Tiger Tri Youth Triathlon in Highpointe May 22

ids from Dripping Springs’ Tiger Splash Swim Team will swim, run and bicycle their hearts out to help spread the word that no child is drownproof. The Tiger Tri Youth Triathlon May 22 will raise money for Colin’s Hope, an Austin-based non-profit whose mission is to prevent childhood drowning. Named in honor of Colin Holst, a 4-year-old Austin boy who drowned in 2007, the group works to educate children, parents and lifeguards on drowning prevention. This is the fifth year the Tiger Splash Swim Team has supported Colin’s Hope through work projects and fundraising. Though every child on the swim team can swim at least the length of a pool, they are all aware that “drowning is not limited to non-swimmers.” Colin, they know, was an accom-
plished beginning swimmer who drowned one summer afternoon in just a few short moments, though he was surrounded by adults and lifeguards who were looking out for him. Since drowning is the number one cause of death for children under the age of four, and a leading cause of death for all children, they’re committed to helping Colin’s Hope promote simple water safety tips and rules that might make a difference in the life of another child. In previous years, the swim team assembled water safety packets that were given away throughout the area. Last year they held a Fitness Fair to promote swimming and water safety. Club members raised money through pledges towards how many laps of the pool they swam. The Triathlon is open to all kids in the See TIGER TRI, page 2
