A close partnership is a cornerstone of business
1. What is Hikvision MENA’s accomplishment in 2022?
The security industry is often the unsung hero of the progressive, modern society that we live in today. In 2022, the security industry is more important than ever before, tasked with keeping people and their possessions safe, secure and protected at all times.
Business growth for security companies is an area of increasing importance in today’s competitive markets. For Hikvision last year had a reasonable growth, due to the development of new technological solutions.

Hikvision had several success stories in different verticals, education, hospitality, retail, intelligent traffic solutions etc. To name a few, KNO school in Oman, Zayed Sports city in the UAE, Warba Bank in Kuwait, Americana group in Egypt and the UAE, etc. Hikvision supported all these projects with comprehensive smart solutions based on the customer`s needs and requirements, bring value to the end users, which is more than just safety.
Hikvision also noticed recent growth in non-CCTV, access control, intercom products and especially commercial display products. In order to turn its auditorium into a multi-purpose venue, and to improve the general visual experience, Dubai’s GEMS Modern Academy replaced their legacy projection system with a massive LED wall from Hikvision. The renovated auditorium has become a popular venue for students, staff, and the community.
2. Why partnership is important to Hikvision?
Over the past 20 years, Hikvision has grown rapidly to become a global player in AIOT solutions. Many people wonder how such growth was possible. To answer this question, there are 3 main reasons.
Firstly, we offer competitive products and solutions with good quality, which is due to our continuous investment in research and development.
Secondly, we always focus on developing the distribution channel to cover the whole market, so that our products and solutions are available anywhere and anytime.
Finally, we provide our customers with comprehensive service: pre-sales, after-sales and technical support. We always strive to support our customers to provide them with a convenient and user-friendly experience.
To provide comprehensive solutions to our customers, we need software and hardware partners. That’s why we released HEOP, to make it easier for our partners to integrate their solutions with our hardware and software. And they can also benefit from Hikvision’s growth.
Hikvision doesn’t simply work with partners, we enable our partners to expand their knowledge, skills and expertise so we can grow together. All of our success depends on our partners.
3.
How do you see the partnership development for HIkvision MENA in these decades from the day we established in Middle East and North Africa region?

We can divide business growth into several phases. In the first phase we focused mainly on channel development, at that time our dealers and distributors were our main focus.

In the second phase, we slowly worked our way up and are now working with leading system integrators to offer security solutions and cover medium-sized projects. In the third phase, we can offer our partners complete solutions that not only meet security requirements, but also business needs.
However, this phase is still in its early stages, we still have a long way to go, and we would like to invest more to grow together with our partners. We want to build a sustainable environment with our technology partners.
To achieve this goal, we need to continue to support our customers on projects and business, and focus more on knowledge; and eventually build a portal where we share more information and opportunities.

Hikvision has launched a new range of eDVRs that use embedded solid state drive (eSSD) storage instead of HDD, delivering major improvements in stability and efficiencies vs. traditional DVRs. To understand the benefits of this ground-breaking eDVR range, we spoke to Hikvision product manager Min Ye.
Q: What is an eDVR and what makes it different from traditional DVRs?
A: The eDVR Series is Hikvision’s latest generation of DVRs. Its most distinguishing feature is that it uses eSSD storage. As you know, traditional DVRs use HDD drives, and by contrast, the new Hikvision eDVRs replace the mechanical moving parts of HDDs with eSSD chips. That makes them more stable, more energy efficient, more compact and more cost effective.
Q: Can you please explain more about the eSSD storage device?
A: Sure, eSSD is a highly compact, super-high performance storage chip that supports advanced software functionality with a high level of reliability. It combines two components – a ‘controller’ and a ‘nand’ – into a single, fully integrated solid-state chip unit. The highly integrated 128-layer 3D-NAND technology not only makes eSSD chips smaller in size, but also improves their memory capacity, heat dissipation, and overall electrical performance. Besides, as SSDs are embedded in the devices, users don’t need to worry about assembly, for the eDVRs arrive ready to use with no additional hard drive installation or assembly required. When it comes to video applications, and DVRs in particular, eSSD reduces the size of the storage chip overall, while also delivering major performance gains.

Q: What do you think is the most special performance gain of using an eDVR?
A: My favourite part is that they are more sustainable than the traditional DVRs. The eDVR Series uses a single eSSD chip instead of HDD, which has multiple moving parts, such as rotating platters, spindles, and the drive actuator and drive head. This means the new eDVRs are much more durable, less vulnerable to falls and shocks, and require far less maintenance than competing solutions – helping to minimize negative environmental impacts. My favorite part is that they are more sustainable than the traditional DVRs.
Equally importantly, using eSSD storage with no moving parts means that the new eDVRs use around 45% less energy than traditional DVRs. That saves around 45 Kilowatt-Hours (kWh) electricity per year. With this amount of electricity, a smartphone can be fully charged for 3000 times. In a time of energy shortage and electric price hikes, the energy efficiency of the eDVR can make a difference to the size of a business or a household’s electric bills.
To make this product even more eco-friendly, we use cardboard and degradable plastic materials to pack them, abandoning the conventional plastic packages and EPE foams.
Q: Does the eDVR Series have other innovative features?
A: Yes, eDVRs have superior coding efficiency, as they use the “scene adaptive bitrate control technology”, which automatically optimizes encoding for video footage. With this technology, higher ‘bitrates’ are assigned to footage with people or vehicles, providing high-resolution recordings of security events for later use. Likewise, ‘no action’ footage is assigned a much lower bitrate to maximize storage efficiency.

Aside from this, the eDVRs are able to support a range of advanced software features including motion detection which is based on Hikvision’s Motion Detection 2.0 technology. This distinguishes human beings and vehicles from other objects, allowing businesses and homeowners to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a security breach.
Q: What applications and scenarios are the new eDVRs designed for?
A: Basically, the use of eSSD storage for the eDVR series means that the devices themselves are far smaller than traditional HDD-powered DVRs. This means that they can be stored and shipped far more easily, and installed literally anywhere, from the top of a desk to a post or behind a cabinet. As well as saving space in this way, the devices are extremely simple to install, with no need for the cables or screws typically used to install HDD devices. This saves time for installers and end users, and significantly accelerates deployment of video-related projects of all types and sizes.
You see, these features make them great for both business and residential use. The eDVR Series’ cost-efficiency and simplicity to set up and use makes it accessible to SMB owners and residential users with no particular IT knowledge nor enough time and budget to elaborate a more complex security solution.

LED displays from Hikvision give a Dubai school auditorium the “wow factor”
In order to turn its auditorium into a multi-purpose venue, and to improve the general visual experience, Dubai’s GEMS Modern Academy replaced their legacy projection system with a massive LED wall from Hikvision. The renovated auditorium has become a popular venue for students, staff, and the community.

Challenge: Turning the school auditorium into a multi-purpose performance venue
With the numerous approaches to entertainment available today, and with audiences’ surging demand for rich, high-quality content display and immersive sound and video. As a result, venues such as showrooms, studios, auditoriums, and lecture halls are dabbling in a host of new technologies and applications to achieve the “wow factor” audiences are looking for.
GEMS Modern Academy is one of these venues. Offering
Curriculum to children from kindergarten to grade 12, GEMS is one of the top ten schools in Dubai. Its large auditorium holds 500 seats for school events and can be rented out for private events on weekends. Originally, the auditorium had a large projection screen on the stage to display presentations, images and videos. However, every element in the environment could take away from the image quality, from sunlight coming in through windows to the whiteness of the screen, the distance from the projector, the age of the system, and more.
Ritesh Dhanak, head of the IT team at GEMS Modern Academy said, “The projector system was not good enough with the ambient lighting. In order to create a better experience in our auditorium, and to pave the way for it to become a community hub, we need to do a complete upgrade to our live audio, stage lighting and visual display systems,” To achieve this, Mr. Dhanak worked with Almoe AV Systems, a renowned distributor and solutions provider of professional audio visual &
IT products in the UAE. Almoe helped the school to upgrade the auditorium’s touch control systems, matrix switchers, stage lighting, and speaker systems. For the most crucial part of the solution – the visuals – they worked with Hikvision to install a new LED display.

The solution: A massive Hikvision LED wall and movable LED side-walls LED displays offer many advantages, including flexibility and modularity. Therefore, the school decided to install a massive LED screen at a width of 12.48 meters, a height of 4.86 meters, and a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm at the center of the auditorium stage. The massive LED wall is made up of nine pieces of P2.5 Fine Pixel Pitch LED Display Units (DS-D4425FI-CAF). The wall delivers an outstanding color gamut and contrast ratio to create remarkably refined images.
For the setup, GEMS Modern Academy preferred to make the two sides of the screen removable to ensure flexibility on the stage, as well as to have multiple videos broadcasted on the screens simultaneously. Four smaller side-screens were designed to be 2 meters wide and 5 meters high, with a pixel pitch of 2.9 mm. They were installed on the two sides of the massive center screen. Each side-wall was composed of four P2.9 Indoor Rental LED Displays (DS-D4429RI-CAF). The two side-screens are used as backdrops, and can be easily removed when they are not needed.
The LED walls are managed using Hikvision’s Video Wall Controller (DS-C10S-S11T), which supports up to 3840 x 2160 resolution at 30 Hz from multiple signal sources (VGA, DVI, HDMI, SDI, YpbPr, DP, and HDBaseT). This enables the school faculty to easily manage multiple video and audio inputs and outputs.
The benefits: Excellent visual experience for audiences makes the auditorium a popular venue for students, staff, and the community
Hikvision’s LED wall has vastly improved the visual performance of lectures and events held at the auditorium. With an extremely bright and clear image displayed, the screen loses none of its sharpness, color, or coherence, even when viewed at an angle or when the auditorium is brightly lit. “The LED wall provides high-quality visuals, and is perfect for our large auditorium,” said Mr. Dhanak, “Unlike with the old system, we don’t have to dim the lights in the auditorium during lectures, presentations, or live performance, and this allows students to take notes, remain more attentive and, for remote viewers joining via web conferencing, see the auditorium clearly.”
In the end, the video wall displays excellent visuals, adapts to ambient lighting conditions, and offers unique flexibility with the removable side-walls. As a result, Hikvision’s LED display solution has turned the auditorium into a venue that fits all kinds of events. Since the LED screens have been installed, the school has hosted a large number of events at the auditorium, such as school lectures, stage plays, and musical performance. In addition, the venue has also been rented out for many private events such as public presentations and speeches.
Impressively, the venue has also been used to host a TED Talk, one of the most popular lecture platforms in the world. Mr. Dhanak concluded, “With a large multipurpose auditorium providing such excellent visual experience to the audience, events at GEMS Modern Academy are now on a different level and our auditorium is a much sought after event space in the community.”

Hikvision introduces new Pro series PTZ cameras with ColorVu
The integrated ColorVu technology and varifocal lens within the camera guarantees that image brightness and full color always remain consistent as the camera zooms in and out
Sep. 8, 2022 Hikvision today announces new additions to its Pro series PTZ cameras, including the integration of ColorVu technology for the first time in this range. With ColorVu, Hikvision’s new Pro series cameras can provide consistent image brightness and full color imaging as the camera zooms in and out. This ensures crystal-clear details and vivid color for distant objects at all times and in all conditions.
Revolutionary “ColorVu + Varifocal” integration
Traditional PTZ cameras often struggle to ensure that images remain bright and clear when they zoom in, especially in low light conditions. This is because the lens aperture gets smaller when operators increase the focal length, reducing the light entering the lens and thereby impacting the clarity of images.
One way to solve this issue is to adjust the size of the aperture as the focal length changes, so that a consistent amount of light can enter the lens. With Hikvision ColorVu technology, a very large fixed aperture is used in the Pro series varifocal PTZ cameras, enabling consistent light and color for imaging as the camera zooms in or out at night.
The new PTZ cameras’ fixed F1.2 lens aperture allows as much as 14x more light to enter the lens compared to conventional PTZ units. This same capability also ensures vivid and full-color imaging in light conditions as low as 0.0005 lux: or nearly total darkness. The result is bright and colored images, even in extremely low light conditions or at night.
The camera also has a warm supplemental LED light that further illuminates the field of vision, allowing objects and events to be captured in full color within 100-meter range.
Further increasing security capabilities with AcuSense
In addition to ColorVu, Hikvision Pro series cameras have also been equipped with AcuSense technology, which distinguishes between real security threats and harmless moving objects such as animals, falling leaves, and changing lights.
This smart classification capability means that alarms are only triggered in the event of real security threats. In such cases, the PTZ lens follows the detected threats and sends automated alerts to home or business owners, security teams, or Alarm Receiving Centers (ARCs).
The ability to detect real security threats in real time, and to reduce false alarms, means that security end users and teams can respond to security incidents quickly and effectively and minimize negative impacts. This is especially vital for protecting site perimeters, key entrances and exits, and other restricted areas.

Boosting retail performance: 4 ways smart video can help

In today’s tough markets, retailers need to maximize a huge number of performance KPIs to remain competitive. The good news is that smart video can shine new light on performance across a wide range of operational processes, helping retailers make improvements that drive sales, minimize losses from shrinkage, and strengthen the bottom line, says Andrew Martin, Retail & Logistics Lead at Hikvision UK and Ireland.
Retailers constantly monitor a huge variety of performance KPIs, from footfall in store, to sales per square foot, sales per member of staff, conversion rates, and overall revenue growth. Driving performance across all these KPIs – and many more besides –depends on in-depth knowledge of customer needs and preferences, great product selection, optimal picking and stocking processes, and the ability to minimize shrinkage across the supply chain.
Of course, analysis of data from the POS and a wide range of other systems is key for understanding and addressing the root causes of performance issues. However, rapid innovation in the field of smart video technology is now providing an additional layer of performance insights that are helping retailers differentiate their in-store experiences, boost their conversion rates, and – ultimately – to differentiate their brands in the marketplace.
Specifically, smart video allows retailers to improve their operations in four key ways.
Boost sales performance with optimized product placement
Smart video allows retailers to see which areas of the store customers visit most often, and to understand which products are the best sellers. These two critical insights support far better product placement and merchandizing. Locating the most popular products in footfall ‘hotspots’ in this way means that customers can find the goods they want more quickly and easily, leading to greater overall sales revenues. What’s more, the opportunity to cross-sell related products is also increased, leading to an incremental sales uplift.
1. 2. 3. 4.
Optimize the store layout to maximize conversion
With smart video, store managers can see, in vivid detail, how customers move around the store, and how the layout of aisles, fixtures, and in-store advertising can be optimized to improve the customer experience and drive conversion. Traditional data analytics can take retailers part of the way in terms of understanding in-store journeys, dwell times, and queuing times. By contrast, video data gives a clear and immediate view of the store, making it simple to understand and address issues that could impact sales performance. These range from poorly positioned displays, fixtures, and kiosks, to poorly placed in-store advertising or signage.
Ensure that the products customers want are constantly available
For all retailers, balancing customer service and routine tasks, such as shelf-filling, is a major challenge. With smart video, an alert can be generated in real time if stock levels for a particular product are low, allowing teams to restock shelves or displays quickly. Analysis of video data can also help stores to understand stock levels in store, and to communicate picking requests to distribution centers, ensuring that products always arrive in a timely manner in store, and always available for customers based on ‘just-in-time’ delivery best practices.
Minimize shrinkage to prevent losses and drive the bottom line
While driving sales revenues is the central KPI for retail performance, even a small reduction in shrinkage due to shoplifting can also have a major positive impact on the bottom line. Smart video solutions offer unique advantages in this area, generating alerts in the event of customers leaving the store with products from the store, without having made a payment.
This is particularly valuable in semi-attended and unattended retail environments, where the majority of customers use self-checkout terminals to pay for their products before leaving the store.

Hikvision announces partnership with Evercam to drive efficiency for construction projects
Hikvision announces a collaboration with Evercam, a construction time-lapse and project management software developer, to provide a joint solution that can help construction companies optimize performance and minimize risk on their large projects.

Evercam software gives construction managers an insight of what is actually happening on project sites, at any time. They can see how a project is progressing, providing crucial information to help them manage the project. For example, they can see how much earth has been removed, or if a delivery has been made, for themselves. They can also see how construction is progressing and, in general, what status the building project has reached.
The software uses Hikvision AIoT cameras and NVRs because they provide very high-resolution footages to capture what happens on site, like the 4K AcuSense Strobe Light and Audible Warning Varifocal Camera that is ideal for the Evercam solution. The solution also makes use of the AI features in the cameras, such as ANPR (license-plate recognition) and people counting.
Evercam integrates information from video feeds into its ‘4D BIM plan’, a 3D CAD plan for a construction project that includes a timeline and key milestones. This gives a clear view of how the project is advancing compared to the delivery schedule.
“We see the construction industry becoming more and more digitalized, which is a great opportunity for our partnership with Hikvision”, says Marco Herbst, Evercam’s CEO. “Because Hikvision has a large range of products, we are able to continue expanding our capabilities quickly. Hikvision is also driving innovation in the intelligent camera space, and we are excited to incorporate even higher-resolution, smarter cameras with even more AI features in our solution in the future.”
“Now part of the Hikvision Technology Partner Program, Evercam is working with a large range of Hikvision products incorporated into its solution for construction companies worldwide”, says Adler Wu, Global Technology Partner Alliance Manager at Hikvision. “This is a good practical example of how Hikvision innovation can be a key component in AIOT solutions that provide real value in high stakes industries, such as construction.”
