Newsletter School News (Yet) another busy week in the Geography Department! Fieldwork in Lumsdale Woods Wow – where does the time go? Our year 9 students have been conducting an investigation into seasonality in British deciduous woodland; we are very grateful that The Arkwright Society have allowed us to access Lumsdale Woods this year. The students conducted a preliminary visit in late summer and then another in the autumn, where they were investigating the variety of species of trees and other wildlife. Our winter visit should have occurred during lockdown so instead our amazing students visited their own local woodland to collect their data. This week we have returned for a ‘spring visit’, hoping to see spring flowers in abundance and we were not disappointed.
On this visit, we also took measurements to be able to estimate the amount of carbon stored in the woodland.
