Welcome to Herts Open Studios 2016.

This unique annual event gives you the rare chance to visit artists, mostly in their own studios, to see their work and find out about their ideas, inspiration and methods. It’s also an opportunity to find some special and individual presents should you wish, (perhaps for Christmas), but there’s no obligation to buy anything so you can just enjoy an interesting and stimulating day out.

There is no charge for visiting any of the studios or galleries, but if you would like to make a donation to help us to keep the project going just click the donate button on our website.

As well as painters, you can also see examples of jewellers, glass makers, sculptors, textile artists, ceramicists, potters and photographers - there really is something for everyone.

Use this brochure to plan your days out, and, most of all, enjoy!

From the early cave man to contemporary artists, life drawing is recognised as the ideal way to improve your artistic skills. Every aspect of art is realised when drawing a real life person.

ABOUT HERTS VISUAL ARTS WHAT IS HERTS VISUAL ARTS & WHAT DO WE DO? HVA is a voluntary organisation that helps artists living or working in Hertfordshire to promote their work, develop their professionalism and network. We promote the visual arts in Herts for all art lovers – from the creators and makers who produce, through to those who appreciate members’ work and HVA activities.

Perhaps HVA is best known for organising the annual Herts Open Studios in September. But HVA offers so much more!

We promote member artists by providing up-to-date information about exhibitions and activities via our website, on-line newsletter and press releases. Members and non-members can also receive the newsletter direct to their inboxes monthly by email. Members can participate in: exhibitions, presentations by nationally recognised artists, workshops, art group and local networking meetings and visits.

WHO IS HVA FOR? HVA welcomes membership applications from all professional and amateur artists, photographers and craftspeople living or working in Hertfordshire.

HOW TO JOIN HVA? Applications can be made via our website - www.hvaf.org.uk.

Herts Open Studios is one very big reason why artists and craftspeople become members of HVA. Artists put on their own exhibition opening their homes or studios to the public or sharing venues or gallery space supported by a team of local volunteers. In particular, HVA boosts artists’ own marketing with a targeted media campaign. This includes press releases, media exposure and targeted distribution of this brochure to key locations. Visitors have commented on the quality of the brochure and tend to keep and refer to it for many months after the close of the exhibition.
