As I prepare to celebrate this, my fifth Christmas with the school; it is with great pride that I reflect on the tremendous trajectory that Campaign 2015 – 2020 centre of excellence for performing and visual arts continues to forge.
Mr. Oliver A. Jackson Hutt Director of Development
We stride ever forwards, and this past year at some pace it must be said! We are united in our vision: to create a facility which will strengthen the connection of the school to the whole Tayside region; and contribute to the cultural renaissance of the city through the enduring power of interdisciplinary Arts education. Mr. Stewart Murdoch, Founding Trustee and Managing Director of Leisure, Culture and Communities, Dundee City Council recently remarked of the project: ‘What I find really exciting about the potential that this development offers is to compliment a city which is using culture as a key instrument of its future: culture led regeneration. Facilities are at the core of that, if you don’t have good facilities, you won’t get good action, and this facility offers a wide range of those interested in the developments of Music and the Arts an excellent opportunity. I’m really thrilled and excited, and I hope it gets the full support of everyone else.’ This clarion call has joined with those of the School’s Board of Directors, the Rector, Chair of the High School of Dundee Foundation, myself, and all supportive colleagues of the school community, to great effect. This year has again enjoyed significant fundraising success: another school record. As our donor roll on pages 68 – 70 shows, we have an ever-growing community of like-minded philanthropists, nearly 400 donors to the campaign now, a number which fills me, and all colleagues involved in fundraising with joy and confidence in our task. Please may I take this opportunity to reiterate my personal thanks to each and every donor to our campaign, you have contributed to a 978% growth in philanthropic donors to the school since the campaign began its quiet phase in 2013 – a truly remarkable achievement! To those who are considering joining this ever-growing and global community of philanthropic donors; we look forward to welcoming you. Now, as ever, we need your help. Fees only cover the School’s recurring expenditure. This transformative project has a scale and scope which is far exceeded by the promise of what this facility will provide. I am a donor to this Campaign, and look to you to stand with me and make your contribution to this exceptional project.
The imaginative idea of a centre of excellence for performing and visual arts has now evolved into an exciting, challenging project for the High School of Dundee. With the purchase of the prominent former General Post Office building, the idea has become an inspirational reality. A reality that will greatly inspire and indeed enhance the lives of not only generations of pupils, but also generations of citizens of the City of Discovery. Like any progressive institution, the fabric of the High School is changing, but at its heart it remains true to its core values. In order to finance this centre of excellence, Campaign 2015 – 2020 was launched both in London and Dundee in the summer of 2015 to give all constituencies within the global High School community an opportunity to invest in this aspirational and transformative project. As a donor myself, I respectfully ask you to join me in giving, so that this unique, innovative resource can be created. Your donation, along with mine, will be a truly amazing gift to future generations. Let us make an idea, a vision, become an everlasting reality!
