“Public input is very important to us, and we hope this project will help create safer roadways and improved quality of life for the citizens of Weslaco,” said Precinct 1 Commissioner David L. Fuentes. “We had a great turnout, heard concerns from citizens, and overall, the hearing was well received by the community,” he continued. “This is the initial first step as we begin to move forward on this project which is expected to possibly begin construction in the next few years once all surveys are completed and funding is secured,” he added.

The proposed Mile 10 N. project will stretch for three miles from Mile 6 W. (Westgate) to FM 1015. In addition to the four lanes, the plan will also include a center turning lane, a shared path for pedestrians and bicyclists, and sidewalks. Part of the road will also be elevated to help deal with flooding.

A special thank you to PFC Mario Ybarra Elementary School, Principal Linda Hernandez, WISD School Board members and Superintendent of Schools, Dino M. Coronado, Ed.D. for allowing us to use the school cafeteria for this public meeting.

In August, Commissioner Fuentes attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Raymondville Drain Phase II Project. The proposed system will provide opportunity for significant flood reduction for areas of Hidalgo County, as well as the City of Raymondville and Willacy County. We will bring you updates as the project moves along.
