Welcome To an elevation celebration

I

is all about the deep sensual pleasures that we’ve jammed into this weekend, Highlands gets something out of it as well.

If you’re a HF&W veteran, please be assured that we’ve kept all the things that have made this little celebration one of the most sought-after culinary tickets in the Southeast, plus we’ve sweetened the lineup just a bit to enhance that unmistakable concierge experience.

For instance, we’re helping to fund the Louis Osteen Legacy Scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America – giving preference to aspiring students from the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau – which helps students learn the intricacies of culinary techniques and secrets of managing a busy kitchen.

f this is your first time on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau, please relax and enjoy the full measure of the delights offered within these few days.

You’d be forgiven for wondering how such a small town (there are 1,014 of us year-round) can stage a Food & Wine Festival that not only attracts regional gourmands, but foodies from across the country. We think part of the equation lies in the ephemeral, undeniable spirit that infuses the Plateau. While you’re here, open your heart and your mind and your eyes and see if you can sense what we’re talking about. And, of course, set your palate free and loosen your belt (and slip on your dancing shoes), because that’s the best way to discover the Highlands Experience.

So if, by chance, you’re feeling the slightest, slightest, twinge of guilt when your willpower dissolves as that last morsel of dessert touches your tongue or that last sip of wine seduces your palate, just tell yourself that your ironclad commitment to the success of the Festival ensures that a new generation of kitchen wizards will be raised, some of whom will no doubt be dazzling you at future festivals. Enjoy the Celebration and Thanks for Everything, Highlands Festivals, Inc

And though we’ll swear that this event

those techniques to Southern cuisine. In addition, Louis loved guiding those working in his restaurants and coming up in the restaurant scene.

But like an heirloom recipe, there’s more goodness in the mix, beyond the exquisite dishes and selected vintages.

Highlands Food & Wine is actively raising funds for this scholarship. Please consider donating and helping the next generation of great chefs follow in Louis’ footsteps.

In partnership with the Culinary Institute of America, Highlands Food & Wine has established the Louis Osteen Legacy Scholarship. His influential work at the Pawley’s Island Inn and later at the Charleston Grill was the foundation of the restaurant scene in Charleston and throughout the South. While Louis had no formal culinary training, he was very connected to French cooking and applied
