MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN DR. DANIEL HALL, Dean of the Earl N. Phillips School of Business, is an Associate Professor of economics, previously serving as Chair of the Department of Economics. He earned his B.S. in economics at Georgia State College & State University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics at George State University. Dr. Hall has taught microeconomics and environmental economics, and he was instrumental in bringing data analytics to the business school with the addition of Business Data Visualization with Tableau, Business Analytics with SQL, and the course Business Analytics Consulting Project.

The Earl N. Phillips School of Business (PSB) is a vibrant business school with more than 1,300 students. Our mission is simple, “to prepare our students to become tomorrow’s business professionals.” It keeps us focused on our core goal and competency — adding value to our students. This means helping students discover the many career avenues and opportunities available to them, differentiate themselves with unique skills and talents and then choose the directions in which they would like to go. We teach our students to develop a plan to hone both hard skills and soft skills as they proceed through the career exploration process. We have a firm belief in early career exploration. Career-related activities are integrated at all levels, from freshmen to senior classes. Sophomore level initiatives focus on self-awareness, including an emphasis on the strengths of the student. A growth mindset is foundational to discovering career pathway options. We encourage students to determine and develop the specific hard skills necessary to differentiate themselves in the marketplace. Concurrently, the advancement of their soft skills is equally critical. In conversations I have with members of the business community about what they look for in new hires, the focus tends to be on soft skills. Many soft skills will be developed through memberships in student organizations. Involvement in student organizations is not only valuable and gratifying but also a great way to develop lifelong friendships and potential future business colleagues or partners. The Earl N. Phillips School of Business offers and encourages students to find clubs that suit their interests. These include the Entrepreneurship Club, the Professional Selling Club, the American Marketing Association Club, the Economics Association, the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, the Floyd T. Craven Investment Club, the Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society, the National Retail Federation, the Real Estate Club, the Social Media Marketing Club and the Sigma Nu Tau Entrepreneurship Honor Society. We encourage students to participate in as many internships as possible. We are fortunate to be located in the Furniture Capital of the World, the City of High Point. Our region, known as the Piedmont Triad, has a population of over one million people. Numerous companies have a large presence here including Ashley Furniture, Bank of America, Truist, Daimler Buses of North America, DT, EY, FedEx, HanesBrands, Honda Aircraft Company, KPMG, Lincoln Financial Group, Old Dominion Freight Lines, Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, PwC, Qorvo and Volvo. In addition to internships, the student experience is enhanced through our business relationships with activities such as mentoring sessions, speaker events, field trips, sales role-plays, experiential learning assignments, business community projects and a variety of career-related events. Our mission, focus and satisfaction are directly tied to the success of our students and alumni. The faculty and staff of the Earl N. Phillips School of Business are ready to assist you as you pursue your business career.
