paper after it is applied.

Using your finger or a paper towel, apply a thin coat of liquid dish soap—any kind will do—over the area to be engraved. That will dissipate the heat when engraving.

Polish the area with a ScotchBrite pad or something similar to eliminate shards of glass.

3. What are some tips for engraving on plywood or balsa?

Generally speaking, this material is cut with a laser more than it’s engraved. For engraving, we’d suggest starting with the recommended wood engraving settings in our manual.

Plywood can be tricky and inconsistent in terms of cutting, due to the various layers of glue found within it. Balsa seems to cut very nicely and many of our customers use this medium to build various types of models.

4. I’m thinking of expanding my business to engrave leather. Will that be difficult?

Not at all—leather engraves and cuts beautifully with a laser! Some of our users custom etch leather journals, coasters and much more.

5. What are the best settings for engraving on leatherette?

This is going to depend on your machine and wattage, but we’d start with the recommended settings for “leather” in Epilog’s user manual. When in doubt, start with a relatively high speed and low power. If you don’t move the item being engraved, it is easy to add a little more power or reduce the speed and run the job again until you get the look you want.

6. I hate to waste materials. What cool projects can you create with scrap pieces from other projects?

Scrap materials are great not only for creating new projects, but also for use as practice pieces for more challenging engravings, such as photographs.

We’ve seen customers make all kinds of things from scrap, such as small acrylic edge-lit signage, ornaments, name tags, and lots more!

7. I have a Mac. Can I use it with my Epilog Laser?

Epilog systems run off any Windows-based graphic design software, so most of our customers elect for a PC and CorelDRAW. Die-hard MAC users typically use Parallels or Bootcamp to power the lasers from their systems, or simply purchase an adequate PC and dedicate that machine only to the laser.

8. Any tips for proper maintenance? How and when should I clean my machine?

The biggest piece of maintenance advice is to keep your system clean, especially the optics. Clean optics help ensure that your laser produces the most precise engraving and cutting results. Other maintenance activities will depend on the model of your machine and are included in your owner’s manual. You can also find maintenance videos in our online training site and knowledge base.

9. Can I maximize my laser investment with apparel applications?

Absolutely. Epilog systems can both cut and directly etch all kinds of fabrics. We’ve seen users engraving fleece pullovers, leather jackets, aprons, napkins, and more.

10. Can you recommend inexpensive substrates I can play around with?

This is where scrap materials come in very handy for testing speed and power settings, experimenting with different resolutions, etc. Many of our users go to the big home improvement stores for inexpensive wood and tile (ceramic, marble, etc.) to test and play around with. Thrift stores are also great places to find lots of different low-cost substrates to experiment with. Additionally, “dollar store” retailers often have glassware (pint glasses, wine glasses, beer mugs, etc.) that engrave beautifully.

Great Student Experiences Rewarded at GSL Awards

The Global Student Living Awards UK & Ireland and Europe celebrates the universities, colleges and organisations that provide students with the best experiences, services, value for money and satisfaction.

These awards are truly special, because they aren’t judged by a panel, by “experts” or by a write-in application, but are judged purely on feedback from real students.

That’s why winning a Global Student Living Award is such a significant achievement.

In 2022, over 65,000 students from across the UK, Ireland and Europe voiced their opinion through the Global Student Living Index, in award categories including:

Customer Service Value for Money Student Wellbeing Learning Environment Student Community Specialist Housing Environmental Management

Winners were presented their trophies at the Global Student Living Net-Zero Student Living Conference, held in London on 20th October.

Designing the Global Student Living Award

The trophy design for Global Student Living needed to be in perfect harmony with the organisation’s dedication to sustainability.

With net-zero student living at the heart of the agenda for GSL, their award had to

reflect their drive towards decarbonisation.

It was also essential to reflect the GSL Awards’ iconic branding style, which incorporates geometric shapes to build a 3D effect, accented by a ribbon.

This combination led to the creation of a beautiful wooden trophy, with 3D geometric patterns inspired by the branding, and bringing a beautiful texture and flow to the award.

Each trophy also included a laser engraved brushed aluminium plate, based on the ribbon used in the GSL Award branding, which was personalised with the award category and winners’ names.

It’s a great example of how a logo can be reimagined with a new twist, but still stay true to the original branding style.

About the Global Student Living Awards

The 2022 Global Student Living Awards UK & Ireland, and Europe are based exclusively on direct feedback from over 65,000 students at universities and colleges across the UK and Europe. With no written nominations and no ‘expert’ judges, the Global Student Living Awards are uniquely credible and highly prized.

Kyd are committed to providing badges and badge products at industry best prices

Becoming one of the largest suppliers of badge components in Europe hasn’t come by chance. Kyd Products live and breathe badges – sourcing the best suppliers of the best quality products, offering a specialist bespoke products service to satisfy the most specific requests, and still committing to providing industry best prices.

KYD stock over 10 million items at any one time, making sure they can always meet customer demand and supply in the exact quantities required; They offer a convenient click and collect service and no-nonsense returns – If it’s not what you had in mind, send it back for a full refund.

Unrivalled badge range

There are well over 120 different badges and badge products available on their website,

including badge pins, metal and plastic clips, badge magnets and holders.

Whether you’re looking for high-end products such as their Tie Pin and Clutch, a beautifully polished 24ct gold plated tie/lapel pin with a 25mm recess which can accommodate personal designs or QuickDome application, or something as simple as an Acrylic Pad Badge Pin, their products are available in small minimum order quantities.

KYD’s range is always growing, and they’ve introduced a new badge magnet which is quickly becoming one of their most soughtafter items. The lightweight, slimline Triple Badge Magnet sits closer to the garment and won’t sag, which is something that has irritated us all with less well-designed badge magnets. Despite its light weight and slim build, this Triple Badge Magnet is one of the most powerful on the market with a three-point magnetic contact.

Industry best prices

At KYD, they are constantly reviewing minimum order quantities, unit costs and operational

costs, aiming to ensure that they can continue to offer customers industry best prices.

Sourcing of specialist items from their worldwide group of approved manufacturers and suppliers also helps them to find the most cost-effective solutions. KYD also have regular special offers running for new customers and discounts for existing customers, which are regularly shared through their Facebook and Twitter accounts, not to mention sent directly to your inbox if you’re a member of their email marketing programme. Another great saver is their offering of job lots, which are listed in the Job Lots and Special Offers section of the website.

Their well-stocked warehouse, unrivalled range and specialist sourcing and bespoke products services are huge differentiators, but what makes them really stand out from the crowd is their focus on an excellent customer experience.

PARTNERS WITH

Laser engravers v CNC engravers

Laser engravers/cutters

Since the introduction of lasers into the engraving industry in the late 1980’s we have been in awe of their speed, accuracy, and versatility!

However, the average laser has its limitations when it comes to engraving and cutting metals even with Fiber or Yag sources, unless you are prepared to invest tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of pounds it is unlikely you will be able to achieve the results you require. These systems are well beyond the reach of the average workshop budget, and this is where CNC equipment should be considered as a capable and cost effective alternative!

CNC engravers and routers

Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines have been around since 1952, when Richard Kegg, in collaboration with MIT, developed the first CNC milling machine in the USA. This gained momentum in later years with the invention of the microchip and development of computers making the technology user friendly and more affordable.

In many industries the CNC engraver/router is the essential cog in the manufacturing process. Being used for part marking, memorials, jewellery, electrical, metal plaques, basically any application that requires deep engraving or metal cutting. Like all technologies the world of CNC has evolved over the years with more efficient and faster components, better tooling, and software with features like automatic height sensing, auto tool changing and 3D carving.

Which technology is right for me?

The short answer is both, Laser and CNC, as this would cover virtually all engraving shop requirements. But the main constraint here is budget and getting value for money. The technology will be determined by the main business application please see refer to the table below:

CNC Engraver/Router v Laser

Vision Engravers & Routers

Superior Customer Support – Anyone can sell you a machine – Vision strives to sell you a solution! We start by working with you to find the engraver or CNC router to best fit your needs, then back you up with a warranty and a dedicated support team so you’ll be completely satisfied with your purchase.

A new survey reveals waste and cost to parents of lost school uniform items

With the rising prices prices on nearly every item. How does a small trophy business cope with the need to save money or how can they make extra money to get them through these tough times?

They could cut energy costs by closing some days a week. But this will not make any extra money. So is there a way they can improve their income?

K.T. Labels Ltd have come up with a great solution to this question. Their new idea is to add something extra to your range of items that you sell.

Something that is really helpful not only to the customer, but also helpful to you the trophy shop. In fact this idea is so good it’s called a no brainer!

So, what is this idea?

K.T. Labels for the whole month of October are offering a free printer. This printer, a TSC TE210, can print all your plates and circles.

It comes with a stand-alone key board and back roller. Included in the deal is a free copy of Label Direct Basic software.

So

what’s new about this printer?

Well its able to print a new revolutionary type of label. One that is washing machine proof, dishwasher proof, micro wave proof and oven proof.

A label that can be printed instantly of the same printer. You may ask “what is the purpose of this new label?”. K.T. Labels will tell you:

A new survey reveals waste and cost to parents of lost school uniform items

A recent survey has revealed that on average, 75% of primary school children lose 1-2 items of uniform per year. Furthermore, 21.5% of those lose 3-5 items. There are 5 million children currently in primary education in the UK, which equates to 13 million lost items each school year. Both the cost of replacing these and the waste implications on the environment are far from ideal.

The survey uncovered that 17% of parents asked have spent between £26 - £50 replacing lost items; 4% have spent £51£100, and 5% of those questioned spent over £100. Across the 5 million children in primary education, parents could be anything of

expenditures from £42 - £65 million between them to replace all the lost items.

So why not introduce name tags to your business?

The incredible savings a name tag applied to these items of clothing can make to children’s schools and parents finances mean a constant flow of business for you. A lost item can be reunited to its owner by being identified and returned!

But better still the you can make extra money by offering this new service to your customers. K.T. Labels offer you a great add on to your business that is cost effective and highly rewarding.

How do I get the free printer?

K.T.Labels are offering readers of TEN magazine a great deal. If you bulk buy 5 rolls of the new revolutionary AdTag labels you will then receive the TSC TE210 printer for FREE! This is ideal for the new AdTag super adhesive name labels.

So how do you make money with this system from K.T. Labels?

Each sheet of labels costs you £1. On each sheet of there are 20 individual name labels. A perfect amount to label each childs uniform items.

On 1 roll of labels there are 300 sheets of 20 labels. This is 6000 labels per roll. Purchasing 5 rolls, plus the TSC TE210 printer included for free = £1500 plus Vat. (A roll is sold seperately for £300 plus VAT).

In return if you only sell one roll of labels at £5 per sheet you will get your initial £1500 layout back.

Better still you also have your four extra rolls! If you also sell these at £5 per sheet. Then your return will be £1500 x 4 = £6000, on top of the first roll sold.

But remember you still have this extra printer for printing your trophies when needed.

This is an offer not to be missed! Call the Kwik Tapes team today to order your kit and start making extra money for your business.
